View Full Version : First Cat n Fidde run.
Well i did my first cat n fiddle run this evening , for those that know the area, did a left at Bosley cross rd's and joined the cat at the end of the straight.
Thoughts, Hmmm, i can see why peeps like it, but think i need a little more confidence before attempting it again, Miss Daisy would have got there and back quicker :D
Didn't help as i got to the Walker barn area, was two Police cars and a mx5 parked with 2 bikes leaning against a sign, but NO sign of any bikers and 4 old bill walking about.

never done it myself either, but it is on my to-do list.
Doesn't feel as deadly as they make it out to be does it? It's an alright road, but there's often five-o out on a day like this. There's been quite a lot out around macc. over the past two weeks I'd say.
Maybe I'll see the attraction when I'm a little older, wiser, more experienced and well, erm... faster.
Its only deadly when your trying to hard to keep up with someone that you cant...
To many police in marked and unmarked vehicles on that road for my liking, infact most of the Peaks is like that now.

Agree with what G's said. I think it's a fantastic road, I love tight corners.... yet I've only ever done it twice - all cops & nobbers just put me off the idea.

I did it for the first time on the Peeks ride out :)
Even though i loved the road i felt that i was holding people up as i felt that i was going at walking pace :( but instead of trying to go at there pace i let them pass and caught them up at the cafe !!!!
It is a confidence builder and i will be going back :)

Same here. I really should do it again, its only down the road after all
Do the A54 or Whaley bridge road instead
I will see your pig and fiddle and raise you a hartside.
And I'll raise you an A44 (as it's a road near me you know - I know better roads :D).

cat and fiddle is a brilliant road, but as you say theres plenty of coppers around. Your best off going on a week day, not seen many coppers on it then. Park up at the pub, and ask other bikers there if theres any police on it. then do a steady run to make sure for yourself. after that, make your own rules!

well i've ticked it off my to-do list. did it first thing this morn. very quiet except for a few bikes, that i waved on, and 1 police car but i expect there will be more patrolling later. good time to make my maiden voyage, me thinks.

Bloody good road, you were lucky with the coppers gene; especially on a sunny sunday, you must have been there at the crack of dawn! there's a bit of it on the peaks rideout video and you can just about spot a sneaky couple of grey tripod cameras set up.

Was up the C+F on saturday morning and got an absolutely silent run up there. Didn't have to overtake anything the whole way up. It was awesome :D Big cheesy grin at the pub for ages

very sensible - i am the same when out riding, never try to keep up with the faster/better riders. don't see the point in going too fast if i'm not too confident on a road.

Great little road! Although because apparently it's 'the most dangerous road in Britain' the police have a 0% tolerance policy for road users - which is actually enforced from my experience. Also watch out for the sheep, they tend to wonder onto the road

i was in the pub park about 9.30 dave. i was a little dissapointed though cause it seemed only a littlte way further on i was dropping down into buxton. just getting into it aswell, must go the other way next time.

it is a great road thats for sure but is now spoilt by the cops, i only live about 15-20 mins away from it and do most of my riding round derbyshire, there is still plenty of roads around with no police presence, but all the major roads have police patroling them especially weekends/sunny days so it's not worth riding them to quickly..
Anybody tried the Hardknott pass in Cumbria? Very scary piece of road. Gotta be done once though.

The bit after the pubs the best bit IMO , but there's actually a better road (when you take into account the lack of cops) that was also on lissa & binky's peaks rideout. IIRC you come off the cat through the thirty bit to the first trafficlighted junction & turn left go over a dual carriageway-ey road until it starts to get slightly country sidey and there's a left turn at some traffic lights.
Edit: just realised you've probably gone up it the different direction from me, so in your case the bit before the pub is best!
Will be at the Cat and Fiddle on Saturday probably to collect my new car :-)
