I went to see Paranormal Activity last night and it was amazing. I've never been into scary movies, mostly because the ones I have seen were all rubbish. Until now!
For example: My Bloody Valentine, Drag Me To Hell, Saw, Hostel etc etc. All major budget Hollywood fails. (with the exception of Saw, which I did sorta enjoy...)
...
So...
What are the scariest movies out there? I'm not really interested in gore or anything like Saw. Heads being chopped off does little for me. I like suspense, and imagination tingling stuff. P*** your pants, run screaming in terror, sleep with the lights on sorta scary!!!
I'm thinking some of the older ones, like The Shining, The Exorcist etc? Wadda ya reckon?
Cheers,
Ben.

I agree Paranormal Activity is good but it's also a different type of filme to the others you have listed.
It's the only film I've seen at the cinema where tha majority of the audience have been screaming.

If you're looking for suspenseful horror films then The Shining is a classic.
Japanese horror films are pretty good IMO, they tend to build the creepy atmosphere rather than the modern Hollywood tat which goes for the blood/shock/make you jump factor.
Look for the original Japanese versions of The Grudge (the CCTV footage section - :smt105) and The Ring (the telly!), these were both subjected to American re-makes. Dark Water is another one.
That's all I can think of at the mo but there's loads more.

I'd agree with all that, particularly the Jap horror films - Ring and The Grudge gave me a really kind of unsettling feeling, very creepy.
A Tale Of Two Sisters (Korean film IIRC) is also a good one...
If you like shocks though, The Descent is a cracking movie (the first one, I haven't seen the sequel that's just come out yet), particularly if you are even remotely claustrophobic!
The scariest film I think I've EVER watched is 'Rec' - a Spanish horror film about a TV crew who are filming a fire station crew for the night and things take a VERY scary turn when they go to a callout!

the shining is good but not scary, i havent seen a film that scared me since i watched a zombie film when i was about 4-5 years old, cant remeber what it was called used to have yellow wrting on the cover, i remeber there being people hiding in the air vent or grates and a zombie fu*ks them up.
it genuinly annoys me that there are not really any good horrors nowdays.
i will have to see what this parnormal thing is like

The only film i can remember watching that scared me was the ring(?) After watching it being about 9 I then decided that the video shop shouldn't get that video back so i smashed it and that i didn't want killed in my sleep by that thing so i pushed the tv down the stairs. That resulted in me having no TV for a while and my parents weren't best pleased either.
