martianskippy here reporting from the lovely Kingston Hospital....
Currently on gas & air waiting for an x-ray of what seems like a broken leg.. Was on my way to work, going past Hampton court when a car in front of me started to pull to the right preparing for the right turnx. I slowed down to about 25 and continued to going straight when a lady who didn't see me pulled out from the side road. I hit the brakes and the front went from underneath me instantly... Bike lands on my leg .. and apparently breaks it..

Generally drugs cost you money, so while the NHS is picking up the tab, breathe deep, and type slow ;)

I have more time on my hands than most and will be out that way tomorrow anyway. Let us know when you can have visitors and I'll be sure to pop in with some specialist interest magazines or anything else you can't ask the lovely Kate to drop in...

many thanks to everyone for all the words of sympathy and help offers - it's great to know one can count on help of such great bunch of people when in trouble! Special thanks go to Paul and Jambo for sorting my bike out and showing their lovely unshaven mugs in the hospital to cheer me up ;) Warthog - i'm holding you on that promise of hog roast and vodka :) for the moment though morphine will have to do..

It looks that I've broken both the tibia and fibula in my right leg. Thankfully there is no damage to the knee or ankle. I'm expecting to be operated on tomorrow or Thursday; they're planning to use a pin through my tibia which should allow me to be back on my legs in a couple of weeks. If they can't do that, they'll use a plate instead but they'd rather avoid that as it's more invasive and will extend the healing process by months.
All in all it could have been worse..

Once again, thanks to everyone for your help and sympathy. I'll keep you updateon how I get on.
martin

Ps. Kate's doing great so p*** of ;-) on a serious note though, you cannot imagine how lucky I feel to have her around, especially at yimes like these..

Dude with a broken leg has just come back from the op. I'm being told all is well- they used a pin as planned. Still very sleepy as I'veen put on morphine but otherwise feel good. Should be able to return home tomorrow or Friday.

hello everyone :) sorry for no updates but the last couple of days were just a blur..
Unfortunately I'm still in the hospital as I've been feverish and apparently have low levels of oxygen in my blood.. That seems to have got a bit better today but now I seem to have bigger problems: i've noticed that when putting my leg together the doctors have somehow twisted my foot which is now pointing to the right rather than straight forward :( to make matters worse it now turns out i've partially lost sensation in my big toe and with it the abiility to lift the toe up :( not a very uplifting discovery I must say... It's a shame as the leg seems to be healimg really well and I was already allowed to put some weight on it..

Kate's a great support - don't know how I'd cope without her. It was also great to see Paul and Emma who braved the weather today to come and see me - it was great to see you guys :)
I'll most probably be staying in the hospital for a good few days until they figure how to mend my leg. Will try to update you once I know more myself. In the meantime thanks to everyone for your support and for keeping your fingers crossed for me.
Martin

Damn mate, just picked up on this thread - I feel for you. Hope the leg manages to heal in a decent amount of time and with as little pain as possible.

In the meantime, I understand your lovely missus may be feeling a bit lonely at home alone with no-one to attend to her needs and desires, so if you don't mind... ;)

Pain's thankfully not too much of an issue at the moment what worries me though are possible future complications from the twisted foot and currently-disabled toe..

Ps. To top things up an old chap lying on the bed oposite me died last night :(

I'm clearly not paying attention. I've only just spotted this thread.

I hope you're getting better, and they manage to straighten out the foot. I can't help thinking there are two options.

a) Straighten out the broken leg

b) Break the other one and put it at a matching angle, then learn to walk like a penguin!!

I'd volunteer to come and visit..... Kate. But it sounds like there are plenty of volunteers already. :D

Get well soon,

Keith.

Aw Martin, sorry to hear you have been having complications. If it is any consolation, my little toe went numb after an evening of wearing tight rental shoes and it stayed numb! I was really worried but after about 1-2 months the feeling slowly came back and now it is fine again.

I think Martin said that visitors are allowed up until 8pm. If you're heading up there on the bike then there's a small area signed "cycles" outside the main entrance where you can park.

Popped in and saw Martin this afternoon, I somehow managed to miss Mark, as I parked up beside his KTM, but he'd gone by the time I got up to Martin's ward. Presumably my route in wasn't the same as his route out...

Martin seems in good spirits considering that the NHS appear to have put his leg back together slightly ****ed:rolleyes:

hello everyone :)
2 weeks and 2 surgeries later it seems that I'm finaly ready to leave the hospital - Hooray! If everything goes to plan I should be heading home some time tomorrow.
Thanks to everyone who posted their wishes, Pm'ed and called me in the last 2 weeks. Even bigger thanks to those who were so kind to pop in and show their lovely faces in the Kingston's Chamber of Torture a.k.a Kingston Hospital ;)
It looks like I'm going to be out of action for some time to come so if any of you have some spare time and fancy popping over to ours for a cuppa, please Pm me and I'll let you know my address (should you not know it already).
Thanks
