I've just got a letter from the DVLA saying 'we'll give you 5 days to buy your new tax disc'......my tax disk doesn't expire for another 8

What do you mean!! Do you think the police will ticket me if they notice?! It's not my fault!!

I'd guess they'd be understanding, only way to be sure is to get the DVLA to sort it though...
That said my vehicles are still registered to 'Miss David 20046'
....I notified them about the op ages ago

I just got a £55 fine from the DVLA because I hadnt notified them of scrappage of my old curvy.
The last time I saw it, it was in 2 pieces being taken away by a salvage lorry and the v5 had to be sent off to the insurance company before they would pay out.
I got a letter saying that someone had applied for the v5 and 2 days later the fine for "failure to notify of scrappage".
I have to write to them and tell them I had to send off the v5 to the insurance company as they wont do it over the phone.
The woman at the DVLA told me it happens all the time!

From what knows these things, you will be fine. As long as the registration is correct and the disc number is clear then I see no reason for anyone to question it.
And Police will PNC you're vehicle which clearly shows whether you have a valid excise licence.
I never used to display mine in London, I carried it with me either under the seat or in my wallet. I knew that police can check on their system that the vehicle is taxed and that is all that matters. I know that if you are pulled and you give them reason then not displaying a tax disc can get you a fine etc, but to be honest they have better things to do.
A polite smile goes a long way.

Same as Anna, i have never displayed a tax disc on my bike in 6yrs, never had a ticket for it.
Been asked by cops to show it and pulled it out my wallet. When they wanna know why its not on the bike i just tell em i get sick of having to apply for new ones when they get nicked off the bike.
Easy.

I don't put mine on the bike either - I say it's because I don't want it to get nicked, but really it's cos I'm lazy and can't be bothered fiddling with the dirtiest part of the bike to put the new one on.
It's worked so far, and both times I've been asked they haven't picked up on the flaw in my story, i.e. that the original disc from 3 years ago is still on the bike. But then us girls can get anyway with anything... ;)
