Can anyone recommend good heated grips for an SV650? From the posts on here, there seem to be some issues with the Oxford ones I was going to get.
Should I just be spending the money on warmer gloves?!
Thanks in advance.
After the initial problem with the controller being bad on my Oxford Sports Hotgrips they've been fantastic. Warm up quickly, and on the 75% setting they're toasty warm in cold conditions. Usually have them on 40% if it's a bit nippy.
To be honest, though, unless you've got a set of gloves that keep the tops of your hands warm you're going to have chilly hands regardless. While the grips will keep your palms warm, that's about it unless you're cruising steadily without braking/changing gear. Get a set of warmer gloves first, then get heated grips if you're still cold afterwards (like me with my poor circulation :))

Daytona grips worked well, I had a set of Oxfords first and had loads of problems with them, dodgy controller, one side going much hotter than the other etc. I've had no problems at all with the Daytona ones yet.

Your hands might still be cold after an hour or so, but you'll get that special warm feeling from shelling out on new bits for you and your bike!

Dinnae ken, hen - they were on the Pan when I bought it, but they're super warm and actually work - unlike the Oxford ones I had on the SV.

Hmmm, the garage wanted £150 for the oxford grips including fitting them (and that's the cheapest of the three quotes I obtained). This seems a lot for fitting but I'm not sure I'm up to wiring them in myself without supervision.
Don't suppose anyone in or around London with some experience of this fancies helping me to fit them for £50.....?

Very very easy to fit ..... although does take a little time ..
Where abouts are you ??
The other option is there is a guide on here somewhere ... search for 'oxford heated grips' and find the fitting guide .... simples

Check out the fitting guide for the Symtec grip heaters below, I think they work out cheaper than the Oxford HotGrips =>

I would prefer symtec grip heaters. I'll be putting them on my next bike when I get it and then shortly after probably change the SV ones if they prove to be good

I have used the old Oxford grips and the DR Bike copies above (manual heat switch) for a good few years. Replaced 1 controller and 1 grip in 4 years bike used most days. The "DR Bike" ones are re-branded old style Oxford ones but cheaper.
Recommended. Toasty and reliable. Ugly but simple and functional. Only ever needed the heat turned up halfway.
Don't fancy the new style ones after reading about there overall performance.
Grips,£100 at a dealers for fitting. But it really is very easy to do yourself. Plenty fitting advice on here.

£25, you say? I just went to buy some on the R&G web site and...
Sub Total: £25.52 VAT: £3.83 Shipping Cost (Based on Standard UK Delivery):£12.00 Total: £41.35
Don't companies realise that advertising one price and then charging over 60% more for vat & postage will put off customers?
I can't see how much jsaccessories.co.uk charge for shipping their grips, as you have to register with them before they'll tell you the shipping cost. F*** that.

Well I did buy other stuff that brought the delivery down proportionaly a good bit, I'm sure you can buy from a dealer also, not sure what the M.U. would be though.

I've got some heated grips that were fitted to my H**** D***v**** winter hack when I bought it. The right hand grip heats up quickly and gets very hot, but the left hand grip takes ages to heat up and is barely warm. I've tested it with a multimeter which reads 13v and 10 ohms, which sounds about right to me. The grips themselves have slightly different patterns on the rubber, which makes me think that one might be a replacement.
Any ideas why one might be toasty and the other luke-warm?

I'm on my fourth set of HG branded Daytona heated grips (I understand they are no longer available from HG, I got lucky with the last ones from their Braintree store). I've had roughly 8 or 9 sets of Daytonas on different bikes of my own over the past 15 years and none of them have been any bother - all have kicked out enough heat to keep my hands warm enough to ride safely in some atrocious weather.
On the other hand, a fair few people have come to me to replace Oxford grips that no longer work or are pitifully lacking in the heat department. Naturally I recommend Daytonas and no-one has been disappointed with them yet
