Set my heart on a flip front helmet .... given that most of my riding is slow commuting, its seems the obvious answer ....

Searched and searched - but so much written I can't see the wood for the trees ...

Was looking at the Caberg Justissimo .... but loads of negative reviews (from what I can gather) .... then came across this Nitro ...

http://www.jsaccessories.co.uk/dsShop.aspx?shopid=8

I remember reading good things about Nitro (on here) .... and its cheaper than I am prepared to spend .... but any good ??

i use both a nitro full face and the better acu flip front nitro, both of which are great, very very comfy and quiet, well built but not heavy, i honestly cant fault them, and in 26 years ive had loads of helmets inc arai and shoei's....nitro gets my vote hth'

go and try a few different ones on and get the one that fits right regardless of price. if you cant afford the one that fits right then stick to the one you have or get a new full face one that does fit right.

a helmet is only as good as it fits. a bad fitting Arai is worse than a good fitting 'cheepo'.

I have the Caberg Jutissimo. It is comfortable, all the internal padding is washable and the internal sun visor is good, but noise is an issue at speed. The slider button for the sun visor on both mine and my husbands snapped off this month after a year of use - though Motrax have put two new parts in the post within hours of receiving an email from me.

Woman at work has a Nitro flip-up, she's previously only worn Arai lids, but says she tried on a Nitro at bike show and really liked it.

FYI - I've taken advice from staff in J&S and would never do so again. Also, the lid we ordered from them for my wife, turned up in the wrong size.

I don't agree with using shops to try on stuff and then go and buy online cheaper elsewhere, it's not fair play to the retailer, but this is one of the ones I will no longer have a problem doing that - they don't deserve my money and haven't earned my custom.

I use Airoh helmets cheap and good fitting, I use a full face helmet in the cold winters and flip face in the summer. there comfortable light and are good in an accident i was told and tested my own a couple of times.
i find flip face are useful on group rides easier to speak with your mates and you dont have too take your lid off to talk to people when lost. :D

I've not used a flip-up lid, though I've often considered one. Something worth bearing in mind is that several of the early, and cheaper flip-up lids were tested, and certified safe, as an open face lid. There were a few that were tested as both open & full face but I'd not have a clue which ones were tested as both and which weren't. I'd say it's a question worth asking of any lid you consider buying.

^ yup the original of mine the roof boxer was only tested as a open lid where as the roof boxer v is tested as a full face lid

I have a BMW Evo flip front and it is the quietest and most comfortable helmet I have ever had
Flip front tend to be a bit more cumbersome than full face and I have tried quite a few over the years

I've got a Nitro F347-V flip front that I use when I'm doing long distances. I took it out of the box and put it on my head to do a long weekend's ride to Belgium and back - couldn't fault it. I've fitted a Cardo Rider Bluetooth headset to it and the lid is quiet enough for me to be able to have phone conversations at up to 95mph. Fit is subject to your head shape, so what might fit me perfectly might be as uncomfortable as having your head shoved up a Rhino's ringpiece. Try every helmet on before parting with your money to be sure it feels right, and remember that what may feel fairly snug today could be rattling around on your head like a 12 year old boy giving Katie Price a seeing to in 6 months time

ive got a caberg trip, fits really well noise can be a bit of an issue but i use earplugs anyway, had it about 18 months and its still good and still fits the same as it did when it was new, my brother crash tested his on the track when he high sided and didnt do any damage to his head,

the internal visor is fantastic on really hot days to you can get a bit of airflow round your head without the fly in the eye treatment.

I have one too, although only for my daily commute-being able to flip the front up is a godsend when popping into shops, filling up etc. Having said that, I don't use it for longer rides as it feels quite flimsy and as you say it is noisy. Whenever I am not wearing I really miss the sun visor and I don't understand why all helmets don't have these fitted.

Takachi TK-86N Flip Front Helmet which i bought from J&S for £79.99, i tried several different makes before deciding on the Takachi
as some other makes didnt seem to fit my head correctly, some i could feel that they either didnt touch the back of my head or the top,
padding would of worn in but the Takachi felt comfortable and fitted very well, i recommend this helmet and will buy another when the time comes

I had the trip, found it steamed up badly for me.
I an on my second Justissimo GT at the moment and apart from the noise at speed it is OK - great for me as I would have to remove my helmet to get into our car park otherwise!
I hear the Shubarth flip fronts are good, I'm thinking one of those or a Nolan in the summer

Hi, I now use a Schubert C2 which is excellent, comfortable/quiet although a little heavier than some, there are some good deals on C2s as it has been superceded. I also have a Takachi which sits low and resticts neck movement but good value for money also a cheap Lazer for "guest" use but has pinlock as standard.
As a spectacle four eyed wearer flip fronts are a pre-requisite unless wearing contact lenses.

Only because there are certain topics that people will avoid ...

Those topics are normally ones I'm interested in :D like topboxs and flip front helmets !!! :D

Speaking of which ... I need to post a picture of my top-box lighting system soon !! :D

Oh - thanks everyone ..... I'll leaning towards the Justissimo again now.....

When I went to get my current lid, Shoei Multitec, I actually went specifically for the Caberg Jutissimo, but the the Multitec was lighter and much more comfortable. At the time (August 2008) you could pick up a Multitec for £260 online, but the prices have shot up since.

But the multitec doesn't have a sun visor, which is the biggest bonus with flip fronts for me.

I had a Caberg J1 when they first came out and it was TERRIBLE bits fell off it and it was really heavy, since then I went full face my Arai gave me headaches, the OGK's I had were good but the AGV TiTech Evo I have now is brilliant.

I bought a Caberg Justissimo GT off a very nice fella on here

; )

And it's great, it's plays a great note at speed but nothing I can't deal with, infact I don't 'deal' with it, I just notice it every now and then. The only problem I have with it is that the anti-fog on the caberg is a bit poo so thinking of getting a fog city insert for it

My missus has and I had the Justissimo. no problems at all, and it had the Bluetooth fitment for the intercom.

I would like to query whether this is tested as an open or full face lid?

ECE 22.05 has 2 sub types -P (protective chin bar) and -NP (No protective chin bar).

I wouldn't be happy doing most of my riding in an open face lid, so I'd want to be certain that any flip-face lid I bought had been tested as a full face helmet.

Dunno, but the Jutissimo scores better than the multitec in the SHARP ratings. (http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/search/results/?sort=manufacturer&dir=asc&manufacturer=0&type=0&rating=0&size=0&price=0)

I've read the internal visor system mists up, but as I don't have a jutissimo, I can't confirm that.

Ignore the Sharp ratings, they are flawed.

Also, question the quality of the interior lining and how long it would last in day to day use. You pay more for the Shoei because it is made with top qiuality materials, not whatever comes at the right price.

Cabergs really are budget helmets with a big price tag for what they actually are. The only reason they are popular is because you see them everywhere, as the dealers who stock them have huge profit margins on them.

I wouldn't touch a Caberg with a bargepole
