bunch of ****s

Bought a tv off them (showing in stock) about 3 weeks ago, I've rung them up to chase it up a few times now and they just say it's temporarily out of stock and they can't tell me when it will be in stock. They refuse to pass me onto a manager and won't give me contact details for anyone else in the company. They deny anyone at play.com can help me chase it up

I've just been on the phone to them they insisted I rang the manufacturer to chase it up, I told them how backward this suggestion was but ,still, they gave me the number. I just rang the manufacturer the manufacturer confirmed my thoughts, so just tried to ring play back and the number goes dead

Surely there's a way to get a number for someone in the uk?
Google has no answers neither does their site :smt011

for ****s sake just got through to them and managed to cancel the order. The guys just told me that it was on their system that the item was discontinued so I should have been told that on the 20th of november when I rang  I've spoke to them over 5 times between now and then and they one advisor even told me they'd 'definitely' be getting it in. Manager's have supposed to have been ringing me back but havn't what **** pot their customer services is.

Guy I just spoke to gave me an email address to contact regarding compensation.
Chances are 0 I know that, there's no contract between me and the seller until it's despatched...still gonna try though :smt011

As for compensation.... the least they can do if offer you the interest on your money while they held in for no good reason.
Or give you a good discount off a future order (if you're that brave)

Cheers capt. awesome will give em a ring see if I can speak to a jersion.

I'm massively ****ed off by the fact they new ever since my first call 3 days after the order that they couldn't get the item but repeatedly told me to wait. Been almost 3 weeks now.
Never using em again.

No as they never actually took the cash off me (thankfully) however this left me fooked for the month as I've been scared of them just randomly taking the money from my account and me getting stuck with overdraft fees.

Crap service is just rife in the UK i find. Sad thing is that most companies are just as crap as one another so no one feels they need to raise the bar on their customer service front as they have no one to compete against.
If they are all crap, they can all just stay crap basically. Its infuriating, i know how you feel Dave.

There's a fair few threads like this I've discovered.

like it says in the thread the email address I eventually got to work was customercare@play.com. The other's ive been given (inc the one above) just throw back 'unnattended mailbox' emails.

I`ve ordered shedloads of stuff from them and never had a problem. The one time I did was when I bought a PC and when it came it was German XP installed. They refunded the money no problem. Hope you get it sorted

Good for you mate, screaming via email is much better than screaming on the phone. On the phone they can hang up and accuse you of being rude to them. Via email, they can just read it and weep (or go "meh" as the case may be).

Anyone else know where I can get a decent 26" +, 1080p tv with 3 year manufacturer warranty? (for under £300)

try www.empire.co.uk (http://www.empire.co.uk)

I wouldn't ... alot of people lost out on lots of money when this company went bust .... i lost out on my 5 year warranty too what cost 160 quid. ... and even though they now back online ... my warranty isn't valid.

i think richer-sounds took them over .
but whos to say that they will continue richer=sounds AV business not home appliances.

also i think you'll get a 32 inch tv for that money and specs iirc

Dave, why not try emailing the Stuart Rowe the CEO?

That's what I'd do.

I'm guessing likely email addresses would be stuart.rowe@play.com or stuartrowe@play.com.

Deep breath, count to ten, construct it well and I'm pretty certain, if he doesn't sort your problem, at least you'll get a customer service line manager involved.

How much bad-press do they need before the biggest selling period of the year? ;)

Cheers boot, I'll keep trying different emails addresses srowe@ , rowes@ etc.etc.

I might just try and forward the email I sent to customer services with a cover note and mention watchdog etc. play have already been in the news for randomly sending 100s of emails of customers sensitive data to other customers

I've had plenty of things delayed with Play, i pretty much avoid them now.

Ebuyer however, are always quick, I've ordered late in the evening and taken delivery the following morning from them.

Play are cack.

I preordered a PC game with them and it was 'being picked' or whatever for nearly a week at which point I went to PC World, weathered the extra few pounds and bought a copy. Cancelled the order.

Bought my 360 from them, and ordered the wifi attachment at the same time. Huge box arrives, with just the 360 in it. There was enough space for about 30 wifi bits in the rest of this box but no, it was sent seperately. So here I am, brand new 360, can't get onto live, can't play Call of Duty 3 online.

Enraged, I buy a wifi attachment from Gamestation two days later. Wifi thing arrives from Play a few days later (can't remember if I had to collect it from my neighbour or from the post office depot) and I tear open the box to find... a PSP docking station. It's now the second week of December and I get to to queue in the post office for half an hour so I can post it back to them, at my expense.

And a month later, they still hadn't refunded me, I had to call them AGAIN to complain about that too! Never using Play again, EVER.

Finally got them to cave and admit they were wrong, £5 credited to my card (not a credit note either ) took quite a few a few long winded emails then finally last week I got home and read one saying the usual guff so just thought balls to it and sent back "look your still glazing over the crap your customer advisors were telling me, I was told I'd definitely receive the item despite them having access to info that said otherwise - let alone sending me on wild goose chases ringing manufacturers, is that normal practice? blah blah...business is a mess and I'll be sure to share my experience with others".

Still doubt I'll use them again, the response I got was full of 'isolated incident' type sayings but everyone I've spoken to has always had some issue or another with play, usually something on an order turning up late (if at all).

In all honesty in Plays defence, i have never had an issue with Play. i have been a customer of thiers for many years. i ordered a graphics card form them a while back and it didnt turn up late last year. I phoned them, they emailed me a form, i filled it in sent it back, refund thank you. As for their customer services being in India, i find that hard to believe (but possibly true) i have always got through to an english call centre, or their one based in Jesrsey. I also had an issue with a digital download once, and that was also resolved quick smart.

+1. I have probably made about 30 orders from Play, all completed satisfactorily, on time, and at a cheaper price than anywhere else.

Sounds like you were a bit unlucky with this one Dave. :(

Perhaps they were just having problems over the christmas period, the thing I didn't like about the experience most was my only options were speak to someone who didn't know there **** from their elbow in india or ...nothing. There's a lack of contact details on the site, and I never once got through to anyone who had a good grasp of the english language; who'd be able to take on board my concerns or atleast make empathetic noises at the right times and fob me off.

Found it doubley frustrating as I work for a small business where customer relationships are key, it was a bit of a reality check!

Fair Enough dave, it happens. i usually have the same trouble with Virgin Media (Which reminds me, i must call them).

I have just checked my account past history and i have made over 350 purchases from play. Just sounds like you hit them at the worng time of year, or they truly have gone up the spout (Always a possibility) as they have grown over the years and sell a lot more than DVD's and CD's which is all they used to sell.

Dave20046
15-01-10, 10:41 AM
350 purchases versus mine 1 good transaction, one bad puts it in perspective a bit.
May give them another chance afterall, have you used them recently without bother?

Viney
15-01-10, 10:45 AM
The last thing i bought was the graphics card at the end of last year, and to be honest, it was probably lost during the post strike. For lost items you do have to allow 21 days before you can claim though, which is fair enough. I have never rodered big stuff like TV's or games consoles, just mainly CD/dvd, or related media.

Bums. I've just looked at my order history too, I've had 61 orders with them, it surprised me it was that many! First one in 2004, most recent one was 18th September last year. As I said I've never had a problem so I think you've just been unlucky mate.

All the stuff I've ordered has been CD's, DVD's or books though, never ordered a big item.

Around 200 orders with play from me too, apart from a couple that went missing and were replaced/refunded without issue i've had no problems at all...

They don't seem any worse than anywhere else to me, I've heard alot of bad stuff about ebuyer as well but always had good service from them myself

I've used play a lot (100+) couple of non deliveries which were quickly rectified and in thr approach to xmas i ordered a game for my brother but it arrived as a PS3 instead of xbox, my mistake, they refunded the cost of the game and the postage to return it to them. couldn't ask for more.
