I want to stick two figures up to those tree hugging hippy's and heat my garage this winter. What do you recommend?

Its only to heat it when I'm in there working, as hopefully a more comfortable environment will help motivate me to rebuild my bike. So something that will heat up quickly would be nice. Its a good sized garage, you'll get a car in with plenty of room and there is a good bit of roof space so its larger than average but nothing massive.

As I think most people would say, price is a consideration, however energy type isn't so much. But having said that my rent is bills included so electric over gas would be the way to go here. So anybody else warming their garage, and what are you using?

A cheap electric fan heater will soon heat the place when the door's shut. Plus there's no risk of any fumes.

Dig a wee hole, fill with newspaper and dry wood, get a match and Hey Presto!

Thank you please.

Halogen heater £13 at Blunsdon market. Had my 2 years and its fine, plus a safety cut out if knocked over.

Burning any sort of fuel (gas/paraffin etc) will end up with loads of condensation when it all cools down again. 'Leccy's the way to go.

I use a 2.2kW fan heater but it's quite a big garage so it doesn't really heat it, rather it simply stops it getting too cold.

dad just sold this, wicked bit of kit dog doesnt lay in front of it for 2 long, dads was 16ft by 22ft concrete sectional garage with a tin roof and you only ever needed it on low didnt use much gas either, tbf, biggest downside was you couldnt spray when it was on because of water vapour, and if your working where its pointing its bloody warm.

Those things are insane. We have them at work sometimes. They melt everything in sight!
Overkill for a garage lol

I borrowed mine from the wall of the last site office I had..

Something like this warms up well, gives loads of heat, no fumes and is pretty safe too :)

You cannae beat a wood burning stove.... Open the hatch when it's nice and warm, then let the heat come out to create a nice and toasty garage to work in..... along with a good hifi system:smt020:smt020 The hours flee away without you noticing...

Just don't keep any petrol or oil cans near the burner:clown::clown::clown:

Thanks all for the suggestions.

I think I'm going to pass on the gas heaters as I don't want to risk melting anything, setting fire to anything, or being over came by fumes. Unless of course they are the good type of fumes... But I'm wondering off topic.

The wood burning stove sounds lovely, but sounds somewhat impractical for me too. And as for digging a hole, thats great but its a concrete floor.

So I think its between a Halogen or a Fan Heater. Biggest and most powerful it is then? But which is best?

My brother has one of those Propane 'Space heaters' they work a treat. Only need it on for 5-10 min to heat the garage up and then turn it off or down as low as it goes. Toasty!

They do work well but they're surprisingly expensive

Interested in these products too, It must be electric and it must be wall mountable and no taller than 200mm (or longer if it can be mounted at an angle). 1500mm max length its to go above the door.

I've been looking at Tube heaters, squirrel have you seen those?

You live in Swindon.

What you could do is abduct and imprison a young woman.

As long as you keep her well fed her body heat should just keep the frost off.

Be a bit of female company too

While The White Rabbits suggestion sounds like fun, I decided on the safer option of a Halogen Heater from Machine Mart (http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/oscillating-halogen-heater/path/halogen-heaters).

Given it a quick try and it heats up quite fast just have to see if it can keep the whole garage at a nice temperature to work in. Plus the light it gives off also adds to that warm feeling.

All I need now is some will power to fix the thing.

I definitely recommend cordless will power these days, you can carry it around with you and it's there when you need it. Needs regular recharging though.

I use a Super Ser calor gas heater just to take the chill off - it's initially turned right up full for half an hour then knocked back to the first position, which holds the heat level about right all night while we're out there in all but the worst weather. There's so much ventilation in our garages that you don't get the condensation problems usually associated with calor gas.

If that doesn't work, you've already got the hole for a ground anchor.
Just watch out for petrol or other flammable fumes with the one you've chosen. You don't REALLY want a BOMB!
