View Full Version : Today is a very special day...

The reason why today is a special day is because it's been 2 years exactly since I passed my restricted test. I can put my hand on my heart and say my SV has never had the full power ECU in at any point and I've never ridden a bike bigger then the restricted SV. But as of today my SV has just grown some balls. The other great news is my insurance is slowly becoming cheaper and cheaper, I could finally go fully comp and be able to ride other bikes 3rd party with 3 years NCD at the grand total of £420! So Combatfred, Pete, Mr Spiers, G and Kwak when can I have a go? ;)
But anyway back to the point in hand. Today is a bit of a sad day in a respect because even though it was restricted it was still such an amazing bike to ride. I'll miss the constant challenge I had riding with many full powered SV's then sticking with them through the twisty bits. Then on a rare occasion overtaking 1 or 2 and having the buzz thinking "I'm not meant to be able to do this".
Anyway I'm off to change the ECU and get riding. I will report my findings back later. :D

Many congrats, although I have a Kwak 600 I have had recent access to a curvy SV: I rode it when it was unrestricted and even when it had the restrictor fitted I still found it a right laugh to ride :)
Nice one Seggons. Its like a whole new bike, and the induction roar becomes addictive ;)

He managed well enough with the restriction in. ;)
Well done on your patience Segg Ones, and waiting for the two years. Have fun, and shiny side up now for at least two years please Segg Star.

One word to sum up what I've just experienced, WOW! It wasn't a massive shock because I started riding it like I always had which is between 4 to 6 thousand revs. Anything up to 6K is pretty much the same as it had been restricted. But after 6K it really takes off! On a restricted the power start dieing but now it's just more and more, it's only the limiter that really stops it.
While I was out I took it to a private bit of road and squeezed out 130 kph indicated which was fun but tiring I found. 100 isn't too bad but 130 you really get a beating by the wind plus the bike trying to throw you off the back. It's also amazing just how quick 100 comes up. I'm so used to being behind the screen trying to get every last drop of power to get there but it's so easy now.
To anyone out there that is currently restricted and wavering weather to take it out early or not then my adivce is don't. You learn so much more riding a restricted SV, since you don't have the power you have to plan more for overtakes. The other thing is as you don't have the drive out of the bends you learn to speed up your entry speed.
A well ridden restricted bike is quicker then a badly ridden unrestricted bike. :D
Enjoy Mr Seggons :smt023

Well done bert, now you just have to adjust your braking points etc. to ensure with the new power you have enough time to slow/stop as req. Remember you have more power, more speed but same brakes & reaction time, might need to adjust slightly.
Be safe,. OG

My first go on my sv was unrestricted, had to ride it home, coming from a 125, i was thoroughly shocked at how fast 100mph came  its now restricted and i havent touched it since, im not anticipating much of a change as like you i ride it at about 5k. I too will be staying restricted for the duration.
Congratulations, Scott! I can't say that I noticed that you were restricted:D

So when do you want me to come over? Tomorrow sounds like a good day. ;)
You bloody girl you've got a big gay poofters fairing keeping all the wind off! :smt044
I may have fairing but have you seen the size of me. I've hardly got a slim and elegant figure to slice through the air. It's more of a parashoot then anything else.

Thanks OG and it's only today I've really found use for the brakes. :p

Are you scared I might actually use the duke properly and take it beyond 3 and a half thousand revs? ;)
If only it was Sean, but it's still an ugly pointy :smt044
I think your over due a eye check old man.
Plan. PLAN? You mean all those near misses were planned! :smt119
All 100% under control. ;)

That was all we ever needed to use to keep in front of you! :smt044
Not letting you ride the Duke because I don't fancy spending hours removing all the drool, slobber and other bodily fluids afterwards! :smt119

My first day of unrestricted riding began with this test:
Start the bike, kit up and ride gently until warm (I rode for about 10 miles or so...thouroughly warm!). FInd a good bit of straight road. Get up into third gear at about 5000 rpm (40 mph). Open throttle. Wide open. Be amazed at the volume of noise. Then hold on for the power above 7500 rpm :D revell in having loads more rev's to use
yuuummmmyyyy
:( your making me jealous
My SV has been restricted since ive owned it, ive never tried full power but have ridden a ZX6R and even then i only used quart throttle like i was on my SV and even then it was a little bit quicker!
358 days to go... 358 days...
Have fun Seggons!

Well done seggons! i remember that day, that road road, THAT POWER! wow. Won't be long untill your used to it tho
Awww Pete and Lissa, your baby's all growed up!
Do you mind! It was bad enough someone thought Mr Speirs was our son a month ago, without people thinking we're responsible for bringing Seggons into the world too! :o

Don't worry they won't make that mistake, I'm far too good looking. ;)
Good luck Scott, now the hedges beckon again!!
Well with this added power I'll be able to go through the hedges this time.
One thing I have also noticed is how light the front wheel becomes. I mean my suspension is far far from fresh which doesn't help but many times the fronts just been left to it's own device. :D
