Today my ride was cut short again when i found a nail in my tire and decided to go home.
This is the second nail in about 800miles.
I went through two d220 (rear) dunlop tires without a puncture, now ive got a stickier option (qualifier) their coming thick and fast. What are your thoughts? Go back to a less sportier tire and get less punctures? out of interest whats your worst puncture ratio you have had to a tire?
Also i have heard a real close rear hugger can stop punctures, has anyone purchased one for this reason?
And lastly how far off centre of the tire does it have to be for it to not get volcanised/profesionally repaired?

So many question so little answers.
My ratio is so far 10,000 miles and no punctures on 4 different tyres.
Do you work in a nail factory? Or are your neighbour having builders in to do some work? Is there a construction site near where you ride your bike? Do you regulary ride in cross hatchings (i.e. lots of filtering?)

haha ye loads questions! but theres plenty of help on here!
that is really good! and im guessing there sporty tires also!
I dont do loads of filtering as i dont commute! i ride around buckinghamshire and hertfordshire, not past constuction sites

Doesn't matter what tyres you get, you will get punctures at some point.
I've had a puncture within 200 miles before now and needed another tyre, also had them where you can get them plugged (someplaces will not plug a Zrated tyres anymore by the way).
You could always try Avons. They have a policy of replacing a tyre within it's first 1mm of use in the event of a punture or damage

Mr Stetchie- my theory is the softer the compound the easier you pick them up!

not true
used to get them in 020's, just got one in a maxxis, never had one in a pilot sport which are softer than either...
it seems dealers wont repair punctures if they think they can get you to buy a new tyre ;)

I use BT45's and I had one in the back about 50 miles after it was put on then one on the front about 2 weeks later luckily the front tyre had a few more miles on it but i still wasn't impressed

Ahh, NOW he sees it.. But..
I still say, if you're going to get them, you're going to get them, I have only ever used sports touring tyres though (and still had my share of punctures) so can't comment on the softer compound ones.
I don't see the point in getting sports tyres unless you're a trackrider and know how to use it (not me then  ).
Sports tourers do have the sticky edges, which is where you need it and I'm presuming that you put a couple of miles in before you start pushing it in which case the middle of the tyres would be nicley warmed up and up to par also, you're a winner all round, tyres that last longer and grip just the same where you need them too

I'd put it down to bad luck then.
As others have said, you are going to get them whether you have a softer or harder tyre. At the end of the day no tyre hard or soft will be able to withstand a nail's sharp end.
All a softer tyre will do it is pick it up and fling it off more than a harder tyre.

What about the rear hugger theory? understand? think it works?

ngafc... but thinking about it
it could work in theory, assuming that the foreign body hasnt been pushed in all the way before it gets to the hugger. there is also the question of wether or not it is firmly inserted before entaglement in the hugger. if there is, the hugger may well suffer as a result.
also the effectiveness may well reduce with greater tyre wear as the distance would increase...

ah ye! not a solution then. How about a big magnet infront of the bike?
