best cure for Insommnia is sleep.

Give a PM to Rictus01 as I think he suffers too.

Things that are good for putting you to sleep;

1. Sex
2. Bananas
3. Yoghurt

Use them on their own or combine in any order you wish! :)

Alcohol is bad for insomnia- it might make you sleep in the short term but you'll wake up knackered cos your body won't rest properly. If anything, have a week (or longer) off alcohol and I'm sure you'll find yourself sleeping better.

As a life long sufferer Codein works but leaves you with a dry mouth all day the next day. Of course, make sure the're the ones without cafein in them.

No coffee after 5 pm
Melantonin works for some but not others. Works for me.
I got no results at all from Calms, Nitol etc.

Exercise works the best followed by a hot bath 1 hour before bed and make sure *nothing* wakes you up.

But the biggest cause? Stress!

Get rid of the stress, (easier said than done) add exercise and a hot bath and you've got the best three.

If my sleep pattern gets messed up a couple of hours of endurance type exercise each day works well.

And my favourite way of messing it up - drinking coffee and playing FPS games after about 10pm. Both things to be avoided if you're having trouble sleeping.

Just my thoughts,

Keith

routine is the key. teach your body and mind to go to bed at a reasonable time and eventually it will. stay off stimulants such as coffee, Bananas, tea, cigarettes, chocolate etc.etc a good 2 hours before going to bed. another thing that you may not realise working/playing/relaxing/socialising in the same room as you sleep, this stops the brain differentiating between 'play' and 'sleep', rule number 1 DO NOT HAVE THE COMPUTER/TV/GAMES CONSOLE IN THE SAME ROOM YOU SLEEP. if you have to have these things in the same room try and partition them from the rest of the room like putting up a curtain.

saying that true insomnia is a condition that needs medical help.

another thing. don't snooze after meals or at any other time during your 'waken' day. if you feel tired then have an early night, yes you can actually do this it doesn't hurt. if you are yawning a lot then you are tired.

Insomnia is crap. I have been suffering since March. Nothing much has worked except for copious amounts of prescription sleeping tablets or co-codamol that I got for my shoudler.

You got something bothering you?

This is another one of those "I've got..." things that drives me nuts.
I've got flu = a cold
I've got a migrain = a headache
I've got dyslexia = Just poor spelling
I've got Insomina = My sleep is disrupted.

Not an attack on you nemesis or even this forum just people in general, it really winds me up that people seem to want to lay claim to conditions which can cause serious problems for true sufferers, it destracts from those that can really do with the medical attention.

/END RANT,

Someones already covered it nemesis but if your not sleeping well follow these guide lines:
Make your bed room is a room where you sleep, nothing else dont even get dressed in there.
Make sure there are no electrical devices in there other than a clock (which you face away from the bed or cover over).
Make the bedroom as dark as humanly possible (maybe invest in some black out blinds).
Dont eat anything after 8, Dont drink anything other than water after 8. (assuming your getting into bed around half 10).
Keep a glass of water next to your bed so you dont need to leave the bed if you wake up with dry mouth.
Before going to bed, have a routine. mine for example is: Let the dog out, check the front door is locked, have a couple of mouths of water, go brush teeth, let dog in, check doors are locked, turn off all lights, go bathroom an get undressed, take a p155, go to bedroom, get in bed go to sleep.
From time of head hitting pillow, Im asleep in less than 5minutes every night no fail.

What might also prove to be a massive help is going on a 14 day detox. No take aways only freshly cooked food and also nothing to drink other than water. This will mess your bowells up for a few days if you do it properly but if you stick to it it will work 100%, Im living proof. If you want to know more/diet suggestions for during the detox PM me, Im sure I still have the downloaded material which I used and if not I can defo email you one of the diet plans which I stuck to.

I know what you mean, "good cures for insommnia" is going to get more attention (and you more assitance) than "good cures for having a couple of nights recently where I've not had a decent sleep, its really bugging me so do any of you have any ideas what may help?"
Just doesnt roll off the tounge as easily lol.

Seriously though the 2nd part of my message is spot on, again I'm living proof. Before doing what I've written above I'd had hypno-therapy I'd had sleep trance tapes. I refused to take pills cos tbh wel its not natural sleep. I didnt want my problem hiding from view I wanted it curing. The diet and routine really do matter its as simple as that.

I tried to stay away from the pills but I tried all else whilst waiting to see a specialist, still waiting, and I got myself so fatigued I was falling asleep whilst mid sentence. Was on the verge of passing out most days so I kindof had to opt for the pills. Only take a two week course and have only done it twice in the 9 months suffering.

Oh no you didnt use that excuse did you? lol unless your an on call doc working 24hour shifts you've got no excuse for not having time to cook a meal.
There is nothing much quicker than a simple stir fry or random meat in pasta sause. They take 10mins to make that might be 8minutes longer than it takes to pop summa in a microwave but you've got a motorbike lol what ever your in a rush to get to, 8minutes can be made up en-route ;)

get your self a copy of any of these:

I'm willing to place a bet that you spend a bit of time on your Xbox? I found that a great contributor to no sleep.

I suffered with almost no sleep for two months. Tried alot out. What worked best was doing lots of DIY/bike cleaning/flat cleaning then taking a couple of herbal sleeping pills and saying to my self in bed "Don't fall to sleep - Don't fall to sleep - zzzzzzzzzzzz"

I work with people who have insomnia as part of my role. Now, how long have you really felt you havent been able to sleep? One night doesnt count!

And how exactly do you feel you cant sleep? Are you having problems getting to sleep, staying asleep, waking up too early, waking up throughout the night?

Once I have a more detailed understanding I'll be able to give you a few tips

I see. You probably know this already but unfortunately that doesnt fall into the diagnosis of insomnia.

However, has something happened over the last few weeks that you feel could have triggered this off?

Now these will sound blindingly obvious but it is amazing how some people don't actually do it and expect a more complicated answer. Key things I would say to you right now are:
1) DONT go to bed if you're not tired. It doesnt matter if it is 3am and you need to be up at 7am. If you're not tired just don't go to bed and try and sleep.
2) If you feel tired and go to bed and havent fallen asleep within 15 minutes, get out of bed and go and do something else for a bit then try again. The reasoning behind this is if you lie in bed and cant sleep, you will end up getting more and more agitated with the resulting consequence being that you will associate your bed with rubbish sleep. Best to avoid getting into that pattern if you can.

3) No tea/coffee at least 4 hours before bed time.
4) Only use your bed for sex and sleep. Nothing else
5) Try and get into a routine - go to sleep and wake up at the same time all the time. Even on the weekend!

Obviously if you do shift work this can be a bit of an issue as your body has to constantly adjust and shift to a new sleep/waking pattern.

PM if you'd rather take this to private chat and/or I can give you my email

Clearly you've developmed the ability to see in to the future while you've not been sleeping.

1) See, my missus does that. Some times I've gotten up for work in the morning (6am) and she still hasn't come to bed, I go downstairs and she's still watching TV!
2) Carrying on from the above, she stays up until 3am or 4am sometimes and then comes to bed, is supposed to be up at 9am but struggles out of bed and drags herself through the day with panda eyes, then comes home and sits on the bed and keels over.

I go to bed at a certain time if I know I'm in early and generally I drop off reasonably quickly (within half an hour) but what infuriates me is when I then wake up anything from 30 minutes to 30 seconds before my alarm goes off :smt073

lol, I recon I'm the only person who loves that.
Abi leaves at 6.45 and wakes me as she leaves for a kiss goodbye, then my alarm goes off at 7, then gets a snooze until 7.15 and another until half past. If I tried to get up and out I'd be a zombie but by breaking up that last 45mins of sleep, when it comes to 7.30 Im totally fine (most the time). ;)

Sometimes I keep waking up after what seems like an eternity of very deep sleep, only to find that maybe five minutes have passed. It's great, because by the time I do actually have to get up I feel like I've been asleep for a week.

I have a bit of an annoying thing where i cant drop off to sleep for noises keeping me away, normally little annoying noises. So i wear ear plugs, then in the night I take them out...by this time I'm already in sleeping mode so i fall straight back to sleep, no problems!

Maybe this affects you a little bit aswell?

try some things like new pillows or whatever, the change might be refreshing enough to enable you to relax a bit more
