A couple of weeks back Holly come down to mine to meet the parents, while she was down her mum dared her to go on the back of the bike. So I armed my dad with camera's and then dug out and drowned the poor girl in my old bike gear.

A quick posing picture.

I took her for a very short run up and down my village road where I managed to blip it to 47mph at one point before slowing down. The downside being that it messes with her hair.

I left my dad in charge of the video camera and here's a short video.

I think she's still very 50/50 about it but that's better then her not liking it at all. Hopefully next time she's down I (with the aid of the org ;) ) will be able to persuade her to get on the back again and go for a proper ride.

Hey good news there chap. :D

It is much more fun going pillion with a girl on the front though, there are more fun bits to hold onto. ;)

I have my own license, it hardly beats going pillion with Carol, she rides Silvie (our SV) with such grace and style, it feels amazing. There is a real joy to going on the back of the bike with a very experienced rider. :smt026

Oh top tip though, tell your lovely girl about the special effect that the SV has when it gets to about eight and half thousand revs. It works on me every time... :smt047

Not sure if thats a good or bad thing though ...... she's such a jiggler ... won't sit still ..... finds it really exciting .....

Aw bless.... what a lovely video and pics. I can fully sympathise with the helmet hair and I`m still struggling to find the answer (other than a No.1) :o(

Helmet hair is a pain in the bum, especially if you have a fringe! It ends up kinked in loads of different directions, or stuck in your eyes. I now pin mine back but when I take my helmet it off, halfthe time the fringe comes with it!!!

As for going pillion, although I have my licence I still like going pillion with an experienced rider. I like not having to think about everything all the time!

Good for her!,hopefully the more she does it the more she'll enjoy it,been taking my eldest son(nine) on the back for the last three years(he can't get enough, lol),just started giving my five year old little local runs & he loves it also, picture below taken about 18 months ago.....

The youngest now has proper boots rather than biker wellies, lol.

Glad she enjoyed it. It must have been such a worry that she might not like it. Worries like that keep your mind off other things, Peak Rideout videos for example! ;)

That side is in great nick, the other sides still a bit damaged from my off last year but that's only cosmetic stuff. :)

Was Holly your first pillion then?

Nah I've given my brother and Punyexpress short pillion rides. It's amazing how a pillion changes the bike.

Nice one, Holly! :D

Don't worry about helmet hair, you are always going to look better than Smeggo when you take your helmet off, and that's all that matters! ;)

joking aside- I just watched the video Seggs..

She looks sooo comfortable with it on the return .. will we be seeing her on a rideout in the spring??

I think you will be going bike clothes shopping soon.

I dont think her Ugg boots will catch on as safety equipment.

MAyyyybbeeeee you should have given her a brief prior to goin outside and prior to putting your helmets on.. ..

well chuffed she pillioned. ace..

oh..

does this mean you will be getting a VFR soon ?

Good job getting the g/f on the back of the bike.

Better fitting helmet might be an idea for next time...

Show her the photo of me on the back of the GSX-1000R and explain how easy she has it on the SV, ha ha

Good to see she gave it a go and hasn't said no to another attempt yet.
Are they Uggs, or Ugg-type boots? Wonder what sort of protection they give! ;)

I've still yet to take anyone pillion!

Smeggo? Get his wallet out? The moths will have a heart attack! :D

E bay is your friend. Lots of boots on there, just try a few pairs in a bike shop and make note of which feel good to you, then look on e bay for your size.

If it was any more then the 2 miles with most of that being in a 30 limit then I would've. :)

Hopefully at some point she will be on a rideout to see some of the riff raff the org has to offer. ;)
You right, it does look like bike clothes shopping is on the cards at some point.
No way to the VFR, I'm not that old and slow yet.

Helmet of her own would be a more perfect idea. :D I don't think she'd like the 'perch' on the back of a GSXR thou. Plus the power will scare her away for life. :p

Smeggo? Get his wallet out? The moths will have a heart attack! :D

At the last count I had about 200 moths in there and don't intend opening it any time soon. ;)

+1, I got my Frank Thomas boots off there for £29 inc p&p (RRP 100 odd quid :-)) oooh about a year ago now and they're still doing a good job and they've been in all weathers! Just be careful what you go for, don't forget the org is always here to help and advise if Scott ain't good enough :-P

eBay for her bike gear.
That's where we got Izi's from, apart from the gloves and skid lid. However she's still not had the moneys worth out of it yet..

Well, more people for the rideout weekends to attend and meet :D.

I'll give it 6 months Holly and you'll want your own lisence.... it's just one of those things getting used to the instant accel. and power.

When i first went from me 125. It took me about 2 weeks of pure riding just to stop being suprised at the sudden bursts of speeds i could create. Never had to pillion on someone bike.

But i've carried several different passengers... All with varying results... My dad being one of the biggest pain in the backsides... 120mph up the mountain with a fidget **** aint cool. Good job he's working his way to his bike test!
