An Italian motorcyclist is appealing after he lost his licence when speed cameras clocked him at an impossible 383 mph.
Paolo Turina, 26 - who also copped a £200 fine - claims the speed camera was clearly so defective the charge should never have been brought.
"If I could go that fast I'd enter my bike in the MotoGP world championships. Valentino Rossi would not stand a chance. What did they think they were clocking - a jet fighter?" asked Mr Turina, of Cernusco Lombardone.
"If the court rules the fine will stand then I'm going to send it to the Guinness Book of Records - after all if the court says its true then I should get the credit for this remarkable feat."
Police claim the camera was working perfectly but said they suspected bungling staff botched the charge paperwork.
The appeal court has not yet made a decision on the case.

TBH, I'd accept the fine and get my name in the history books! :D

Will they be able to prove what speed he was actually doing?
Will they be able to prove what speed he was actually doing?
Says it was a paperwork error not a camera failure so should be able to trace it back to what the camera originally said.
I, of course, hope he gets away with it. No harm done ;)

It was probably 83 mph and a typo from some fat fingered bozo turned it into an impossible speed .

Well they do say red bikes are faster...

I bet it was 38.3 in a 30 limit.Anything more than that and the Guzzi would be in a thousand bits at the roadside.

Aaaah God I laughed hard then

only owners of red bikes say that.
Police in Northumberland thought they'd clocked a car doing almost 600mph. The jet fighter, just off the coast got missle lock, as well as frying the speedgun. Thankfully, for the copper, the pilot decided not to fire.
Northumberland Police received a letter advising them to tell their officers that it was unwise to aim speedguns at low flying military aircraft.

I`m calling Bull on that , for starters the aircraft whether it was Military or not would have devices fitted to stop a Laser getting lock on it . They are fitted to Nose , rear and either wing as well as one in the middle . This is to stop them being targeted when they are vulnerable on takeoff and landing as well as in the air . This is to stop terrorists trying to shoot them down , if they weren`t installed we would be losing Jets all over the place . The Police Laser gun probably has some short falls as well , the story is an Urban Myth and has been disproven by Mythbusters on TV as well ...... and for my own reasons that I cannot discuss , I know this is impossible .

I know , I can`t help it , the software/hardware can tell what type of laser it is anyway and dismiss it as non threatening . I seriously doubt a laser gun clamped down in a rig would alert one of these devices , never mind a Policeman with a steady arm and traffic thundering past :)

That's because only they know it.

So the next military offensive technological breakthrough will be missiles powered by police laser speed guns?

I'd be more impressed if they design a missile that targeted police laser speed guns...:)

It`s non-threatening in a "Not really up to much apart from nicking people" type of way . Anyhoo I can`t say much more than that .

Ah well that's the breakthrough - it flies up to the aircraft, arrests the pilot, finds out his name & address, sends off an NIP and if he gives any verbal, a section 59 for his noisy aircraft, before sending him off home with his tail between his legs and a rectification notice for the non e-marked indicators.

Oh my aching sides - just had a monty Python moment
