Where can I get it?

I've heard some people on the web say Ice cream parlors and Fish Mongers?
I live in Bournemouth, but will be able to order it if necessary. I Need it by next Wednesday for a photo shoot at the very very latest.

Even if anyone has any they'd like to sell to me?

Thank you

Ben.

How about phoning stage electrics or .. darn I cant remember the name right now, they normally have fogg machines and dry ice equipment. If they dont have they will know how to get hold of some.

Anna is right, or you can try some party shops or DJ equipment shops they do them.
I wanted one for Halloween, the do them in London but not sure about anything nearer you.
They can be quite pricey though!

Stage electrics are Bristol based which is why I suggested them, they hire out equipment as well as sell it. White light was the other company I couldnt think of earlier but they are more London based.

They are both very helpful companies though if you phone them they will be able to help one way or another.

I am probably wrong, but I thought for proper dry ice you needed some sort of licence.

Used Ellis & Everard last century for a gig in York, but expect H & S brigade have put a stop to that sort of nonsense so paiste1 is probobly right.

Maybe something like the http://www.thestage.co.uk/

or mandy.com off the top of my head.

Or for really local, call the local threata or the college there one of them should know. Is there not a local FX company?

Thanks for your help guys, I think the best and easiest thing to do will be get a smoke machine. A cheap one from eBay or something. Thanks anywho.

I'm not sure dry ice pellets will suffice will they? We buy dry ice pellets in from Green gases http://www.green-gases.com/ for shipment at -70 degrees of our biological materials. These pellets do kind of smoke a little bit, but they don't really spread lots of smoke over the floor like in a photo shoot, I think films etc use special dry ice machines, that are a bit different. Anyway, if you want the pellets, they should cost about £5-£10 for a 10kg bag, but the delivery charge is a lot more.

Oh yeah, and its cold, watch out ;)

Dont forget if you do this you will still have to buy the smoke fluid. Hiring might still work out cheaper for you.

The effect from smoke is very different to dry ice, lighting on smoke bounces straight off and acts as a curtain.

Companies like Martin ( the amp people) may hire them to you ( or find a freindley DJ)

It all depends on the effect you want.

If you want a floor or cascade of smoke then dry ice is the way to go. Simplest solution is to buy/steal/borrow a tea urn. Fill it about half full and set it on the lowest setting until the water is warm. Then get a mate (in thick gloves) to chuck in handfuls of dry ice pellets from time to time while you shoot.

If you want clouds of mist you'll probably want to hire a professional smoke machine. These convert oil into clouds of ultra-fine droplets producing puffs of smoke. Best bet is usually a disco hire company. Have a google for 'smoke machine hire'.

Just my thoughts,

Keith.
