View Full Version : Plans for next year...

I was talking with The White Rabbit on the way back yesterday. We were talking about various camping weekends and rideouts etc...
So... with that in mind, has anybody anything / anywhere they' like to next year. I notice that Rich & Caz have been nattering about Porlock. Thats somewhere I'd like to go back to. I enjoyed that weekend, great roads and I thought a great venue. I liked the campsite even if they were a bit keen on the speed limit :D
I think something spring time ish might be nice then with the AR in August, maybe that leaves room for something June / July. Then maybe something August Bank Holiday again and then maybe a season closer such as the Welsh TT again.
I'm keen to do the GM3 next year so I'd like to avoid any date clash with that...
Try and space them out a little, so that leaves time to save up money / budget etc etc.
So chuck your ideas out there and lets see what we can come up with...
Edit - Provided by Pingu65 next years calender is roughly shaping up like this :
Isle of Man - April
?????? - May
GM3 - Scotland - June
?????? - July
AR10 - Wales - 6th August
Porlock - England - August Bank Holiday
Welsh TT - Wales - Sept
I'm happy to do the Porlock weekend/route again, perhaps stop off somewhere better for lunch next time though, as great as Hovis' attraction was I agreed with Quiff that somewhere near the beach or a country pub would have been better.
I thought the campsite was good, and i'd be happy to use it again. Although I felt as if we weren't wanted there, Gaz was staying in the other campsite and the owner was more than happy to have bikers there. I could visit both again closer to the time to see if their views on bikers have changed. Perhaps we'll be welcomed back you never know.

I emailed them when we got back and said thanks for having us, we really enjoyed it and that I hoped we hadnt been a nuisance. I got a very positive reply and was told that we were welcome back any time at all.
I guess it wouldnt hurt to take a look at the other campsite though...

I'm game for weekends away, even longer trips if we can get adequately organised in time...
Porlock was nice, I quite liked the site too even with skeletor high-fiveing us every time we rode through...

Can we create a mini calendar / post that will include the BIG events so we can easily see the spaces it leaves our group.
I was thinking the following are in pipeline
Isle of Man - April
?????? - May
GM3 - Scotland - June
?????? - July
AR10 - Wales - 6th August
Porlock - England - August Bank Holiday
Welsh TT - Wales - Sept
Just a thought to chuck about - I'm not saying don't organise other things but with all things the more the merrier

Aye we can but you've just done it :D
I'll add that to my first post in this thread and then we can use this for chucking ideas about and then sort out something more concrete once we know what we might be doing...

I think my priorities next year are the AR and GM3. If peeps cant make those but want to sort an alternative out on the same weekend or during the same month as those fall, then go for it.

+1 Was a great ride to start the year off with
After talking to fizz at the welsh TT im dead keen to try and make the GM3 aswell. The AR is a forgone conclusion. Would like to do a few more weekends away this year aswell, its nice to go out for a ride then chill without having to travel for hours straight home.

years not out yet!!!
Im up for more weekends away, didnt get to do many this year
Looks good so far.
I think there are two more options to consider:
Isle of White - TLW and I loosely discussed a weekend over there harrassing the webbed toe'd ones.
Eurotrip - I quite fancy a long weekend over there. Not sure about a run down to the Alps (time). Quite like the idea of a Normandy trip to see the D-Day bits and pieces. (Dover - Calais on 2/7/10, rtn 5/7/10 = £37.50 for 2 inc bike atm).
Keen to do Porlock again - great route and the campsite was nice and not too regimented. GM3 would be good too.

I think there was some discussion of a .org trackday, possibly somewhere in the Madlands for maximum convenience. I'd be up for that, if only to learn how an SV should be ridden on the track.
If we can manage a decent number of definites (paid up front) we should try negotiating for either
a) a decent discount
and/or
b) the track to ourselves.

i'm up for the severn circuit again early in the year.
i'm planning a week in early july to go down to the alps
I fancy a day trip up to RAF Cosford (http://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/cosford/index.cfm)and Ironbridge. Cosford museum is free.
A saturday late march, to blow the cobwebs out.
We could meet up with some of the madlanders.
Hi all -
I am up for Porlock again.
Spoke about New forest with a few others - could be a good one for may time. RichT and I went there last May and it was lovely weather.
Euro trip sounds like a great idea Rich - would be good in summer time though or maybe spring bank hols ...;) oh and IOW trip would be nice too

Minehead can be a good night out plenty of places to eat and drink and no more than a 15 minute taxi ride away. I could organise a mini bus depending on numbers to get us all there and back safely, shouldn't cost alot between us all.

Not a bad little route, throw in a pub stop and you're good for a Friday night drink, up late on Saturday to recover but have a good afternoon ride.
I've taken Saxo on it and I think he enjoyed it. I've done it only a couple of times, it's a long way from where I live but it's a good route. Would be happy to lead a resonably paced (read: mostly Legal ish ) ride if we were based from south Lakes

I arranged one last year, as did a couple of others, with varying degrees of success.
Typical discount will be 10% and you will never get a day to yourselves unless you can get 120 people to book (40 in each of the 3 groups). Even the GixerJunkies haven't managed to book out a whole day to themselves yet, and they have a serious amount of track addicts!

Right. We only managed about eighty bikes on the AR, so there's no prospect of getting a hundred of us to the track. Still, a 10% discount and a good bunch of people would be cool.

You just plan a few months in advance and book a hotel. When we did the Eurotours Steve Jelster always sorted that out, no bother. We stayed in Alencon the year I went and went in and out the Alps on daytrips to avoid being loaded up day on day.

As the sun has started to shine - it’s Thread Resurrection time…. (Captain Awesome would be proud of that line)
We have a provisional calendar for this year as follows:
Isle of Man - April
?????? - May
D-Day Raid - Normandy - June (beginning)
GM3 - Scotland - June (end)
?????? - July
AR10 - Wales - 6th August
Porlock - England - August Bank Holiday
Welsh TT - Wales - Sept
There have however been a number of other suggestions including:
Severn Circuit
Invasion of the Valleys
Isle of Wight
Euro Trip
Org Track Day
Lakes Splash
Amsterdam
Portugal
And a couple of non-bike related ideas.
We had a pretty successful year last year that even saw Fizz enjoying some camping – so much so the “tent” was upgraded to the mansion (see below) and this year they have dogs. :D
Some August Bank Holiday Pic’s (See HERE (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=138546&highlight=Porlock)).
So it would seem it’s time to start some further planning. Put your thinking caps on and put any suggestions, info, plans here.
It would be pretty good and better than any other section :D to have at least one weekend planned each month from May until October.
We need some idea's for May, July and April (I suggest). S&WS meet somwhere in the middle at the end of the month? Yeovil...

April / May are going to be tricky for me to fit anything in. I need to keep my training milleage up on the pusher, otherwise I will not be getting round the Tour of Wessex and I really want to do that this year, bit of a personal goal after loosing most of last year to injury related lack of motivation.
I am very short on holiday this year so long weekends / bank holiday weekends is going to work better.
I like the idea of going back to Porlock again though.
I suspect that the Welsh TT, Invasion of the Valley's rideout routes will get covered off by the AR route though so not sure if its worth repeating that area this year ?
