Slight de-rail, sorry..... my ex is letting my 7 year old play halo and i have issues with this. Unfortunately i cant get a copy to ckeck it out for myself but was wondering how violent/ graphic it is. If you had a 7 year old would you be happy for them to play?? Appreciate you opinions, tia x
Yes. Bit of blood and violence but its 'fantasy' enough for it to be okay for a kid imo.
however there is some light swearing in it so how strict you are on that depends on if its suitable for them to play.

There (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixQ-TEei_VI)'s some gameplay, its not what I would call a violent or graphic came, just a cartoon as far as im concerned. Take a look at a few videos on the youtubes and make a decision your self. My 6 year old brother plays it with me some timeswell when I used to play it.

I think tbh it depends on if you're happy with him playing third person shooter but tbh I found the flood creepy and IMO they could give a 7yo nighmares if he got that far.
Would I let my 7yo play it? Ask me in 7.5 years for a definite answer but now I'd say no.

Thanks davido. Not worried about swearing, i'm sure he probably hears worse on the playground. What worries me is his desire to kill/maim/destroy/blow up everything and everyone and the fact that his dad positively encourages it. His 3 year old brother now imitates his every move so i've got two of them at it. I know they're boys and boys play like that but i don't want to the mother of the kid on tv whos just taken a gun to school. I'm sure i'm probably over-reacting cos he's actually a very caring, sensitive boy, but these games are really bringing out the worst in him.
Once again, sorry for de-rail.
wouldnt worry about it kelly halo isn't that violent just don't let him near gear's of war now that is very violent.

Might be looking for a -360 soon, any ideas? (PC too much messing around for same games I think)
yc do yourself a favour and get a ps3 the game's coming are way better.

Thanks Druid. It's a really difficult one. He spends a lot of time at his dads and i've even had my solicitor put in writing, amongst other things, that he shouldnt be playing these games. For a while it was ok but his behaviour has noticeably worsened as a result of now having a 16yr old step brother who he plays these games with. I'll happily cause a fuss to stop it happening (and make myself very unpopular with my boys :(), i just wanted to make sure i was justified. Thanks for your opinions guys.

Tell me about it.:(
Although like you said boys will be boys.
looking back now only being 18 many of the games i played i never fully understood so didnt think the violence that serious, just lets kill baddies and the ugly aliens only difference is now it looks better than it did.
I shouldnt be to worried

yc get a 360 the PS4's suck IMO if you want to watch films and nothing else get a PS3 but if your after games especially with a real online system get a 360 no difference in graphics and the 360 has the better games not the PS3 and if you get the yellow light of death you have the 1 year warranty and thats it but you buy microsoft and get the RROD you have a 3 year warranty
BBadger
30-09-09, 07:39 PM
New Xbox's dont really get RROD...smaller better chips that produce less heat which was the issue with lead free solder becoming birttle and blah blah blah boreds bend connections dont work it goes bang.
Get an arcade if you want....need to buy harddrive seperatly but has hdmi port and normaly comes with 1 or 2 free games (pc world)

I love the first couple of halos, only real reason for me to buy -360 would be for COD4 and halo series.

GOW is fun aswell.
i have both wouldnt say i prefer the ps3 i like both but you cant deny the game's are really drying up for xbox 360 oh yeah and gow rule's.
@Kelly
So long as your kid knows the difference between reality and what happens on the box (TV, Film, Game or other) then it shouldn't be an issue. I remember watching Predator 2, Bloodsport, Cobra, Judge Dredd etc when I was about 6...so far I've not gone on a killing spree! I don't have kids (far from having any) but I reckon so long as you ensure the kids know the difference between reality and fantasy, the level of violence shouldn't really matter...

One of those things, I was brought up playing games the proper way with keyboard only on doom and duke nukem. Then counterstrike with mouse + keyboard. Consoles suck, but I can't be arsed spending on a properly decent PC. And the xBox pad is only one that works properly, I can't use a PSx pad for toffee on a driving game, let alone a shooter!

Can get alright spec for around £300-400 these days
obviously no monitor or speakers but that should play most things.

What a load of **** , in what way are they going to be WAY better , there is a ruckload of games on the way , on a like-for-like basis I see no MAJOR difference in games on either system despite higher res and stuff being touted about . Live is a major factor for me with games and the PS3 does not even touch the 360 for playing games with my buddies and the good times I have had doing that ,
ODST is ok and if you like to go for achievements like I do then it will keep you entertained for a bit longer , Firefight is good fun with a mate online , the good thing about Firefight is that you play with friends and not overly-gobby little sh1tehawks who should be doing their homework instead of trash talking to you .

Serious question.....if you were to take something like COD on both XBox and PS3, is there any difference between the two in actual multiplayer gameplay? I know that the XBox has a better online community function etc but I was just wandering???
Only asking as most XBox users say "Online is soooooo much better" but in terms of gameplay, what are the actual differences. For me personally, I'm not fussed about chatting to mates and comparing stats etc.....just want to have fun blasting as many people away as possible.
On the one side, love my PS3, prefer the controller as having played PS1 & 2 for years, it feels similar (whereas the Xbox felt weird) and also love the Blueray. However, I really do wish I could get ODST on it as love the Halo games.

Forza 3 for racing duties , Left for Dead 2 , Dead Rising 2 , Bioshock 2 , Battlefield bad Company 2 , Army of Two ..... need I go on with the amount of decent games that are quite imminent , so take your condescending attitude and cram it . This thread was about ODST not some misguided drivel .

LMAO bluewolf!
My feelings;
Halo 1 great game. Long single player that you enjoy and good multiplayer.
Halo 2 better multiplayer but single player of about 5 hours!? Sigh
Halo 3 Worse multiplayer, worse singleplayer, and about 3 hours long, if you fall to sleep for an hour half way through.
Halo 3 ODST prediction. Repetitive, dull, short.
Depends what you call a good pc.

Indeed.
Another great thing about the PC over the 360 (especially) is that maps dont cost anything. It costs ~£20 for 9 maps for COD WAW. Shocking imo! :(
I think ill waste my money on another game tbh

Give me specs for a processor, MB, RAM and a GFX card. And a pricelist, cases and stuff I've got floating about.
i spent way over £400 to get a decent spec pc phenom 2 3.0ghz 4gb 1066mhz ram mobo which was £80 odd quid £150 ati 4870 gfx card i think it's outdated already though haha.

4870 isnt the newest on the market but there wont be a game out in the near future that will test it. The thing now is that the Consoles are holding back game evolution because companies now make the game so that a console can run it then just port it to PC... :(
Still a PC will look better due to higher res and better textures. :smt047

consoles seem to last abit longer while still looking good enough for me ( cheaper than a good pc too).
Back to odst
had it just over a week now and it is boring as every mission i can just run through.
I am however loving the halo3 multiplayer disc.

Have you completed the Game on Legendary status yet ?
have you got most of the Achievements for the game , that will keep you busy for a few days .
I have completed every Halo game on Legendary and it becomes quite a lot tougher on the later sections .

Thats it buy a computer and upgrade when you think you need to. I got 2 computers and one is 4 years old and it can still play any PC game on high settings and 1680x1050 resolution... Why upgrade?
My other one is about 2 years old and can do the same, but to be fair it is a little faster and gets better frame rates.
Thats the problem with pc, the moment you buy the latest bit of kit....its already out of date!

The difference is, PC's have the cutting edge tech, so its always evolving. If you want to stay with the cutting edge you need to pay money. (same with bikes for example... Would you upgrade from a 07 blade to a 08 for the tiny performance increase?) If you dont stay with the cutting edge and buy mid range stuff then you can do 95% of the same thing for a fraction of the cost.
Consoles... they are out of date before they even hit the market. The GFX in the XBOX are 3 generations old, and were the bottom end of that generation too. The PS3's is the same generation but not even as powerful as the Xbox 360! :(
As well, you need a PC/laptop to come on here (use the internet, word processing etc etc). My point is why not spend £200 more on the PC/laptop you kinda have to have and make it do everything? At least then you get cheaper games (usually by about £10!) and no Xbox live to put up with. (rip off prices, its obscene!)
I have both PC and Xbox 360 and use both but I still think the PC is the better format.
Right, ill let you all get back to your Halo talk.
Cheers.

Complete off topic, but does anyone know how the demand for computer performance compares for running FEA and CFD programs compared to games?

Im not 100% sure on what exactly they are, if they are anything like CAD then it will be more memory intensive in both Graphics memory and RAM memory and quite Graphics power intense with the models you use that need crunching (GFX cards are better than CPU's at that sort of thing!). CPU tends to get away with it on those. You have to load a lot of stuff for models etc. Either of the two spec's I got up there would be fine but obviously the more expensive would work better.
i do however think the quad core's are worth the extra if your gonna be running multiple program's.

Hmmm. Maybe, but you lose Speed (*EDIT* asin for the same price a quad will be slower in MHz than a Dual), so tbh I dont think it would make that much difference. I got a Quad and a dual both 2.4GHz and I honestly cant tell the difference at all. I dont often test them though I guess.
try running a lot of stuff at once i only have experience with the phenom 2 but it's truly awesome what it'll let you run simultaneously.
