wheel bearing covers

will be geting new bearings as well how do i put the new ones in? i know how to get them out but not in, do i just hit them in do they just push in ?

Wheel bearings are a press fit into the wheel. They should not under any circumstances be 'walloped' in:D

This is where a little heat can assist you. Once you have the old bearings out, & the bearing recesses cleaned. You should then heat the bearing recess carefully using a hot air gun of the paint stripper type, or a blowlamp if you're very careful. You don't need to get the wheel hot enough to cook bacon on, & keep the heat source moving in a circular fashion, to avoid localising the heat.
My rule of thumb is that when the wheel is too hot to touch it's hot enough. I have asbestos hands so this is only a general guidline.
You should have the outside of the new bearings oiled, & then locate the bearing over the recess & carefully tap the outside edge of the bearing (not the centre) with a small hammer. Tap evenly until the bearing is flush with the wheel.

You will need a suitable drift to get the bearing fully home, & the best thing is one of your old bearings that has been ground down slightly so it wont stick in the recess above the new one. Again tap gently on the outside only.

Do the speedo drive side bearing first, & once the wheel has cooled a little. Turn it over & gently heat the other sides bearing recess. Then drop in the centre spacer, & proceed to install the new bearing in the same manner in which you did the speedo drive side.
Tap the bearing in until it's just touching the centre spacer, i.e. you should still be able to move the spacer a little from side to side. Put the spindle through when the bearing is nearly 'home' & take it out again, this will help align the spacer.

I can't recall if there's a seal on the speedo drive side, I'll have a look later as I'm doing fork seals on an 05 SV, & will obviously have the wheels out.

i have orderd 2x new bearings, new bearing seals and recived my new speedo drive to day (from a another k3 in perfect condition)

I had a look, & there's no seal within the wheel on the speedo side.

Be careful, & have a little patience, & it should all go well.

ok thanks seems that the fiche is wrong then (have a look and it shows 2 seals one on each side)

Nope on that side the only seal is that integral to the bearing itself IIRC

^ yup looking at it there is no room for the seal.

its all done and dusted :D new bearings in (fully sealed unlike the ones that came out) new speedo on and working, also had time to grind the top dogbone bolt off as it was stuck solid and both nut heads had striped :/ but got it off and my new 30mm jack up plates are on and a new nut and bolt obv

all in all a good day, also preped my MT-03 for sale with its new matt black tank :)
