View Full Version : Shakey head

What is the most likely reason that my 990 shakes it's head a bit if I take my hands off the bars during deceleration. It tracks true normally and doesn't do it with just slight pressure on bars, ie. even resting two fingers. Just on deceleration.
Front suspension a bit light (haven't played with it since last ower who was substantially more beefy), poor wheel balance (although don't think it is at any particular speed,....??
Yes, I know its best to keep hands on the bars but I am just wondering.
I think it's because you TAKE YOUR ****ING HANDS OFF THE BARS YOU MUPPET.
hth
Length of the forks?
Steering angles?
Haha - At a guess I'd say it's alignment.
plenty of causes....head bearings..wheel balance, defective tyres inc the rear'...top boxes can cause this too...oh and whats wrong wi riding no hands..im known to do it on long rides to relieve the back muscles..aka sit bolt upright and stretch out''...and mine stays steady :thumleft:

My ZZR used to do it at above 50 mph (only noticeable with no hands). new front tyre sorted it, so it could have been wear or balancing.

Knobbly tyres fitted recently?
I had this with the SV, never got it sorted (crashed it!) but as no-one else has mentioned it, I reckon its wheel balancing. Lift the front wheel and just check to see if the wheel spins straight also, it might be slightly out.

Hello...
Do you have luggage/luggage rack on it?
My BlackBird bars wobble, but only if the luggage rack/luggae is on, take it off and it's fine. SERIOUSLY
Or it could be the wheel balancing? ; )

Not enough I am afraid. The bike was keen, I was less keen.
I tend to ride within my limits

Those reflectors on that "BMX" look like they may put the wheels out of balance, I think you should check this before continuing to ride it, although it could be the turbulence from the tassles causing your issue.

look like they may put the wheels out of balance,
But they were from Touratech.
However I think you may be onto something with this talk of wheel balance.
I am getting a little bit fed up with this but feel the need to indulge people.
Doubt it's wheel balance.
I've found the best technique for combating shakey head is a double-bubble screen and duck down behind it, or ride slower.
Not only balancing...
My bandit does it really bad when the tyres are coming to end of life.
It also does it really bad if i've got the topbox on as it unbalances the bike.
Also if my tyre pressures are too low/too high.
God theres some pedantic doo gooders on here these days.... Removing hands of handlebars is no harder or more dangerous than doing it on a bicycle if the road is safe enough and your not doing it in dangerous conditions.
I bet these people who are moaning will happily do over 70mph though... Thats breaking the law also, but thats ok isn't it..........

Not balancing, not alignment.

Could be balancing though?...
