View Full Version : Electrical fault - indicators permanently on
I have a problem with my K4 pointy. I turn the ignition key, can hear the FI coming up, and the bike will start fine but on the dash I have both indicator warning lights solidly on and the high beam warning is on.
When I check the lights, the indicators are on all round and the headlamp is off. I had this before, and assumed it was an alarm condition as my alarm has been troublesome lately but Acumen tell me that it's nothing to do with their alarm as it wouldn't be wired to touch the headlamp, it only affects the fuel pump and ignition apparently, both of which are fine!
Grateful if anyone has an idea of anything I can try before I take it to my garage please!

Good morning.
It sounds like an earthing issue, or maybe water or corrosion on the wiring connecter that goes into the instrument panel. Get the connectors apart & give them a good clean with contact cleaner preferably, & see what happens. It could also be a similar problem with the flasher relay, give the connector similar treatment.
Cheers.
Thanks very much, I'll have a look at the bits you mention

spray the inside of the switches with WD-40 always does the job for me. if that or above doesnt work start checking the wiring loom

Bingo - you got it in one - the connector that feeds the indicators was melting - it appears to be an earth point for basically the front end!

Is that the big block connector under the tank in front of the air box?

There's two such connectors. One is in front of the airbox, the other is on the very front of the nose cone, under the plastic behind the base of the screen.
I know, as the beggar behind the screen shorted on mine, and decided it wanted to melt itself. Easy diagnosis though, put your hand on the base of the screen, is it warm? :)
