You want wigwams? We got wigwams. Linky (http://www.mainsfarmwigwams.com/)

They've also got showers, kitchen, pub nearby, playpark for Sally etc. They've even got tipis, which is what I thought a wigwam was before GM1 (you did too admit it).

Thornhill is 5 or 6 miles south of Callander, easily accessible off the M9 (no Kingston Bridge again see?) and a handy spot for the Duke's Pass.

A run might look like this - nother linky (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=A873&daddr=Lochearnhead+to:Crieff+to:Aberfeldy+to:Tyndr um+to:Ballachulish+to:A828+to:Inveraray+to:Aberfoy le+to:56.174514,-4.157639&geocode=FUgkWQMdHKHA_w%3BFeleXAMdnpS-_ymLhBTpmuSISDHNvqXUdhpnvg%3BFe0wXAMdEFzF_ymvCcBDT iaGSDFXiKisCzg-Jg%3BFZPyXwMdTAfF_ylbQC6VVaOISDF6Yo4aMIStyA%3BFSEg XQMddSW4_ymlLnMfth-JSDHQzN93HGgMCg%3BFU3CYAMdD6-x_ykTWC0nqyiJSDHkSafKJGERuQ%3BFbh4XQMdirmt_w%3BFbE CWgMdLZOy_ynNfirCsQyJSDFXylzbWOgFYg%3BFd0xWQMdIjS9 _ynvPLeQcPeISDENF_VVofMqVA%3B&hl=en&mra=mi&mrcr=7&mrsp=9&sz=13&via=6&sll=56.179101,-4.173431&sspn=0.071564,0.222645&ie=UTF8&ll=56.298253,-4.408264&spn=1.141473,3.562317&z=9) - giving the Crieff/Aberfeldy east section and the Glencoe/Arrochar west section with obvious optional loops at Kinlochleven, Wibbly Wobbly and Duke's Pass. Call it 260 miles, 6:20 on the road plus 3 options

If that's too much, and I think it is - ditto Bibio and Dyzio's routes, sorry lads - then cut straight back to Tyndrum on the A85 - yet another linky (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=A873&daddr=Lochearnhead+to:Crieff+to:Aberfeldy+to:Tyndr um+to:Ballachulish+to:56.455661,-5.387421+to:A873&geocode=FUgkWQMdHKHA_w%3BFeleXAMdnpS-_ymLhBTpmuSISDHNvqXUdhpnvg%3BFe0wXAMdEFzF_ymvCcBDT iaGSDFXiKisCzg-Jg%3BFZPyXwMdTAfF_ylbQC6VVaOISDF6Yo4aMIStyA%3BFSEg XQMddSW4_ymlLnMfth-JSDHQzN93HGgMCg%3BFU3CYAMdD6-x_ykTWC0nqyiJSDHkSafKJGERuQ%3B%3BFVIpWQMdkorA_w&hl=en&mra=dpe&mrcr=5&mrsp=6&sz=10&via=6&sll=56.427573,-4.63623&sspn=0.568801,1.781158&ie=UTF8&z=10). Call it 235 miles, 5:40 on the road plus 2 options.

Are there any questions? ;)

peterco and i were out and about again today so decided to visit Mains Farm Wigwams (above linky). the farm is a working farm which is right on the main road on a bend and feels a bit 'closed in' but otherwise a good site which is close to 2 pubs and B&B's. the nearest pub is just a short walk of about 1/4 mile or so then the next one is about 200 yds further up the road.

green arrow marks the spot.

we also visited another place but i will let peterco tell you about that as he took some photos of the place.

OK the news you have been waiting for

I've been to see June today and we have space at Beinglas. Yup site of the original GM!
Beinglas Farm Campsite
Inveranan
Loch Lomond
G83 7DX

map to follow

The tarriff - £7.00 per adult per night camping

Wigwams - £12.50pppn ( bedding £3.50pppn)

The chalets - standard rooms with B&B £35pppn or superior rooms with B&B £39.50 pppn

There are 5 chalet rooms available for the friday/sat night and no wigwams let as I could see

Each wigwam sleeps 4 ( or so the leaflet says) I'm sure thos who have been there before will keep me right

Facilities
Bar and Restaurant on site with menu served from noon -evening
June has advised that saturdays nights at the drovers are packed and more are coming to Beinglas instead
so saturday night she will look into arranging Karaoke for us and the rest of the clientele.
The toilet block was getting a lick of paint when we were there today
Hot showers with hot water guaranteed
Campsite shop
Campsite shelter - NB Pete and lissa -has been upgraded so not much room for the bike this year. still has the cooker seats and laundry facilities and looks as big as ever - didn't see the pool table though.
the fire pit and beer garden are still there as are the sheep ( but no midges today)

Camping does not need to be booked but the rooms and wigwams do so contact June directly - 01301 704281 or beinglas.campsite@virgin.net
or www.beinglascampsite.co.uk (http://www.beinglascampsite.co.uk)

For those who don't want to be with us - you can try the Drovers Inn www.thedroversinn.co.uk (http://www.thedroversinn.co.uk)

or here (http://www.sherpavan.com/accomm_booking/queryhotels.asp?id=487&location=Inverarnan) for alternatives close by (hough don't go by prices seem to be out of date slightly)

Now let the battling, bickering and whinging begin!

Top stuff, that's about 2 months sooner than I ever managed to announce accomodation :smt119 Plus they've resurfaced the ****ing horrible A82 up the side of the Loch. Win!

Only part of it so far but major roadworks start today for 26 weeks - but there's always roadworks on that road. And it doesn't seem to have degraded too much yet!

Ok folks, as you'll see the location has been set as Beinglas. I've deleted all the blether and nonsense so the relevant info should be easy to see. I've left the other accom options as we may want to consider for GMIV.

Now let the battling, bickering and whinging begin!

No battling, bickering or whinging required.

Thanks for booking it. Only minor snag was I had put together a nice route, with an overnight stop, to get to Kelso. No matter, just have to work out a new one via the west coast.

Looking forward to the weekend and meeting the SV Orgers.

All the best.

06-05-10, 04:27 PM
ok guys i need to get a tent for this (having left the last one at the AR09 much to peoples discust! Any tips on what its going to be like up there? (i know you cant predict the future but generally) is it soft ground or do you need a mat? is it likely to be blowing a gale (requires more than 6 quid on the tent this time then) etc etc.

haggis
06-05-10, 04:40 PM
It's as soft as an average campsite really, from memory. I never bother with mats unless we take the car and didn't suffer aches when we were at the same place two years ago.

Spending a bit more on a tent is wise tho. There's a horrible moment when you wake up in a soggy tent and realise £30 more would have saved you the hassle. Especially so as it's a two nighter. On day2, you dont wanna be crawling into a sleeping bag thats soaking wet from the night before.

If it's just something to stay in yourself, and easily pack onto the bike try finding a Gelert Fossa. I've had mine 6 years, it's done countless bike rallys in grim conditions and never let me down. It's really comapct, 5mins to set up on your own and dead light too, i think it was £35 back then. It's a one-man( + lid and gear... just) tent tho, so keep that in mind.

See ya there!

By the look of the pictures, those that stayed at the campsite on the GM1 and got moaned at by staff, missed a fantastic night at the pub! Let's just go and take over the pub!
