3 in 1 is probably a little thin to be of any use tbh ,i just dirp normal engine oil down it

Engine oil works fine, I reckon perfection would be graphite grease or maybe molybdenum grease mixed with a bit of oil/thinner.
Chain lube maybe too sticky and might carry crap in with it?
Chainlube gets very sticky after it is dispensed. I reckon it would have the opposite to the desired effect.
Different brands are different YMMV.
3 in 1 I reckon is ideal & easier to dispense than engine oil, which would work equally well.
The only other alternative - WD40 - I would avoid as a poor lubricant.
don't use chain lub...
it gets too sticky...
thats me told... in a nice way.
cheers guys.

I use auto trans fluid that is drawn through (until it runs clean) using a vac brake bleeder. There is a bit of faffing around rigging the hose.
I use the plastic funnel and 3-1 overnight drip method. Although some cables have a nylon inner and I'm not sure you're supposed to oil them?

Yep that's the one!
But, mine is on original cables at 40k miles plus, if I'd replaced them when the PTFE wore out then I would have had to spend money. Instead it cost me a free carrier bag, a pipe cleaner and 0.001p worth of engine oil. And you can reuse the carrier bag and pipe cleaner!
