Someone had a thread for roads in the VOG... I think we should have a region-wide advisory of dodgy bits we've spotted. I'll post a few:

A469 on Caerphilly Mountain going south, between the golf club and the Traveller's Rest, a nasty rough patch of damaged tarmac and gravel just before the downward slope.

A469 still going south, by the entrance to the New Manor Country House Inn Hotel (whatever), just before the bridge over the M4. One of the patches where they've covered a cable/pipe laid under the road has a BIG chunk missing, right where you'd be riding (just to right of the centre of the lane). It would like catch your wheel or at the very least give you a hell of a bump.

A470 towards Cardiff, just after the exit to the Coryton Interchange. There's a strange white bump in the lefthand lane.

Great idea, but we should all take it one stage further and report it.

Councils can't fix it if they dont know about it, but once they do they become liable.

Heres the local links

The one near the New House Country hotel submitted to Cardiff. It's downright dangerous, in the dark you wouldn't see it.

Those links should be in a sticky or something.

That had been there for years, I even avoid it in the car now.

If it ever rains keep an eye out for 'rainbows' on the Ceder Tree roundabout on the A468/A469 north of Caerphilly. Lorries/Busses/Vans love dumping diesel there

I reported this using Mogs' link... and they've repaired it! Now there's a big ugly lump of hastily poured asphalt in the hole, but yeah, they've fixed it (and sent me an email saying as much)

THE SYSTEM WORKS!

Onramp at Nantgarw for the A470 to go southbound towards Cardiff, there is a BIG pothole right in the middle of it near the cattle grid. Car will straddle it, but it's right in a bike's path. No doubt due to the road salt.

Look out for several bad pot holes on the A468 at the top of Nantgawr hill as you head towards the A470. They are just after the round-about at the top of Nantgawr hill on the inside (left) lane, but, are nearer the middle of the road, so, on the outside of the inside lane

Long "rainbow" of spilt diesel on the A48 west bound today, be careful if your using that road

A470 Northbound in Cardiff, just before Gabalfa flyover. There's a weird lump of some description in the lefthand lane, in a fairly new looking patch tarmac. It's like it was hastily done and something is poking up through the road from underneath. Weird.

Tesco Western Avenue, the roads going into it are absolutely horrific, most notably the sharp righthander into the parking area after you've passed the service station.

My favourite strip of paving on the A469 has been repaved again (near the Manor Parc hotel, just by bridge over M4) and presumably they don't want to come back for a while as it's now a BUMP so I guess we're meant to tamp it down for them!

Wouldn't go that way on a bike anyway tbh, the mountain road is riddled with potholes and the lovely little marbley bits that come out of them.

Anyone travelling around Caerphilly beware - you've probably noticed they're repaving a LOT of roads but at the moment many are just a rough service covered with loose chippings. Bad news for my car's paintwork, even worse for bikes.

At last glance, roads like this included:
Mountain Road, from the Traveller's Rest to the burger bar
A468 between the school and Pontygwindy Road
Mill Road (!!!) from the railway bridge up to the roundabout leading up to Abertridwr

Not pleasant, and there's a lot of idiots who don't care about their safety or paintwork flying along as if nothing's different. I'm just avoiding them altogether.

I have been thinking about my route to work avoiding those bits of road. There are routes, but, it is complicated, ha ha

They now seem to have started doing something to the roundabout at the garden centre, nothing's dug up yet but seriously, there needs to be at least one decent road in and out that doesn't involve slippy slidey gravel. I don't really want to have to commute via Rudry and the lanes...

Update to this, the mountain road is now finished and has blinding white paint markings and vivid yellow bus stops! Gosh, a well-paved, well-painted road!n It's like being on the continent or something!

I went up Nantgarw hill from the Ceder Tree roundabout side today and although the road looks like crap it is alright as long as you take it steady. I rode a worse road in Yorkshire on the weekend and didn't stack it

our local council seem to want to weather to do the work for them. They're going around using a was is essentially a gritter full of little stones spreading them all over the road and waiting for the cars to trample them all down into the warm tarmac.
All that warns you of this impending doom is a warning triangle with "Loose chippings" then boom, you go round the next bend and bet your life the roads like ice. Its got me doin 20 most places, any lean on bends an the front gets really un easy & you can forget about touching the front brake!
I know its not local to you guys but I felt like sharing ;)

*bumpity bump*

It's been MIA almost a year, but finally some important info:

The A470 just south of Coryton where the new bus lane has been put in had a large quantity of loose chippings on it this morning. Likewise, where the old road markings were it's a bit rough. Not sure about the northbound side yet.

Cymraeg_Atodeg

North-bound isn't too bad, markings are a bit steep & the road surface is a bit slippery when wet as it is so new

Also look out for chippings on the A468 past Llanbradach, Caerphilly council are rolling out the "bitumen & chippings" program on warm days, so, keep 'em peeled

Didn't go back north that way... it seems to be worst when the bus lane starts going south, felt a 'nice' little shimmy over that bit, not happy.

I got a little shake on this morning when I hit the gravel, I remembered then an moved across

Also, I swear that pot hole in the right lane on Nantgawr Hill as you get to the A470 roundabout is getting bigger!
