View Full Version : What did you do to your SV at the weekend?
Fitted my new dynojetted carbs with velocity stacks yesterday! One carb has a sticky float I think as its weeping out of the overflow.:( I couldn't get the ******* float bowl screws out as they are made from soft cheese. So I thought i'd go for a ride and see if it sorted itself out. Sun was out and the roads were dry and there was little traffic. Did about 30 miles on little b roads and throughly enjoyed myself. Forgot all about the petrol leak until now. http://forums.sv650.org/images/icons/icon11.gif I'd better check it at lunchtime.
I alos took my front mudguard off to fit my fender extender when I got home. We then had visitors who stayed until quite late and I drank a few lagers etc. Guess what else I forgot, yup to put my mudguard back on. So I rode it today with no mudguard on. Looks kinda cool actually!:D

haha sounds eventful. i keep toying with the idea of fitting a fender extender but never quite get round to doing anything about it. I took my bike out for a play on the moors....was pretty epic, little traffic, sun shining and fast flowing roads.....couldnt really ask for more :D

Went along the road in a squiggly line cos of my new head bearings. Must have looked like a noob.
Nice having it back to being a wee razor in the traffic n' turns.

I stripped and rebuilt my rear caliper which was sticking quite badly.
Also replaced the pads which were almost non existant on one side.
Fitted new HEL stainless bleed screws as well.
Still need to be bedded in but the pedal feel is much firmer and a lot less vague.
Very happy with the results.

Put the wireing in so that it can have a heater where it sleeps and connected all the burgular alarm system up, still doesnt work right though.

Tightened up a faring bolt that had worked loose, then rode into Soho and back. I used my cage for the rest of the weekend but it wasn't as much fun.

Oil and filter, air filter, replaced sidelight bulb, new spark plugs - who's bright idea was it to make the front one so inaccessable, even with the correct tool from the tool kit it was a pain in the bum!! Just aswell we persevered though cos it looks like the one that was in there had been there since the bike was born, 35000 miles ago!!
I have not even seen my SV for some considerable time. For all I know it isn't even where I left it!!!

Rode it on Saturday and then my dad left it sitting out in the rain...it's still there as I can't get it into the garage due to my short legs..... :(
Gave her the once over Sunday morning. Topped up the oil and tyre pressures. Realised my chain really needs adjusting, tis a bit loose.
Took t'other half out for a bimble.

I left mine chained up and under its cover and more or less didnt think about it until this morning when I came to uncover and unlock it and had that little voice in the back of my head "the battery could be dead, you might have to get the train"
no such luck as it fired up like it always does. Trooper!

Took it for new chain & sprockets and also fit a new bolt to the rear pillion peg hanger as I borrowed one from there to hold my foot rest hanger in place after it fell off on the M-way home last week (only noticed when I changed up to 5th and the gear lever kept going North thanks to the footrests pivoting on the one remaining bolt!).
Looked at the GSxR1000 K3 shock that I bought and decided I'd wait before fitting it, looked at the rearsets I bought and decided I didn't have enough time to fit them, then went to Aldi and bought some hex keys and some heat shrink tubing.

I guess from your sig these are Renegade Velocity Stacks? Going from memory here is one longer than the other, in which case which way round did you mount them?

The bike works fine, actually both bikes are working fine lol. The curvy seems to have decided its not quite ready for the bone yard just yet and booked it ideas up.
But I was yabbering on about the alarm, all the wires and connections are correct everywhere apart from in the bell box. A friend of a friend wired it all in originally having said he'd done alarms in the past. Needless to say it didnt work and he blamed the panel. I picked up a new panel a while back and only now have I been able to get round to sorting it all out. So a different friend and I stripped every PIR and Door sensor corrected some of those including a wire which goes no where lol. But we couldnt get to the bell box (too high) other than that we got the system set up but the bell goes off when it should be quiet and vice versus. Need to get my ladders back then I can finish it all off and be all secure. :D

Did an oil and filter change, adjusted and lubricated the chain, and lubricated all the cables, etc. Then removed the battery and put the bike up on stands in the corner of the garage and covered it up.
Whilst I was doing this you could hear the bikes playing on the highway, but I cant get out there because our street has 50 mm of ice on it, which will now be there until next April. So I got my skates and cross country skis out

Slight derail for a bit but...... Check the "hold off" or "trigger" setting on the panel - it may be that you can set it to "go high" or "go low". This sounds like your trouble.

How very quaint :)
Considered cleaning mine on Sunday, instead i took the rear caliper off, checked there wear of the pads and cleaned the pins/bolts caliper up, got a nice shiny gold piston in there now

Exhaust side, quight large ooooh er and it runs through the creases on the tank if you know what I mean. It will need beating, painting and filling, hopefully not in that order! =;

****e, at the bottom near the frame? No hiding that mofo :( if you remove the tank and take it to a decent sprayer who can do the above (unless you can do it yourself) it might not actually be that pricey. You got crash bungs fitted? They're a decent investment, fair enough though may not have saved this one.
Well I took the hugger off of mine at the weekend. Each to their own but I hate huggers. No fond of the hideous chain guard that replaced it either, so that will be trimmed later on.
If it ever stops raining on my one day off a week I;ll rip he hideous rear number plate hanger thing and make up something to replace that.
Gotta pull the tank off too and look at repairing that. Wish it was summer again!

Took the back brake light switch apart to see if I could fix it.
It's shafted! Looks like a very soft bit of plastic on the plunger that holds the contacts apart- the end has snapped off. Tried melting it back on with a soldering iron- to no avail.
So- will be ordering a new one on payday...
Asides from that- chucking some penetrating spray at the bolts on my forks - so Spanner Man can do a lovely (and hopefully not seized bolt bound) job of putting some Hagon springs in. It appears that the tyre fitters managed to snap one of the bolts that lock the axle in place- what is it about tyre fitters and overdoing the bolts?!! Sneaky sods didn't tell me about it either...
I'm very excited about new fork springs though.

On Saturday I cleaned and polished my SV then applied ACF-50 to all the nooks and crannies. Started her up yesterday and I thought the smell of the fumes from the exhaust was pretty nice! lol :)
Today I also refitted my fender extender as it fell off on the way home. :(. Screwed it on now though so it should stay put with any luck!
I changed the oil/filter, topped up the brake fluid, airhosed the airfilter, topped up the scotoiler, checked the spark plugs, looked at it for 30 minutes, checked battery output, checked tyre pressures, cleaned it, polished it, looked at it some more, acf50'd it.....

You sound just like me. I spend five minutes doing a job, then half hour looking at the bike having a cuppa, then carry on. Takes me the best part of the day to change the oil and plugs sometimes! :D
Changed the knackered exhaust gasket between rear header and collecter box. Common failure on SV 1000. What a pain in the rear !! Even had to take off the side stand assembly inc. bracket to get the collector box down.

Does the alarm have a remote? Double check your fuses just in case. Start a thread if you have trouble.
Last night I fitted my new rear tyre, cleaned all the gunk out of the s/a linkage and front sprocket cover (saved so much weight! there was handfulls of gritty dense gunk), cleaned all the ****e out of the clutch worm drive (lost a bearing i the process), regreased it and adjusted the cltuch , fitted my new hot grips controller and did a lazy job of routing the cables, removed the fairings, regreased the foot levers, greased hand lever pivot points and removed a stubborn bit of rubber off my pegs.

it does, the remote functions are 100%, the alarm its self goes off when it should and I was all smiles thinking hehehe that was quite easy. Until I hit the start button and the lights went dim and the engine made no noise. :(
Once i've confirmed the battery isnt to blame I intend to bump my already start thread.

on Saturday, Oil change, chain check and adjusted. Like you Dave cleaned all the gunk from the sprocket cover. also adjusted throttle and lots of re-greasing.
No joy in finding a loose elecy connection yet.
Day off today. Bike seems to be running rich and I suspect its got too bigger main jets in. Checking the dynojet kit it looks like there 138s in there. So if I can getthe mangled carb bowl screws out i'll drop 136s in. Then its caliper clean up time and a general going over for the MOT!

Does sound like power, when I had issues with mine it was down to a fuse but in that case it was as soon as I hit the starter button everything went off (not dim).
That'd be good, I can see mine packing up.
Cant believe the weather! I had to take two days off to look after my daughter who isn't well. So while she's watching Sponge Bob I managed to sort the tank drain out. Rejet the carbs. Clean up front and rear brake calipers and fit a new Pilot to the rear. All ready for the MOT now, well it would be if it worked!
