View Full Version : window's phone
where the hell do you get them havn't seen them in any of the local phone shop's i don't like the iphone's or blackberries so this look's awesome too me if anyone's got one and what network you can get them on it'd be helpfull.
normaly they are made by a company called HTC, rebranded as iMate but all phone companies in the UK usualy brand it as their own models. Note that HTC also makes the current T-Mobile & Vodaphone "google" android phones
Other manufs make them, Nokia, Sony Ericsson, HP and a few others
ie.
T-Mobile MDA
O2 XDA
Voda vxxxx
Orange Mxxxx
etc....

They've been around for years mate.
Orange had them for years now, started off branding them as 'SPV' models but now they are under the name of the company that actually makes them, HTC.
O2 been using them and Vodafone too but not sure what they name them.
Phone shops should do them or try ebay.
I like the look of the new samsung omina 2, but ive been looking some have windows 7.5 and some have a basic operating system.
I have a HTC touch diamond, quite like it, dont use many of the features but my contract runs out soon and im gunna get that simplicity with unlimited web so i can use the internet, messanger and email features on it :p
they any good i really really really don't want an iphone or a blackberry i'll be laughed at.
go over to http://xda-developers.com
loads of info...
Yes, im pleased with mine, typical windows tho, processes like to crash and it tells you

I've had them since 2002, I have a Touch Diamond at the minute but this is the worst one I've had yet.
It unlocks itself all the time and rings/texts people and the battery life is far from great if you use the functions on the phone. Apart from that I love it.
One thing to get used to though is having to turn it off a couple times a day sometimes and every other month I do a hard reset to restore to factory settings or they just run really slow and stop responding but that's to be expected of anything Microsoft. Every one I have had does this but despite all of the above I have not gone back to the average Nokia /Samsung etc
I'm considering getting the Iphone when Orange release it as nearly up for a replacment but we'll see
I have no problems with mine yet, a couple of times ive switched it on and held down a volume button by mistake and it comes up with a Blue/Red/Green screen and i have to take the battery out :( but thats my fault and touch wood its been fine so far as has my Dads HTC, dunno which one he has tho
I am awaiting the Nokia N900 to be released next month. More a mini computer than a smartphone and is pretty powerful. Running a new operating systen based on linux and Nokia gave out 100's of the phones to hackers and software developers so there will be plenty of software soon both free and pay. The phone suits my needs perfectly but wont suits everyones of course as like many things it is not perfect
Looks a real good phone if you run the internet as it can view large size web pages no problem, web browsing and multi tasking are 2 of its big strengths. take a look

Just to be clear, Windows Phone is a mobile phone operating system, not a device.

nop its symbian, very powerfull though
nokia i think had a windows mobile but it did not keep going as they are mainly a symbian house
what's that is that what my 5800 is.
what's that is that what my 5800 is.
yup same, most of it will feal the same, the 5800 is more music based, N97 its the best of the best put together
N97 & N900 look the same, N97 is more mobile phone based with smart os, while N900 is more based as a smartphone with mobile phone added as it lacks many things that the N97 has but its unlikley to be missed by the target that the N900 is trying to attract
so what will i be able to do with the n97 that the 5800 can't do i've noticed you can't rush this phone it's gave me a couple of scare's with losing everything if i rush it and freezing.

it has a full keyboard, slightly larger screen and its touch screen still, better camera, GPS
go out and look at 'N97 vs 5800' reviews
watch out for the new N97 mini soon
oh and the internet's really slow on it.
oh and the internet's really slow on it.
thats probably more to do with provider speed, the 3G/GPRS speeds vary quite a bit between phone companies
could be what's virgin like for tinternet speed's on mobile's.

what language are you writing in?
the ancient and long forgotten leicester dialect.
Have a look at the new google android phones for iphone and windows mobile alternative. After using windows mobile they are good for tomtom and exchange integration. Must admit the web browsing experience is a bit behind the times on windows mobiles. HTC hero or magic android phones might be worth a look. Still undecided which I fancy. ALso co pilot is now avaliable on Android too
the hero look's ok where are they made.

I've got nothing to add to this discussion, but could you please remove and then throw the key on your keyboard that's just to the right of the colon/semicolon which has @ and ' on?
Please.

It's not about grammar. It's about carelessness.
Cant be bothered to sift through 3 pages of grammar criticisms so sorry if this has already been discussed. I got a Vodafone V1415 which is a re-branded S710. It is okay but way behind the current crop of smartphones. On the plus side it was cheap and now it's even cheaper. Can get them on ebay for about £30.

I've got a HTC phone with Windows Mobile 6. It's an utter POS (Windows Mobile, not the phone itself). I'll never buy another Windows phone again. I probably upgrade to an iPhone soon.
Windows Mobile is not generally very highly rated at all, and you'd be far better off with something like a Palm Pre, Android or iPhone.
