Just bought myself an ermax undertray and then realised i have know idea how to fit it? It cost me £20 and the colour matches my bike so i thought that i might as well :o

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320448509775&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320448509775&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT)

Can anyone give me any tips or advice on what parts need to be stripped off to fit this thing?

How do the flush mount indicators work? do they have bulbs in or do you use the bulbs that are already on your standard indicators?

Will i have a problem mounting my numberplate?

Can i buy a set of flush mount indicators for the front to match the ones that are on the ermax undertray?

thanks ian

Piece of pie, but you'll have to cut away triangles to each side of the original undertray to make way for the indicators. The indicators should have bulbs in them, but if they flash too fast, change the bulbs with ones matching the front indies. I love fitting these - where are you based? I'd be willing to help you out. I am based in Leeds so its probably a litte far but thanks for the offer. Not 100% sure what you mean when you say cut triangles out of the original undertray but it may all come apparent when i start work on it.

I thought the tray was just a straight swap and plug the indys into the new tray some how? Probably best waiting for the part to arrive and then asking a few more questions.

thanks for the tip

The indicators on the undertray will stick up and therefore, you'll need to make a cut in the original undertray to make space for them. The undertray can be put over the original undertray, but the indies will get in the way. Straight swapping them is a bigger job, so covering the original undertray is a better option. HTH, Chin

Look at the FAQ's section, lot's of picture's and step by step guide to taking off the rear end.

This is an excellent resource for SV mods.

The normal problem with these is that the flush indicators are covered up by a legal plate. My solution was to fit a very small plate but it became a real PITA come MOT time to change the plate and fit normal indicators, just to take it all off again a few hours later.

The other option is to mount a legal plate lower down, but then you need to fashion an extension bracket and the undertray doesn't really feel sturdy enough to take it.

You need to get to a more friendly MOT tester. My bike passed its MOT last week. They grumbled about the size of the plate, but passed it (there was a bigger one on there when we tested the bike...Officer), and said that the indies were just about far apart to pass. Passed the MOT with flying colours.

+1 about mounting a bracket - the undertray is way too flimsy to take one - it'll get ripped off with the wind. I thought of fabricating a bracket, but with my 'smaller' sized number plate, the indies are very visible from the back.

Incidentally, you can't entirely replace the stock undertray as it has all the mountings for the electronic mugubbery and battery etc.

A pet MOT tester is a useful thing - must try to get one.

Ian, if you want help fitting, I'm relatively local on weeknights.

OMG.

Okay, I can't repeat my previous rants on this product right now, but please, when you get this, put it straight back on Ebay and don't ruin your bike with it.

I've been through two of these, very poor and inferior products. The one you've bought is at least the newer design, and so won't eat into the brake lights; but at some point, it will snap if you mount your registration plate on it.

I have to agree with BillyC here, even though I didn't have the same disastrous experience - I'd recommend the hamicad tail tidy (which i've just replaced mine with) over this.

i had one of these on my sv and the amount of people that complained you couldent see the indicators.....i would consider keeping some not on the tray....

I actually took mine out the tray in the end and fillered the holes.

Everybody experiences something different with various add on products, but I had an Ermax on my K3 for two years with no problems until it was written off. Got another one on my current K4, no problems either. Indies are very visible on my bikes. I personally love the Ermax undertrays.

Right, its arrived today and it does not look that bad, I can now see that the numberplate covers the flushmount indicators. Will have to think about that one.

BUT how much is a hamicad undertray gonna cost and how huch will it cost me to get it sprayed to match the bike?

Not sure what to do now hamicad has been mentioned? Hamicad is not an undertray, it's a tail tidy. A metal bracket for attaching your numberplate and indies to - nothing too visible to spray. IMO, it ruins the look of the undertray having a tail tidy, as well as an undertray.

my fault, i mentioned it as an alternative, and I see from the pictures, he already has a tail tidy.

That "hamicad" undertray does look good, although it has no provision for a number plate whatsoever, as far as i can see.
