View Full Version : What a night!

So I decided to have a quiet night in...how wrong I was!

My younger brother had gone out with a few friends and was on his way home. The doorbell rang and it was my brothers friend (lets call him Mr B) who started screaming that he had been mugged for his phone and a group of boys now had my brother. I thought "****e" and legged it out the house and down the road without telling Matt where the heck I was going.

My mum then shouted at me and started running after me with no shoes on. "Ive got no weapons, what am I supposed to hit them with?" I yelled to mum. "I dont bl00dy know, ive got no shoes!!" said my mum.

We soon caught up to my brother and his friends. The gang had gone but my brother was really shaken up. So we started to walk back home with him. Matt then joined us after asking a man walking his dogs "whether a woman with no shoes had run past" (lol)

In the meantime, Mr B (the friend) had rung his parents and the mum turned up in her car to find out what the hell had happened. The father then turned up on his scooter and at that exact moment they spotted the gang (4 boys) emerging from the park.

"Quick, get them!!" screamed the mum and she jumped on the back of the scooter yelling "go go go!" - the father then whizzed after them and they dissapeared into the park. I found this rather amusing because the mum is the nicest, calmest person Ive met. She's not someone you think would go chasing after a gang of boys and using every possible swear word under the sun!

After about 10 minutes the parents had collared all 4 of them after chasing after them in the park - 1 of them apparently gave up and just sat on the floor (as you would with a 6ft scottish bloke chasing after you in a leather jacket and helmet lol!)

The police then turned up and put them in the car and came back to my house to see if my brother and his friend were willing to press charges. They're currently downstairs taking a statement.

Can you believe that they stole a £10 mobile and an oyster card (a travel card which has photo ID)

My area never used to be like this, makes you wonder what the world is coming to :( But at least thats 4 idiots off the streets for a bit.

Moral of this story? there isnt one. But I did learn that if a member of my family was being attacked by a group of people (or something), Id definately intervene and try to help. I always thought Id be sensible and call the police and let them deal with it. But once I heard my brother was in trouble I just legged it down the road with no regard for my own safety at all. I guess instinct really does take over

When you find out what the police will meter out as "punishment" you'll realise the moral of the tale is...

Its what the land of today is like I'm afraid maria.
shocking when it happens close to home.

However, you recalled it in a very amusing manner. For some reason I can only imagine the mum and dad on a scooter riding around a dark park on a scooter....like a Benny Hill scene :-)

Had a nightmare 2 weeks ago tonight, sat at PC about 10.45pm just contemplating going to bed and heard the faint sound of windows smashing and then the unmistakable sound of my car alarm. Someone had decided to smash 3 windows on me car and had done the same to 4 others within 1/4 of mile of mine. The police got him and came round for a witness statement at 3am in the morning, followed by the CSI guy at 8am :(

Wow, well done Missy, glad you are ok and your brother is safe and well, if slightly shaken up. Poor lad. I admire your courage and think that Matt should give you the biggest hug ever.

Not sure I am the sort to go running after gangs in dark places, that is what the Police are for, but then I am a softy really.

also, when it happens like this to a family member, no matter what wrong has been done, anybody with an ounce of morals goes out and fends for them. I know I do. I may have a big gob, but I'm like a little flower inside, and shake considerably at confrontation.

I can imagine your heart was thumping like nothing else. Once you've started theres no stopping you. I've tackled gangs of teenagers on more than one occasion on my street, and cleared them off, but only after going in have I wondered what would happen next....always expect a brick through the window.
The last lot I chased were three 18 yr olds(ish) that had come in my back garden, and were staring through my kitchen window. I live in the middle house and they'd jumped over two gates to get in! My dogs had gone out for a walk and I was in on my own.
I went into 'protect my bikes at all cost mode' and like you ran out in the street in my socks chasing them.
I now have an air pistol in my kitchen cupboard, because they frightened me to death. Dunoo what I'd do with it like, I supose I could throw it at em!

Wow! Maria- fair play for charging out there. What an amazing thing to find that you'll do for your family (and no doubt Matt!).

Glad you got them all with no serious nastiness- I'm sure you're all well shaken up (adrenaline really does the job, doesn't it?!- well draining though), but you got a fantastic result out of it so a very positive outcome in all ways!

Considering in these situations these days- it either turns extremely nasty, or the culprits disappear and never get caught by the fuzz- you've got a lot of great stuff to walk away with, I'm well impressed.

The moral of the tale REALLY is ...
The parents on the scooter will probably be done for riding in the park & get a far harsher punishment than the chavs.
Who Me ? cynical ?

BRave girl Maria! Bet you didn't even stop to think of the consequences did you? I probably wouldn't have either.

Your poor brother though, is he ok?

Little ruddy scrotes, as maria and her mum ran out in their socks i went and found my trainers and grabbed my bike gloves incase I did need to get a bit heavy handed. I realise now that, unlike when I was younger and less confrontational, I am now ready to fight if I need to

One thing that crossed my mind before I went out was: what could these guys have on them? A knife? There is lots of knife crime around nowadays, I'd at least want my trainers on so I could run away in an effective manner  (:p @ maria)

I'd have bloody killed 'em if I got 'em

grrrr

I thought about this aswell and considered the same thing...but the coppers were good people, and I think they'll turn a blind eye to that, given the parents were protecting their (and other peoples) kids!

could have worked out very differently.

Indeed, luckily it didnt. Hopefully they (the gang) will realise that they cant go around bullying and robbing anyone they like, especially people who look like they wont harm a fly ;). Bet they got a right shock having a maths teacher running after them

Yeah! I was running thinking "what am I doing? What am I even going to do!" I like your air pistol idea :smt043

Yeah hes ok, just a bit scared at the prospect of pressing charges. Its a grown up thing for a 14 year old! But someone has to take a stand sometime so hopefully the idiots will get locked up (they apparently have a string of convictions behind them and are awaiting a few court appearances)

Good effort all round

Hope your brother goes though with it all. He can get help and advice for the court business don't let him worry over it too much.

Its disapointing when the bad guys are caught and the Victim/witness retract their statement for what ever reason.

Lets the bad guys off and makes the police look weak.

Bloody scum, glad it worked out though.

Lol, however if they had of had a blade the leather gloves would have come in useful in the disarming/ protecting yourself scenario.

Experienced the same sort of decision myself and when the "phit hits the fan" the tendency is to just react rather than do the correct thing. Good outcome hopefully and more people like yourself is what this sinking ship of a country needs.
