So i hold my full bike license and to be nice to my mother i kinda agreed to learn to drive and said i'd drive in winter and can stop having heart attacks everytime i ride in winter so my question asically is, on a full license do i have to give the money grabbing meanies another 50 quid for a provisional car license or can it just go on my current license?

what categories are valid on your license?

dizzyblonde

AFAIK, you have the provisional facility still valid on your bike license for car.
Well I can't drive and have had lessons since acquiring my full bike license five years ago. The instructor said it was perfectly fine.

should have no need to get another provisional, I got my car license then few months later got my bike license. Had to give the robbin tw@s another £50 for a duplicate theory test

the only catagory is bike as i dislike cars just don't want my mum to die early, haha, and don't really wanna give them another fifty.

yeah, i've read that i need to do another theory for maybe 1 or 2 car specific questions but the dvla sucks about the license, haha

Indeed it is:p
Even if the dizzy 'only has a bike license'blonde swears she'll never learn to drive again...fact is, that ghey, poofwagon of a freelander will eventually have to be driven by her

So Pegasus thinks :-)

No need to spend the money, you have provisional entitlement on the car mate. I did my bike test last year and the car test in october. You need to do the theory again though.

Im learnning to drive and i now hate cars, the fact that you dont have as much control as a bike.

Like when slowing down in a car i get in a mess, i dont like not have a foot on the accelorator at all times. Three pedals and two feet, it annoys me.

And whats with the steering wheel? Why so many turns, i forget i have to turn it back again and via all over the shop.

You are funny, beabert:D not having your foot on the gas at all times:smt043 and if you don't like 3 pedals, get an automatic!! Much easier:D

as far as i am led to believe, all provisional licences issued are for a car. you have to ask for provisional motorcycle entitlement to be added. even when you pass your motorcycle test you still have a provisional car licence. but when you pass your car test you have to ask for provisional motorcycle entitlement to be added,,, hhhhmmm see the trend.

No, when you get a licence you automatically have provisional entitlement for bikes.

Nemesis, look on your photocard part of your licence, it will have a list of letters on the back of it, they will tell you what your entitlements are. I would imagine, as it is normally the case, that you will have automatically have provisional for cars.

That's fine and I understand that. But he consistently mispells this word, in the same wrong way, not in a dyslexic way. Even people with dyselxia can learn to spell.

No offence intended and I hope none taken

I genuinlly lol'd here :smt043 But its quite true!

I wonder how I'll get along without being able to blip on the downshift  I'm going to start lessons next year I hope.

BTW, the catagories on my lisence are A, k, p (upper, lower, lower case). A is obviously my motorcycle entitlement...whats k and p?

When you've finished learning you'll learn that the accelerator isn't supposed to be on at all times. You should also have the car under control.

You're right about the steering wheel though my steering was a mess when I very first started learning, I was used to the bike turning as soon as you think, it let alone having to turn it back what feels a bizarre amount.

A*h I still blip when I downshift...but I have a funky gearbox!

Have you got one of those semi-auto boxes? I recall that some alfa's have an "auto blip" function

On a modern car you dont really need to.

However either learn to double de clutch or heel & toe then you'll be able to change down, blip the throttle and brake all at the same time.

Some cars its tricky especialy if you have small feet and the pedals are spaced widely apart, I've not found a car yet that I can't blip on the downchange in though...

This is exactly why I gave up learning to drive. Riding the bike first just made everything in the car super annoying to get on with. However, whats worse is the indicators and lights....oh and I'm so heavy handed the instructor told me off for nearly pulling the gear stick out of the floor:smt107 AND the fact that a car really will not fit down that gap!

So glad the poofwagon is an auto....but then can you trust a learner not to barge everything out of the road in one of those...oh I already do that on my bike....grannies and children really aren't safe!

You do get used to it. 'Getting through that gap' was another problem of mine. I constantly got 'Car mode!', 'Not on a bike now', 'Why are we filtering???' shouted at me :smt011

I hate using the car to be honest, though very handy.

Heel and toe / double de-clutch is a must, I also enjoy left foot braking, which i find easier than H & T, and make the passengers twitch lol

Im glad its not just me who find cars plain annoying. Im also the type who likes to teach themselves. I taught myself to ride with a book, youtube and a 125 i bought. For a car i have to have someone yapping on at me, its not how i learn, it just gets me stressed, hence the trip along the pavement on the last expedition called a lesson.

Another thing is this low revs gear changing crap, passenger telling me to take it easy, I AM!!! Im only at 3.5k of 8k, use the engine god damn it.

Yea i figured this, that on modern cars there isnt much use. I reason that it is either because the clutches are brilliantly forgiving and have huge clutch plates, therefore can dissipate their heat from the slipping induced by the driver letting the clutch engage slowly, or they have some sort of back-torque limiter built in.

My dad can heel-and-toe, and does it in his mk II gti sometimes. He also occasionally double-de-clutches (or whatever its called) as force of habit which he picked up driving land rovers when he worked for caffyns many many moons ago. I'll certainly be learning how to heel and toe, not sure about some of the other techniques assiciated normaly with use in older vehicles

haha i keep moaning at my mum about this her car goes to 11000rpm i think, its a 231bhp rx8 and she tries to over take in like 5th at 3000rpm im like wtf you would get round a lot quicker if you were in 4th even 3rd and give the bloody thing some and let the engine rev out a bit once in a while, then all i get from her is it uses more fuel doing that ..... drives me mad

Because it makes an uncomfortable, uncontrolled (feeling anyway) drive.
There's nothing big or clever about going fast in a car, especially if you've covered your car in glue and driven at halford's chav section at full pelt first.
