Yeah, I started 7am today too, but only had to be up at 6am. Still sucks!

(if I do the late shift, I don't start until 2pm but then I'm not finished until 9pm!)

My shifts vary and we have to be there at least half an hour beforehand to get uniform on and kit into the car and briefing out the way.

So...

Earlies: 07 x 17
Lates: vary from 12x23, 13x23,14x00 or on weekends 17x03 (usually 04)
Nights: 23x07 on weekends 20x07

4 on, 2 off except nights where we finish on the same day so we kind of get 3 then.

Anyhwere between 8 - 8:30... depends...

If you are getting up at 5am to get to work for 7am.. how far do you travel to work each day ?

Your solution might well be to get a job closer to home if you a travelling along way everyday...

2 hours before you get to work!

I get out of bed, 8.30, get showered and ready, do the 12 mile journey down the dualie to be in at 9.

I start work at 9.30, but always get up at 6am to make my husband a packed lunch as he starts work at 7.30. But in the summer my hours can be 6.30am to 9.30pm if it it a Test match day, and that includes the weekends.

RichT
04-11-09, 09:54 AM
My hours are a little flexi. Officially it's an 8:30 start, but if I get in at 9 I simply have to leave 30 minutes later that day. I quite like my 8 - 4:30 Fridays.

8am for me, which sucks all the ass going (I'm not a morning person).

Up at about 7:20-30 ish, leave by 7:40 and I'm here by 8 - the beauty of being up here is the ability to drive / ride for 20 mins and actually be somewhere else.

Either 6am or 6pm depending on night or day shift....and thats for 12 hrs.

Right now I feel the need for a holiday in the sun, I'm turning into a mole, I haven't seen proper daylight for ages!! Go to work in the dark, come home in the dark :-(

I start when i want, and finish when i want. Most days at my desk for 7am, downstairs at the end of the dining room - its a long walk from my bed. Always have my phone with me, and take calls day or night 24/7.

Today is a nice day, so I'll take the bike out for xx. But I'll work thro' Corrie/emmerdale etc, when Mrs B is glued to the tv.

When I started the job it was upwards of an 80 hr week but it a whole load less now.

Offically 8.30.

But you can come in when you like, as long as you owkr 8.5 hours a day.

So I could come in a 6am, and be finished at 2.30.

I come in between 7.45 and 8.45..

5 days a week, weekends off.

Can't be bad.

Flex for me. Usually get to my desk for 7:30 just to miss the traffic and try to head out of here by 16:30 to miss the worst of it going home. That goes out of the window of course every time I'm invited to a conference call with my US colleagues, none of whom have mastered the art of allowing for time zones...

In my case the nights mess with my head, and take me until weds to get round them, but be then I'm having to think about the early shifts again. Doing three 12 hr nightshifts in a row make you forget which day it is, and your kids think you are some sort of ogre! I see my son Monday to Thursday, and then hes back to my parents house for the weekend so I can work. He see more of them than his mummy, unless its school hols.

In the past I've gritted my teeth and thought the wages keep the roof over my head, and clothes on his back, but now its seriously encroaching on quality family time...you can't do that in a couple of hours after school. But then again, the good point is I am at home in school holidays and if hes ill etc.

I'm seriously thinking of changing career next year. I don't want to be doing another nine months of hell in that place when I'm due back in April. Its no life really, much as its a solution to being a single mum. But what on earth does a machine operator in a chocolate firm change their path to?

What time I get into the office and what time I start work don't always match up ;)
Sadly it works the other way round too with going home :(

Technically 10am to 6pm but often get molested as soon as I get into the office about 9ish (not in a good way), then I'm on call 2 weeks out of 3 :(

My job is the standard 9am - 5pm

But in my previous job it was 8.30 - 4.30pm. I prefered starting early and finishing early. We also had flexitime so on some days I could essentially 'choose' my hours as longas I got the work done and let my boss know. Unfortuantely I dont have that luxury anymore :( but I am happier in my new job so I guess it balances out

Your solution might well be to get a job closer to home if you a travelling along way everyday...

I Use the bike allyear round as my only form of transport.(not at the moment as i am still injured and Waiting for the bike to be fixed but this is my normal routine)
its only a 25-30 minute commute. But it goes somthing like this
get up at 5am then get a shower .... have a brew and just try to wake my brain up i then get ready into my work clothes and then put all my bike gear on.
i then go down into the garage and unlock the bike... move her car out the way .... move the bike out ...then put the car back.....
i get to work for around 6.45 lock the bike up and go and get changed out of all my bike gear .... make a coffe and go up into my office by this time its 6.55-7ish......

so its not so much the traveling its all what happens before and after that takes the most time.

Any once else start at stupid o'clock?

Up at 5am, leave the house by 6am. Drive for up to 2 1/2 hours before starting my calls, then work right through lunch (grab a sarnie and eat while driving) til I'm done. I might get lucky and finish all my calls before 6pm, then I have up to 2 1/2 hour drive home. Once home I have about half an hour's work to do prepping for the next day before my time is my own.

Mind you, they pay me stupid amounts of money for what amounts to a fair bit of driving (50K a year) and dead easy work when in my calls, so I can put up with it for now.

I'm a surveyor for a cavitywall/loft insulation firm

up at 6 every week day for as long as i can remember, start at 7 and then work until i finish my job which is normally a full house worth of carpet and vinyl floor coverings, so it depends how big the house is to wat time i finish, normally around 4:00pm, sometimes earlier and sometimes later, and sometimes really flippin late which is pants

For me its quite nice, right now 9-5 though I could arrange 8-4, or 10-6. I get up around 0730 shower, jump on the bike in for 9.

Shift 12 hour days, 7am-7pm always start on days quick change over to nights 7pm-7am and either 4 or 5 days on. I then get 4 and 5 days off then every few months I get 6 days off. I miss shift:( Though three earlies in a row are rought I'm not an early person. Getting up at 0530 sucks, but it doesn't happen to much.

3:30am-8:30am tomorrow, up at 3, quick wash, brew and jog to work :)
