That is the question?, i am leaning towards ps3 as you can go online and has blueray player, i'm guessing both of these would be best played on a high def tele, if so would have to stop mrs watching the soaps all the time. your thoughts please-

I would say PS3 m8.
what do you want to do with it their both good at different thing's ps3 is a great entertainment station with some quality title's but not as many or the xbox is where you get the arguably best online experience and ton's of releases each year having got both i prefer the ps3 as it's quieter and film's look and sound better on it and the graphic's are getting very good see uncharted 2 for that.

general opinion seems to be that xbox is best purely for games, but with the added functionality you get from ps3 well it just gives you more things you can do with it than just play games, so if ones other half is on the computer you or her even him if that way inclined could use it to go online if you just wanted to check out some thing on t interweb, i believe it is not as good as using a computer, but does the job.
do you mean normal dvd's play better on a ps3 or the blueray ones? obviously bluray should be better, never seen one.

ps3 is a great console, i had it mainly because its free online play and you get a bonus Blueray player, the only thing that puts me off the xbox is horror stories of them going faulty.
everytime i use the ps3 it just gets better and better, i'm now into VidZone which is free online music videos :) i love the online play of Call Of Duty too even tho i am shi# at it and when i go online certain org'rs kick my ar@e :)

yeah i've found normal dvd's definitely look better on the ps3 and sound better the xbox can get a bit loud for movie's too oh and don't count too much on the ps3 browser it work's but it's not that quick usefull though if you just want too quickly look something up.
PS3...especially as Gran Turismo 5 is just around the corner!
I had an Xbox 360 but found it to be noisey and didn't like the fact that you needed to buy extras to get online and to watch HD movies (although this is now redundent).
On the other hand my PS3 came straight out of the box and I haven't needed to buy anything other than a HDMI cable for a tenner. The PS3 is more of an entertainment system which also has the ability to play decent games. The internet browser is very handy, and a good feature is the ability to wirelessly download files from you're PC to the PS3 hardrive, Vuze etc. I couldn't figure this out with the xbox.
I don't actually believe the PS3 has been stretched to it's limits with teh quality of games yet as there hasn't really been a big headline game developed purely for the PS3, most of them have been ports from other consoles or PC.

Got both and I'm not a fan of the PS3 tbh, if I want to watch a film I'll use the PS3 but that's purely because its got blueray for gaming the 360 wins hands down, the online is a million times better than PSN. I would say if you just want to play games on it then get the 360, if your bothered about the blueray then go ahead and waste the money on a PS3. My brother only has a PS3 but he's shoving it downstairs and getting a 360 at Christmas and as well as him doing it one of my friends got a PS3 last Christmas and then bought an xbox a week or so ago and the PS3 has went downstairs in his house. Aslong as you get a newer one instead of a pre owned one you shouoldnt have any problem with it screwing up. I say go for the 360 but its your money mate.

To bp, hi mate will no doupt end up with both at some point as general opinion is if purely for games xbox is better, but as i have never played on one i am not going to know the differance, what you have never had you don't miss, yes i know that saying is carp but in this case would appear to be true.

is that except, extra controller, the battery charger for the controller, i'm assuming you get the charger for one controller in the box?, but i have seen double chargers for sale on amazon about a tenner. God knows what else you can buy, whatever system you have. oh yeah tv tuner thingy for taping tv films etc, i know you don't need this to play on it but it just makes you able to use it more to it's potential.

it comes with one controller, and to charge it you just plug the USB lead in, no special charger required. Oh and another + for the PS3 is the controllers last ages between charges, my experience of XBOX controllers is that they dont last long at all between charges.
PS3 has BBC iplayer built in, which is handy if its in a bedroom or you dont have sky/laptop or anything.
if you have a PSP you can connect to your PS3 online from anywhere to access saved media

Xbox has sky built in ;) I use heavy duty batteries in my 360 controller and they've lasted an age the plug and play kits arent exactly good though they seem to start off good then get progressively crap over time. They do feel alot better than the PS3 controllers though they seem to sit there rather than want to be held

As a user/onwer of both consoles if you are going to be playing online then Xbox360 .. the Ps3 network is a bag of $hite. ..... the whole online experience with the xbox is far better.
Both consoles are verry simlar in GFX but the PS3 does have more future potential.
with blue-ray games holding 25 GB SL- 50GB DL where as xbox only has 8.5gb to play with .
But you cant get halo or gears or of war or Forza on the ps3 and there are more offical xbox360 games to come ...
all in all if i had to pick one i would pick the XBOX360 . Interface/Gamer scores/Frenids lists/ Achivments / XBL / Gears of war and halo ... TheXbox is better imo but the ps3 is good value .
Also the xbox can be flashed to play backups .
PS3 in unhackable atm
PS the xbox supports 5.1 DD and DTS Also. as some one said above HD auido on the ps3...

Yeah but xbox are banning people from the online bit if they have a chipped console.
Think I'm after a PS3 if I can justify the cost as I don't really have time to use it lol (and naturally the big lcd tv and sound system I'm gonna have to buy for it). What sort of price can you get them for at the mo? And how much are games?

Not all of them, I think it was only the early 60gb ones.
As for game exclusivity (is that a word?), there are some games unique to both consoles. Gears of war is the only Xbox game I wish was on PS3, other than that I'm not fussed.

It's a completely personal thing, forget all the stories about the xbox RROding, thoseare the old xboxes, the new ones are fine and just for the PS3 fans, your console also is getting quite a high failure rate with the yellow light of death. Xbox is becoming more and more entertainment based as well as game based with things like the sky player.
But in the end it boils down to games and online, the xbox has the better online play no doubt about it but yes you do have to pay but you can geta year off ebay for about £25, xbox has a wider range of titles and IMHO better games.
The playstation does have the blueray player making it slightly more attractive as you can watch films on it but at the end of the day, it's a gaming console, you should be playing games, they do have online but no where near to the level of xbox.
So the best way to decide is;
If you like single player and sports games, buy a PS3
If you like online and FPS's then buy an xbox

yeah, almost all games are available on both. Halo is not, but the latest one is the worst, so thats no loss. COD series is on both consoles.
Just think, there was 6 years between the PS2 and PS3 being released, if you own a console for that length of time and game online then you're looking at over £150 of online subscription to XBOX live.
I've gamed on both consoles and don't find that there is any significant difference between them. The only real difference is the spec and price, if you want higher spec, PS3, if you want cheap buy XBOX. Everything else people can argue each way forever.

If your mobile phone contract is near renewal you can get PS3/Xbox/Wii instead of a fancy phone. Thats what i did, sony ericson 510 or something (decent enough), and a PS3, for around £30 a month.

Owning both I would say PS3. Purely as all the killer apps for the Xbox have been and gone really. The PS3 is just coming into it's stride an has oodles more oomph than the old box. The xbox is now over 4 years old. In the console world it is getting towards the end of it's life cycle (the average is 5 years but PS2 way out lived that). The only killer app left for Xbox would be Reach, which is another title in the Halo universe. I have to say though, Killzone 2 on ps3 is not beaten by anything on any platform for visuals and visceral feeling. One of the finest shooters there is.
The good point about the box is that it's cheap and has oodles of games now, it is a tad unreliable though. My ps3 never broke once, I've had 6 boxes now!!

I bought a PS3 instead over an Xbox
Main points for the PS3 was the Blue Ray Drive and the ability to play Hi Def movies out of the box. XBox you had to buy an add on HD player. Now HD is defunct and Blue Ray is standard. Also PS3 is WiFi compatible out of the box, Xbox you had to spend another 60 sheets just to make it wireless. PS3 has the ability to swap internal Hard Drives for bigger capacity making it a better media and entertainment system. Am a bit of a tight ass so i didn't want to pay 40 a year just to be able to play games online. Yeah I agree Xbox Live is better than PSN but PSN is getting a bit better.

6/10 (yet to play online with 360) but when the original resistance fall of man came out on ps3 I played that a bit online and it was a larf. I guess different games would have different networks then. I bet call of duty (new one) is booming right now.
Tazdaz - cheers for the link, gonna see how long sainsbos will be out of stock. Might look at amazon(£250, console plus mediocre game) or play.com(£220 console only), john lewis are doing the consoles at £230
(slim 120gb consoles)
