Awww, Widepants!
That's a Volvo T5 engine. Didn't know you were a closet traffic cop :smt081
Pete ;)
Very good cars...
But still slower than an Astra VXR, both on the road, and on the track ;)
There are a few remaps that work wonders on them though (as said with all hot hatch turbo cars really).
Mountune (I think) do a nice chip kit for it too that doesn't void your warranty.
Ford do an upgrade package for it, new intercooler, map and air filter, cant remember if they do more, takes it to about 260 - 270 bhp :D
its a ford....enough said...YUK

Words of a wise man, I agree 100%. But it is a very good looking car but no where near fast enough. I would be bored with the power within a day and would probebly find myself spending money tuning it, then a year down the line i would realize i should have just bought something with minimum 280-300 bhp

i love the focus st but there are so many used ones for sale? the only thing i can find out about them is that they are abit thirsty? check the fuel consumption WB.
Wideboy
17-10-09, 09:12 PM
yeah that was going to be one of my points, driven normally but still spiritedly the trip computer said i would get 160 out of £25 which i thought wasn't to bad. the lowest i got was 3mpg whilst flooring it. motorways consumption sat at 80 it was doing 25mpg roughly
trip computers can lie tho

Kwak, my pal had an X reg 1.8 zetec focus and moved to an ST and does a daily commute of 25 miles and she says that fuel consumption is the same, if not better on occasions.

Bloody chavtastic if you ask me. If my boss bought me one of those I'd write it off and demand a normal car as a replacement

no i didnt crash it but it has gone back now, although there was some scuffs on the sump guard but im sure they were there already :-dd
i really liked it, i had the top model but the lower of the top (if that makes sense) so it doesn't have the massive sat nav screen.
model i had, focus ST3 2.5T;
£22000
full leather interior with recaro bucket seats
aircon, heated seats ect
tinted windows
DAB, cd stereo
errrmm....... engine some other stuff bla bla bla you get the idea
really do like this car, not as quick as i thought it would be but still quick all the same, personally think it would be better in RWD or 4WD as i think the power is wasted in on FWD, with TCS off the front simply lights up and you go know where but the power is still there.
looks - i personally really like it, its handsome yet still modest, its crazily stupid how many people don't realise what it is. out of all the idiots the funniest was a dirty chav in a mk4 polo who tried to traffic light gp me which was comical. I really like this as it means you can drive it without looking like a complete c0ck....... plus its unbelievably fun toying with idiots then burning people off.... kind of like a sleeper car, people only ever looked when you revved
fuel economy - not bad IMO, think i got a average of 30mpg at one point, i duno tho as i wasnt really that bothered . 3mpg being the lowest i got but that was through driving like a tw@, motorway sat at 80mph was giving roughly 25-27mpg.... first fill up the computer said i would get 160 miles out of £25 if i drove it like i was which was normal sort of driving with a few odd spurts. Personally i would like to have had it for the week to see what i would have got going to work and back
there are one or to things that annoy me about the car, like the extendible knee supports on the seats, clearly they didn't design them well as for some one of my size they didn't even touch my knee's . USB connection for ipod doesn't work but im told that most fords are like that, it being FWD. the road roar is pretty bad 70+ for that sort of car
all in all i would say its a good car, i could see the fuel economy being a pain if your having a tight month but there isn't really anything major bad about it, visibility has improved over the older models, stereo is pretty chavtastic, handling good, power good, ride comfort good for that type of car, comfy seats, handsome looks and very swanky interior.
would i have one?....... yes, i can say i would be happy with one if i could get my own policy as i cant :smt016
can i have £22000 plz? [-o<

I do like the ST but The RS looks so much more useful. THey had the new RS as the safety car at the NW200 this year. It sounds fugging awsome on full chat.
If your lighting up the fronts all the time your not driving a FWD correctly.
I've had the VXR on track a few times, and the fronts didn't light up. Ok you may get one wheel light up on the inside of a corner, but thats because they dont (nor does the ST) come with a LSD.
Focus RS is a good car, already 380+bhp packages available, but tbh green is just for attention whoares. White is best, then blue, then raver puke green. But its been proven that an ST with aftermarket remap will happily sit on an RS's rear end all the way to 140+ speeds.
4wd would be ok, but then you encour transmission losses, and huge extra weight, and its not meant to be an Evo/Scooby competitor, its a VXR, Megan, Mazda MP3, Civic Type R competitor. Also RWD/4wd means a transmission tunnel, more costs, and less room, and its designed within a budget. £22k seems well over priced, I thought ST's were morelike £18k??? Even a VXR with all the toys isn't £22k so im sure theres an over-quotation there.
PS, fuel economy, i've had the astra down to 6.7mpg at "cough" higher end speeds, so 3mpg is awful, but i've heard that about the volvo lump.
Tuneable engine though, but i'd still take the astra over it ;)
FWD is just wrong - nuff said
BTCC greats would disagree ;) FWD can be fun, its just not as fast as RWD, but far more work required and more skill than bunging a 4x4 round a race track.
Clios are cracking little FWD cars as well. Just shoddy gearboxes, electrics, and, well everything really bar the chassis and engine
I think its a real shame that the world is obsessed with FWD - bring back cars with engines and layouts like the Lotus Sunbeam and the Chevette HS2300 I say ;)
As a side note did anyone see the Gadget Show last week with the Audi R8 experiment - quite scary I thought!
Its down to cost.
Its far cheaper to have a FWD car than to produce a RWD car, which needs more work, more weight, more parts, which equals more costs. FWD is a cheap way of making a car move when why its so common.
