Woke up this morning to find my SV on its side :smt088. wind was so bad the cover pulled the bike over!! Luckily it fell onto my Girlfriends car (er, I mean unlucky), wing mirror took impact and snapped off, then hit the floor so not much side damage (phew).

Put the cover on but have the bottom sitting around the level of the footpegs so there's room for the wind to get through. Use bungee cords or some rope to tie the cover down so it can't billow out and problem solved.

Why take the risk?----its only rain and for extreme wind any cover acts like a sail due to the increased surface area no matter how it is fitted. Unless my bike was in a very wind protected area I would not use a cover in such extreme conditions. --omo

I use a tie strap and wrap it around the bike/cover , after having the same thing happen to me on New years eve 2007. It's not happened since.

Yep- had that before. It's gutting, isn't it?
My bike is on the folks' drive- had a really bad night sleep anyway, but kept looking out to check it was still upright! Fortunately it was and is- it's bloody windy in Dorset right now! (nice watching the trees dance in it though)
It happened to our Daytona 1200 too, and that weighs around 60 kilos more than an SV :(
could be worse...

i know this sucks if it happened to anyone...but couldn't help laughing when I saw this (mainly cos the rest are upright, so the douche with the cover screwed over some of the other bikes at the front, lool)!
Gonna think twice before parking up next to a covered bike though.

Mine's gone over twice now, but luckily never any damage. Now I use a bungee cord from the sidestand right over the rider seat and back onto the sidestand again, makes it nice and tight and stays upright.

never had a problem with bikes covered in high winds, and its bloody windy living on the top of a hill. The bike parked in the back at the moment has been sat in all weathers and all strengths of wind and hasn't budged an inch. Mainly because the cover is tied down properly and its been parked with the conifers as a windbreaker.

Keep my bike up against the wall. If the wind blows it off the sidestand...it flops against the wall on its crashbung
kept in gear aswell so it dosnt roooooollll anywhere

Shocking photo. Wonder if they beat up the guy with the cover!?!? Think I'll be buying a bungie cord and parking it VERY close to my Mrs car so it don't budge at all. Hopefully it won't make anymore holes in her car! :-(

Ah ..... bad luck fella !!! Just before you plan storing the bike too !!!
Hope the car is ok .....
I've got the cover on mine ..... but its lent down hill, so leaning at quite some angle ..... I'd be amazed if the wind can lift it ....
On another note ... is the stand strong enough for it to lean the bike at quite an angle (due to slope of drive ??)

Well my bikes are fine tucked up in the garage but last night there was an almighty crash from outside, went to investigate and the trailer had blown down (we store it on end)!

Even if the garage wasn't filled with bikes the RX-8 wouldn't fit, besides cars live outside, garages are for bikes (I could also add TDM850, VFR750F project, two spare SV engines, one spare NC35 engine, two spare VFR750 engines, where would they live, in the kitchen?)

Years ago my garage used to be full with the GF's Ford Ka ....... whilst my Lotus Elise (and Audi TT before that) sat outside .............. except in the really bad weather I couldn't be bothered to move them around everyday (the Ka barely moved, whilst I used the Lotus everday)!!
