As my wife is from Salford the following is quite appropriate
A woman giving evidence against her husband at Salford yesterday on a charge of assault, was admonished by the Stipendiary.
Mr Makinson said "This is the way with you women. You chatter, chatter, chatter until you irritate. You get the man mad, then you get struck and come here. Try to keep your mouth shut and you will get on better.
Who said the bench was out of touch with reality. That man should still be serving.

Good Salford lass eh? Used to go drinking in the Racecourse years ago?
You'd get punched in Salford for using word like "admonished" and "Stipendiary"
I used to live in Salford when I was a student. I lived in a flat over an offie, the address was 112 Oldfield Road. The owners would close up at about 9pm in the evening, and about 20 mins later the phone would ring - prospective burglars seeing if there was anyone at home:rolleyes:

Oldfield road Ed. My father in law lived in the Salvation army Hostel (Old seamans mission) on Oldfield road, hopeless alcoholic so in reality best place for him.
So you would have visited the Jollies, Hobsons Choice, etc. All dodgy and still with the 1905 attitude of above. I know it was a long time ago and you are a very old man so were you there when they filmed the opening sequence of "A taste of honey" with the bus turning into Oldfield road by the war memorial;)
Thank goodness times have changed now...
Executive jailed for campaign of abuse
Thursday, September 24, 2009, 09:28
A £130,000-a-year executive who carried out a "campaign of psychological and physical violence" on his partner by verbally abusing and attacking her at their 15th century Essex home has been jailed for nine months.
Judge Charles Gratwicke told Simon Lambert as he put him behind bars that he had a "dark, arrogant side".
Lambert was last month found guilty by jury of five offences of assault causing actual bodily harm. The judge warned that anyone who treats women like that can expect to go to prison.
– someone behind closed doors who's prepared to verbally and physically abuse his partner and dominate her."
