View Full Version : Did a police biker honk at me?

Coming into work today, saw a police bike coming the other way, and heard the distinctive 'parp!' of a bike horn.

If I didn't know better, I'd say he was doing an 'audio nod' because he couldn't see me through the traffic light clusters.

Anyone else had this?

Yes, Monday night to be exact. Police bike in cleck town centre. I saw him sat waiting to pull out of a side road and he beeped as I approched I looked more directly at him and he nodded also. I thought it was quite strange at the time, glad you've posted this thread now lol.

Heh. I do wonder what protocol is for police bikers. On the one hand they're bikers too, but on the other they're the po-po-diddly-o-leece. Maybe I'm afraid I'll get nicked for violating section 7.89394857 subsection 5 of the RTA - you may not twitch your head while in operation of a motor vehicle unless you are a registered mental.

I know what you mean, following a thread on here which said others nod at police bikes all the time. I now do the same but I always wonder if they're going to pull me over to explain why they are not my friend and I should be more mindful of they're reason for been there etc.
As yet though, no pull

If I recall correctly (could be wrong) they are human so I believe it may differ from police motrizedbycyclist to police motrizedbycyclist, I nod, usually get a nod back. However views differ from copper to copper, I've ridden with a copper who was chuffed that I was happy to do high speeds but then when speaking to his colleague on a seperate occasion he scowled as he mentioned this particular copper was 'one of the faster ones'. If you get copper A he may well be happy to use his discretion aslong as what you're doing is safe, if you get copper B there's a chance he may be a bit anally retentive.

There were 4 cops on the M621 yesterday morning coming the other way, the first 3 were pootling along in formation - gave them a nod. Then the 4th must have got held up/pulled over for a **** further back cos he was nailing it up the outside lane to catch the other 3. Made me chuckle thinking that if it were me I'd be dropping back all the time and then once collegues were out of sight, winding it on to catch them up lol.

I suspect you'd be the same dave :)
What you recon the chances are that this was the 'officer A' for my area.

Police are human ya know ;) we have nodding and beeping capabilities too

I played chase with 3 police bikers yesterday en route to Ponderosa in a grey unmarked Vaux Vectra and outran them. They just smiled at me while they got their coffee in the cafe. (all of us on driver training)

All way up Horseshoe Pass and a little before, they were nice guys from Merseyside ....one was a little nicer than the others tho mmmmm ;)

Yes, but it's the doing of this while on duty that I'm not so sure of. Leedsmatt says it best when he's nervous that nodding will result in a 'I'm not yer mate, SUNSHINE!' bollocking at the roadside. Or possible 'Are you comin' at me with that helmet, sir?'

SKY NEWS TOMORROW: Rogue copper Shellywoozle drove at over 2,000mph on PUBLIC ROADS, just to get coffee! "We were on driver training!" she pleaded from behind the heavy iron door as gaolers threw away the key. Nothing further was heard from her as the rats closed in...

I would hope you would not get that kinda of attitude from the Police let alone a fellow biker. You can't be stopped for nodding, unless ya falling asleep and nodding off :-s ok I shall get my coat

I've had them nod at me before I've nodded, get the odd wave as well :) Just do it, chances are you will already be out of their line of sight :)

If they wave it's usually a bad thing :(

Add that to the charges against me:

"Failure to nod back at police biker"
"Failure to add 'PC' to police officer when making up silly stories about them."
"Failure to say 'sir' to superior officers when not interrupting them."

I nod or give a thumbs up to police bikers, sometimes they respond but sometimes they dont. One time, I was behind a police rider for a few miles of the A406, he told me my (then restricted) SV sounded nice at some traffic lights, then I took lead in front of him until I pulled off, gave him a wave as I did and he honked back.

I fully expect a modern British sentence...

£2,000 compensation for the distress caused by being handcuffed and manhandled by PC Shellywoozle in the back of her unmarked lurvemachine, and a seat in the House of Lords.

Can give you all but the £2,000 and the seat in House of Lords. Deal or no deal

I rather not my missus get done for assaulting an amorous police officer when she finds out, so no deal ;)

Ok I'll expand on that (but suspect you know what I meant ), majority of bikers wave/nod when almost passing each other, police riders tend to be looking up the road at that point ;)
