View Full Version : Honouring a fallen hero and friend of the org.
With Dangerous Dave's passing it struck me that he had many friends on here who he'd never actually met, and no doubt some, if not all of those people would like to show how much they appreciated this brave man's help both on the .org and in his working life.
As a former serviceman myself, and knowing there are a great number of serving and former servicemen who post to the org, I thought it would be a nice gesture if we could send a modest wreath to DD's funeral, to show our thanks and respects.
Obviously I'll be contacting Becky by pm to get some details of DD's real name and funeral service details so I can arrange to have a wreath sent to the correct place and on time.

I've pm'd Becky to ask her permission and to get details of where and when if it is deemed appropriate by her and DD's family.
If the family are happy for a representative of the org to be present at the funeral to pass on our respects then I would be more than happy to attend??

As expected, it seems that DD was a popular bloke, so I'll wait til Becky has replied with permission and details before doing anything else

Can I add - (probably been thought off) if donations exceed the wreath, if they either go to Becky, a charity of her choice? Maybe the Poppy appeal?

I'd say it should be up to Becks, but if there is money left over then perhaps Help for Hero's would be a suitable place to send any additional funds left over to
http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/
Especially as they are raising money for Army Recovery Centres at the moment...

Talking with the missus about this; I feel I will be doing this in any event.
Nevertheless I'm good with any excess going here.

I'd be proud to be a part of it, very least I could do, Im in.
Still haven't heard from Becky with permission and details as yet, so can't give any info as to where to send donations to.
Becky, if you see this please answer my pm - there are many of Dave's online .org friends who'd like to show their appreciation and pay their respects. Thank you.

Any military related deaths in my area (Merseyside) are always in the local newpaper..... whereabout did he live? can anyone get the local paper and the funeral arrangements might be in there
I thought I'd try the ARmy Rumour Service website (www.arrse.co.uk) to see if that gave any clues as to what happened to DD, but there's no mention of anyone resembling his description anywhere over the last three weeks, and if any place is going to know it'll be all over that site due to DD being SBS, so I still don't have a clue when the funeral is.
Arrse is a site for serving and former soldiers, marines, airmen and sailors to discuss present, past and future military issues. If an SBS member or Royal Marine had been killed in action anywhere in the world then news of his death would have filtered back to someone on that site pretty damned sharpish, as most have current links to all departments within the MoD or at least one of the armed services. I can't think why there's nothing on there about DD... strange

Covert operation probably. Our government are probably mounting a few operations that they wouldn't want to admit to.
As far as I am aware, there has been no mention what so ever of how he died. It could have been absolutely anything and not necessarily in the line of duty. It would not necessarily be advertised anywhere if his death was of any other nature than work. And apart from that, the fact that Becks herself has not mentioned anything at all indicates to me the door has been closed to the outside public. That alone should be respected.

With all due respect, it is know within units and sections if people have died. Nobody has died with the last week or so according to a fellow member of the section. 1 has been shot but not died.
Loz has not been looking for details in any way, mearly just confirmation and funeral details. Not in anyway disrespectfull in my opinon.

All I know is if I was Becks I'd be in a pretty terrible place right now, and posting on many different forums would not be on my mind at the moment. I think its great to see how many people want to show their respect, but the most respectful thing at the moment is to give loved ones time and space to get their head straight.

If you read back throught the threads about this there is mention of DD "Fighting til the end" and that he died away from Afghan but not at home, which leads me to believe he was elsewhere in the world doing his job. When any soldier/marine/ariman/sailor dies on ops the new filters back within hours to those around them, and from there into the army rumour mill. There's been nothing about DD - diddly-squat, nada, nowt, zilch and bugger all. I know he was reputed to be SBS, but even then news gets back that one of their unit has been killed, even if a name isn't released, again nothing at all has filtered back.
Now if DD was being buried with full military honours then he'd have been doing something the MoD aren't ashamed to admit to -covert ops in Aghan maybe (but we're told he didn't die there by Becks), or something else you'd expect there to be no fallout from. If they're going to bury him with full military honours then it's usual to release his name to the public once his family have been informed, again there's been nothing.
Make of it what you will, but I'm going to put my neck on the line here and admit that I am more than a bit sceptical about the whole story. There's just too much about the whole thing that shouts "Fake" to me and I'm not afraid to say my piece on the matter either.

After a quick chat with Lozzo and the other mods. I feel at this point its prudent to lock this thread.
If after reading it, those effected wish it to be unlocked in order to put their side of the story then please let either myself, Spiderman or Warthog know so that it can be.
I think at the minute it might descend into something that none of us really want to see happen
Thanks
