Yeah but not as enjoyable, i cant stand the constant wiping of the visor and lack of vision, the decreased grip, shall i go on ;)

Anybody who says they like riding in the rain, lies :)

Oh you mean the finer control you need and ability to use the grip that is available, now I find that great fun, after all it's a skill I practise a lot and something I pride myself on, shall I go on.......;)

I'm aiming to set off really early (sunrise 4.45) and make a days riding of it, come rain or shine, it's riding and I enjoy that, from a 183 mile direct route, I'll make it about 350-400, to be honest the ride down has become an indulgent treat for me for the last few years.

Cheers Mark.

I enjoy riding in the rain for those reasons too. The only thing I openly dislike is that it dirties the bike, but you can't have it all ways :D

See, thats where we differ, you have skill i dont, hence my fair weather preference ;)
If i done 400 miles in one day, my shoulder would ache for a week after, i would stop enjoying it not long after 200 miles tbh.

i can see how riding in the wet increases rider skill and feel for your bike and the road but i too cant get motivated when its ****ing down :( it just turns my ride out miserable.

I dont mind the wet if I'm properly geared (and hence stay mostly dry) but I cant stand the cold.

I agree, just makes me miserable, but it does give me something to moan about which is a bonus.

Yay, woke up feel loads better today. Must be the power of the Org. Booked Thursday off work so I have plenty of time to pack the panniers that I'm going to put on Mr LPH's bike - don't want any cumbersome luggage slowing me down and he's got the bigger bike.

Whooohooo glad you are feeling better x

Wired up my autocom so I can listen to my music if I fancy it too.
Hmm hope you dont set it to the same channel as Mr VT and I .... I shall say no more!:smt054:smt007 :smt053

Its way to early to trust the long range forecasts and way to much effort has been put in to make this happen just for us to bail out now because the forecast says its gonna rain at the weekend.

Lets be sensible about this, wait till Thursday night / Friday morning before you make your final decision.
Funny this. The last time i went to Hay on Wye after work on a firday it peed down for the whole journey, stopping about 5 mins from the campsite and it was dry all weekend, then rainined all the way home! Sods law. I have a 'dry'route to the AR and a 'Wet' route as long as the weather tells me by J21 on the M4 i'll be happy.

Yay, bike if fixed, feeling better than yesterday, elbow aches like hell but I can dose up on painkillers for that. My bike hasn't really been out in the wet before. That's what I own a car for.

I must be a lier

Wet riding is one of the best ways of improving your road skills, hazard perception and learning to ride smoother. With the right tyres on theres not a massive difference in grip levels and with the right gear on not alot of difference in riding when its dry.

Get out and try it otherwise you'll never overcome your fears!!!

When I passed my DAS last year my instructor insisted I got out in the rain as soon as possible, in fact he told me to get out in everything besides snow and ice. I did this and soon overcame concerns about riding in the wet, and rode through the winter

If anything id rather ride in the wet than strong winds. At least in the wet you can see the conditions and adjust your ride accordingly, I hate strong winds because you cant predict the next gust, most unsettling!!

robh539

I don't mind the rain TBH, . I agree riding in the rain is good for honing skills/control.

strong winds definitely not fun, smelly too :)

I was out on my DRZ on saturday just gone and behind 3 guys on gixers for 2 biggish islands, they were holding me (yes me) up, so i can ride in the rain, just prefer not to.

Cant believe what a fuss people are making over it, we all prefer things, so what?

Drew Carey
04-08-10, 05:13 PM
If people don't like riding in the rain, they don't like it. No fuss. Everyone should ride how they want to.....end of.

Yes it can really improve your riding if you can conquer riding comfortably in the rain. But, if peeps don't like it then its their choice.

I doubt anyone mind which preferences you employ, but perhaps the erroneous mass generalization could explain the "fuss" :smt102

And I would venture to suggest Mark that the :) smiley at the end rather clearly implied that his comment was not so much an "erroneous mass generalisation" and more a "tongue in cheek" comment.

Mark i hope you and everyone else realises my comments were made tongue in cheek, i couldnt care less what people do think of me for not liking the rain, each to their own i guess ;)

Stop using big words btw, i get confused :)

Edit, i can see from my earlier post i didnt come across as intended, wasnt intentional .

rictus01
04-08-10, 06:01 PM
yeah you can say anything you like as long as you put a smiley on the end.

if the OP didn't want a "fuss" the comment need not have been made, which is clearly "erroneous" by the replies and "mass generalization" by the "anybody".

and according to that logic the :smt102 smiley shows whether the OP just sits and looks at his bike is of no particular concern anyway, I was more pointing, as he seemed confused by the "fuss" why it might have been caused.:D

You can be 100% confident in the wet, on full wet tyres, knee down like a gibbon...but you still get wet:smt003

Jeez louise, I go away for a few hours to print 200+ leaflets which still aren't finished but I don't care because I'm up drinking with Bill, Dan and Nic and this is what I log on to.

Who cares..you like riding in the rain, great. You don't? Well if you make yourself practise you'll enhance your skills but that's your choice and yours alone.

All I care about right now is we all get to the AR or wherever we're going this weekend safely.

Feel the love organs :-) xxx
