Hi all,

I have just purchased a sexy SV and pending it being restricted (yes, I'm tight and a bit sissy so I went restricted licence) I will soon be on the roads - yay!

I have been riding since March and only recently managed to pass the over hyped new mod 1 and 2 tests and have built up the courage to get my first big bike.

When it was delivered, I hopped on started it up and promptly filled my pants. After riding my trusty YBR for 7 months my new SV is vastly different. So big and heavy (I'm a short weakling girl btw) and its going to take some getting used to!

Anybody been in a similar situation and can offer any tips? Hopefully it will not take me long to get comfortable on the SV, as I was the same with the YBR. Don't laugh but the first time I rode a 125 I thought, wow its heavy!

I will be taking it easy until it all clicks into place, so if you see a red SV in Surrey doing 30mph and wobbling around a bit gives us a wave and please be nice - I'm still learning :D

(I tried to attach a picture of my bike - but I don't know what I'm doing and if its going to work)

Hello and welcome :) I love your user name btw, thats ace!

As for the SV being a big heavy beast, well there are planty of girls on this forum who have been where you are and i'm sure they'll be along soon to offer words of wisdom, from lowering the bike a touch, to getting big soled boots and everything in between.

Also a fair few around and about Surrey sides so i'm sure you'll get to know a few of them in time. And as for it being restricted, trust me....its not far removed from the full on SV like that unless you want to test its top end that is.

Other than that i'd say its a good idea to say hi in your regional section, perhaps Selkent and when the weather gets better and we arrange a few more rideouts get on a few. Nothing like a good rideout with a mixed group to make you feel more comfortable on your bike.

Enjoy the forum, its a great place to hang out and filled with great peeps. Just avoid me cos i'm a total perv and a horrible person.

Oh btw, the pic worked and nice bike :)

Hello and welcome, don't worry about the bike being bigger and heavier than your 125, you'll soon get used to it.

Hum on rereading that post I don't think I made myself clear enough. When I am on the bike I am fine - I can shift the weight from side to side without fear of dropping it. But reversing is a bit of an issue. My bf nearly wet himself watching me try and reverse up the very slight uphill curve to our driveway.

Is there a technique to reversing a bigger bike, or is it just pure strength? Whilst sitting on the bike that is - standing next to it was fine, but I cba to get off and reverse and then get on. Months of riding my lightweight YBR has made me lazy!

I just get off and do it. Much easier! And, I try and park in places where I won't have to reverse up an incline!

Dear Miss Thidiot,

What is the significance on "the100" in front of your surname?

Welcome, btw

Hi and welcome ......

All the same for me .... after 18 months (and 6,000 miles) on a GN125 it felt nuts ....

3-4 months later it feels easier to ride than the 125 ...

I'm tall and i find it easier to reverse the bike whilst sat on it. I hate having to move it about when i'm not on it.
Now we know you got a b/f th obvious advice is to play all girly and get him to do it for you ;)

Hello and welcome congrats on passing your test the restricted licence isnt the easy option its the more sensible one in my opinion. lol
The sv is the best bike to learn to ride on now you have passed your test, you will find it heavy compared to a ybr but it is actually very very light, i dare to go out on my own now and i wouldnt of done that before with any of the other bikes i have had incase i dropped them.
Anyway have fun and ride safe

Hmm Nick 69 do you work in Guildford? Maybe somewhere near the George Abbott pub in Guildford by any chance..

There is a blue SV with a white stripe down the middle I see nearly every day and have been admiring for a while now... is that yours? If that is yours I'm sooo jealous.

I remember on my first few months of riding my YBR I was so chuffed that I actually passed my CBT and was communiting rain or shine. One day after leaving work I was so happy to be walking over to my bike and contemplating my ride home on a beautiful day. I walk up to my (in my eyes awesome bike) and whats this...? Someone parked an R1 next to my YBR. I almost cried :smt088 Talk about rain on my parade lol it made by bike look like a childs toy.

If it's any consolation, I'm a well fed bloke who has just bought a VFR800 after riding an SV for the summer and I'm finding it pretty heavy to reverse. even with both feet on the ground.

So, if you're looking for revenge maybe it's time to get the BF to go for a test ride on something a bit bigger and see how he gets on.

Keith.
