Hi

Just want to share my frustrations with the Org. My PS3 Blue Ray Drive has failed again. I've only had the thing two years. The first time it failed was Jan 09 and it was repaired by Sony for free under warranty. I thought fair enough they picked up the PS3 and it was returned to me a week later with a working drive.

Some 10 months later and the same dam thing has happened again and now they want £128 to repair it. I'm sore tempted to bin the now useless brick and get an XBOX 360 Elite.

:smt071to everyone at Sony lol

Yes, get an elite. They are quite free of the earlier Xbox niggles; my brother has noted his new elite runs considerably cooler than his old premium.

Failure rates on xbox are reported as higher; sounds like you've had some bad luck though

you think you'll be better of with an xbox good luck.

Yeah there is some eu law about electrical goods, reckon it's 2 years though possibly 3. Anyway this might still see you right?

xbox's are far better anyway why would you want a crappy playstation and the myth about xbox having more failuress isn't as bad as it sounds, yes it is higher but only slightly, the main difference is your hear about it more than PS3 failures, that's all.

23% vs 10% - apparently (http://uk.gamespot.com/news/6216691.html)

every xbox in our house has gone wrong some multiple times i'm sorry but they are way more unreliable than ps3.

But xbox are more likely to repair the consol foc instead of charging you even out of warranty

+1 on the electrical goods thing tho, im sure some one posted it on here.

The PS3 and Xbox in my house fail rate as it stands as of now is PS3:Xbox

2:1

So in my house the PS3 is twice as unreliable as the xbox, and mines an old xbox the new ones have most of the niggles worked out.

your thinking of old xboxes, they have released loads fo new versions with different chips and mobo's and the latest ones and elites are far better as stated by your article. " Since then, first-year failure rates have plummeted to below the 4 percent the company projected." Never had a problem with my elite and my mate has had his premium since launch with no problems.

M$ never cared about the quality of the actual console as they sell at a loss - the real money is in the licenses from the games and they took a hit with the Wii sales; hence they addressed the shoddy quality issues to try and promote the brand some more.

well it turns I have to pay for the repairs. Hell if am sending it back to Sony though. There is a place in Dundee that'll replace the drive in one hour and show me it working before I leave the shop. And its only gonna cost me 80 sheets. Will head up there on next Monday.

3 PS3s broke within 6 months of eachother at mah house, not all mine, but they've been fine for the last year or so. I know someone who blew up his xbox, sod the three rings, but again, he hasn't had problems for a while. I wouldn't decide on failure statistics, decide on which you think gives you the better experience.
