How does he get the spring off the side stand for his Bandit?

Sorry it's a bandit.

Yes, we are probably special but it's not helping that's it's all gunged up with crap and looks like it's never seen bike cleaner. He wanted me to ask the internet, so here I am.

Thanks :(

Put the stand down and put some coins between the coils of the extended spring.

Then slowly retract the stand and the spring will remain extended because of the coins. You should then be able to remove the spring.

To re install hook spring onto stand, fully extend stand and remove the coins.

Of course this works as long as it isn't a double spring jobbie (Yes Honda I'm looking at you).

I've got a special screw driver[1] I bent the tip round on for things like this.

Name that part!!

It's the thing that is meant to release the bandit seat but it's borked. No idea what it's called so can't even google.

I just take the bolt out and pull on the stand which you can hold with both hands, but i do like that idea with the coins...

Seat Lock Set

You'll probably find it on the link for the seat for whatever model you/he rides.

Seat Lock Set
As you need your key would only way to get matching one be direct from suzuki?

MattCollins

Maybe. Suzuki should be able to do a lock for your keys, but you never know.
If your lock tumbler isn't AFU then you could hand a SH replacement plus your lock to a competent locksmith (not one of those 5min key cutters / shoe repairers) to have the tumbler serviced and changed over. Otherwise put up with an odd key.

thanks, think we'd be OK with odd key if it saves money but will ask dealer...

(what does AFU stand for?!)

All I can find it a seat lock with an ignition and fuel cap too here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SUZUKI-GSF600-BANDIT-LOCK-SET-IGN-SEAT-FUEL-CAP-1998_W0QQitemZ170383043719QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Mo torcycle_Parts?hash=item27ab9eec87&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Surely they can't be that rare?

EDIT: found a few more on the bay all used, none new?

Put yours up on eBay to make up the difference.
