Even with drop-off, there is still a need for a TEC. Otherwise the guys marking the junctions won't know who the last man is. Or have I misunderstood your meaning?

Hope you have 2 wheels by then :)

Cymraeg_Atodeg
11-01-10, 07:01 PM
Well, I was assuming that we'd all know eachother and the guy who was TEC from the last drop can signal to the current "drop-off" that they are the last man/woman/monkey

An organised TEC works a lot better in practice, usually wearing a high-viz.

Have your ride-out had this many peeps on it CA? Pics from last years Severn Circuit.

I didn't have all the bikes in shot...

We ran a drop out system with a dedicated leader. The bike who was "second" would drop-off and wait on the side of the road in an safe position so that all the other bikes knew where the leader went. When the last bike had passed the waiting bike he would then move off and catch up with everyone else.

It was all done by signals as we kept track of who was at the back and such. We haven't lost anyone in 7 ride-outs so far :-)

Its also possible to lose someone if everybody else leaves the petrol station while they are still in the loo.

Oh and Cymraeg_Atodeg any chance you could make your pictures bigger, I still have room on my 32" monitor?

I've learned my lesson on that one.

We'll be using the drop-off system with a dedicated Hi-Viz TEC and Lead. It works - no need to tweek it.

I'm not complaining mate, had a fantastic ride trying to catch you lot up...

Until I realised that I had no idea where we were supposed to be going. I knew roughly where I was so ended up at Chepstow and gave GG a call, then headed back across the bridge for a cuppa.

As for the ride on the 27th looks like a date to aim for having the bike back together.

Yoooo, will pencil this in now and confirm at a later date.

This time though I'll:
A: Not invite old friends from back home around for the same weekend
B: Not drink too much the night before
C: Not go to throw up in the supermarket loo at the lunchtime stop
D: Not (try to) follow Beenz back 'The Scenic Route'

** EDIT **

Oh PISH. Just noticed I have a bikesafe course that day, but not sure if it's confirmed yet

phil24_7

i think YOU! proved this point very well at chew valley ;)

Chew valley proved that marking the junction until the last rider passes, doesn't work without a TEC, when impatient numpties are the ones doing the waiting! ;)

phil24_7
18-01-10, 06:33 PM

It's also possible to loose someone if they stop for fuel, and get stuck in the queue, meaning you don't get out in front of TEC. I did have a fun loon on my own, going the wrong way, trying to catch up! Then the blast down the motorway trying to get to the lunch stop was... Interesting! lol :D

18-01-10, 09:08 PM

Which ride was that on?

I remember the marking on the roundabout, I remember you missing the start of one ride as you forgot to put petrol in the bike. But I don't remember you getting left at a petrol station. Or was that on Invasion of the Valleys?

Or have I just been on to many rides and they are all blurring into one?

Or was that one the Severn Circuit last time before the lunch stop?

I need a new remembery thing.

On the Cheddar Gorge ride-out, I waited for my mate whilst marking a junction. At the next junction, the marker had got impatient and done one.

On the ride-out that I was late for as I had run out of fuel, just before lunch, I stopped as I had no idea how far we had left before lunch. Whilst in the queue, TEC went passed, so I rode like a loon, trying to catch up, not realising everyone had turned off!

I make a point now of NOT STOPPING! lol
