I have been given a go kart rolling chassis FOC which is brilliant as i was looking to buy one as a project for tinkering.:)
Pics to follow as i am gonna keep a picture record of the various stages of build.
My bro in law gave it me along with a cg125 engine which was running when it went in his shed years ago, but a few bits were stripped off it.
On the crankcase it says CG125E which when i searched it came up as an '84 engine.
Anyway, its got good compression, but no spark.:(
The wiring looks a bit heath robinson but without a haynes manaul its hard to see if the problem is bad wiring or points, condensor, spark plug etc etc.
I found a later one on flea bay which has electric start and is a runner which the guy has offered to me for £80.
My question, does any orger have knowledge of these engines, more specifically the electrical side of things which they can pass on to me or is it just worth buying this other engine and selling the other.

Thanks
Phil

I had a CG, but it was bomb proof. It's such a simple engine that its probably electrical.

Its got points, so I'd check the gap and the opening time. Change the plug, it could be that simple

Sorry I can't help any more

I actually think its the flywheel contacts or something there as it was quite rusty, when i popped a meter on the system it was getting upto around 3v ac when i kicked it over, so something is happening.

Depending on exact age/model it could have a coil and battery system with points, or a flywheel magneto and points or a flywheel magneto and CDI system.

Try to establish what you have first and we can discuss further.

I think its an '84 engine, i think its a flywheel magneto, it certainly doesnt have a cdi system.
On the flywheel it has 4 spaced magnets with matching coil pick ups on the stator plate (?).
I did notice on the inside of the flywheel it has two sprung contactors which open and close, one of them has a thin contact on the end of the arm, which rubs and contacts with outside of the inside hub, the other looks like its missing.
Im not an expert but i think this could be some of it.
Thanks for any input
