Looks like they are now going to give the power (and a share of the loot) to freeze and seize assets to non police bodies including councils and civilian investigators...nice...
I had a nightmare a few years back when a ticket inspector who I guess must of been on commision decided to send me to court because the driver (and the driver admitted this) pushed the wrong button and printed me out the wrong ticket (who actually reads them? I don't!).
I'm still 3 years away from the end of my 10 year criminal record for that one! a record that almost lost me my first job if it wasn't for my manager finding it so funny he gave me an 11th hour repreive!, not to mention making an 18yr old pay a £600 fine for it!.
Under these new laws if I decide to fight it not only can I go through this sort of nightmare, and lets face it if they take you all the way to court when the drivers already admitted it was his mistake what's to stop them when they could freeze my bank assests and send round the repo men? Niiiice!
I know this isn't what they "intend" the extention for so of course it won't be used for that! nothing at all like the Terrorism laws
Someone get me the **** out of here!
Please, please, please don't get me going on new laws and their Draconian implementation by armies of 'jobsworths'.
Aw alright then.
I remember a few years before Tony (President of Europe) Blair left office there was an article in the paper about the 119 new laws since labour came to power. And there have been plenty more since then. Many of which have little to do with 'natural' justice, the corner stone of a fair and just society.
And as for the abuse of the detention of ordinary citizens, under the Terror laws, and I do mean ordinary Joe Public, not real terrorists.
A great country totally screwed by a bunch of self seeking, spineless imbeciles who have lost the trust, and connection, with the public.
BP to high, must lie down...

Justice used to be about innocent untill proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.
Much recent legislation has made us potentially guilty unless we can prove ourselves innocent.

Good for them - it's one of the oldest forms of business and should be cherished as some form of national heritage. :smt094
Interesting read though - "employed by organisations as diverse as Royal Mail".
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Royal Mail one of the biggest employers of those released from HMP?
So basically, instead of putting the cheeky monkeys back in, they just give them the right to legitimately enter homes to take stuff instead?
Don't see what the big deal is really, it's proceeds of crime, which means that if you're not in receipt of some proceeds of crime then it won't affect you, other than possibly being more cost effective than having to have police on scene?

Im glad you have so much trust in unaccountable bureaucrats being given powers to enter homes and sieze property.I only wish I had as much faith in these people.

I don't trust or have faith in anyone, in the most part, not even members of my own family. The key, is not to care and be oblivious. If that fails, blame soaps.

Given how twisted the Terrorism act got and how twisted this is already becoming it's hardly a stretch to see it will go from you quantifiably profited from x crime to the tune of £x to..you owe us this money because we say so, we'll be round to collect, don't wait up we'll let ourselves in thankyou very much.
Just look at the fiasco of them trying to give private det collectors police powers despite the massive coverage on just how corrupt these are and them trying to deny people the right to claim back the cost of representing themselves in court above the minimum legal aid rate which is poor and could quite easily be cut to make it imposable to represent yourself without it costing you more than it would to just pay the fine.
Justice will become a rich man's thing at this rate.
