Shamelessly ripped from PH (http://pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=23&t=767945&mid=141885&nmt=RE:%20Woman%20Reports%20Herself%20While%20Drun k%20Driving)...

Police in Wisconsin have busted 49-year-old Mary Strey for drunk driving - after she called 911 from her car to report herself. The 911 call ran as follows:

Dispatcher: Clark County 911

Mary Strey: Somebody's really drunk driving down Granton Road...

Dispatcher: ...Which way are they going?

Mary Strey: They are going, um...

Dispatcher: Towards Granton or towards Neillsville?

Mary Strey: Towards Granton

Dispatcher: Okay are you behind them, or...

Mary Strey: No, I am them

Dispatcher: You am them?

Mary Strey: Yes, I am them

Dispatcher: Okay, so you want to call and report that you're driving drunk?

Mary Strey: Yes

Police say Strey did pull over when the dispatcher asked her to stop, and she was arrested after she failed a 'field sobriety test'.

I always think America is such a backward country doing their field sobriety tests.
You only see people fail them miserably when people are blotto, but what happens if you are only just over the limt? :-k

TBH, the field tests are an incredibly good way of judging whether someone is driving under the influence of something. We have alcometers for the side of the road but they dont test for drugs.

If someone passes the breath test and there is no one enarby training in carrying out a FIT then it's very difficult to prove anything.

Agreed,if someone hasnt touched a drop of 'intoxicating liquor' but is incapable of controlling the vehicle as they are on drugs then the field test catches them on that, I have gotten a few good arrests from this.

If they're still suspicious they can administer the usual blood/breath/urine tests.

I just think it would make more sense to do it the other way round. i.e. road side breath test gives a more scientific and quicker and safer (don't have people stumbling about beside a busy road) result. If they pass that, then do the impairment tests to catch any other reason they are impaired.
