Do not get me started on that .... why do all markets and supermarkets here have to have smelly fish stands in the middle of the aisles??!! :nemo:
Yup, they certainly have many recipies for the stinking delights, I think though Xmas they cook "bacalhoau com natas" which is just a pt way of saying codfish with cream :(
Either way it is no turkey with the trimmings :smt009

Annas gonna hate me now but i like the dried codfish thingy, we have it in our culture for our new years celebrations.
And octopus and all other seafood is so yum! OK i understand how anna feels having grown up with her own tradition of turkey n stuff but when i lived abroad we'd go to the chinese on xmas day and then the beach afterwards. Much better than stuffing your face with more food that you'd normally eat in a week and then passing out in front of he telly....only to wake up and eat some more. And repeat for the next 3 or 4 days too.
I had xmas with some american friends years ago and cos they do the turkey thing for thanksgiving they had a huge ham instead. Now that was nice mmmmm.
=P~
You know, I should have realised there was something wrong with you back when you said you wanted me to live with you

well you'll also need a long straw to put in it so you dont even have to stop to take a sip.
codfish :(
Ah..... the religous significance is lost on you?
"The piece of cod which passeth all understanding....."
As usual, I'm doing the cooking, so roast turkey with cranberry stuffing, roasties, sprouts (no pressies for the kids if they don't eat at least one ), carrots, peas, honey-glazed roast parsnips, bread sauce, etc.
Also roasting a ham joint for eating/nibbling at and will make a turkey & ham pie for lunch on the following Sunday.
Have also bought a jar of tikka massala sauce for the obligatory turkey curry on Boxing Day.
Merry Christmas one and all :-D
Pete and I aren't particularly turkey fans, and with just the two of us it seems a bit pointless.
We're having roast beef with yorkie puds, sprouts, carrots, parsnips, potatoes roasted in goose fat and a nice hot horseradish sauce. Probably won't bother with a pud, as we have lots of mince pies and snacky, chocolatey things to graze on later!

It will be the usual Turkey etc, spiced with conversation which just beggers belief.
At last year's dinner, in the middle of a discussion on the credit crunch mummy dear decided to join in with, "why are the Irish Govt putting money in people's airing cupboards?" (Long Story)
Xmas Day food starts at midnight with our traditional picnic of smoked salmon, Wensleydale cheese, bread and white wine in front of a roaring fire. Breakfast is Bri's mega fry up. Lunch starts with spud bashing, and the traditional Bacardi and cokes (long story). Tea is nibbles. The day finishes with Xmas cake, the cheese board with biscuits mmmmmm Stilton and Port.
Probably a Ginster's pasty

God only kbnows what I'll be having. land in Beijing at noon on christmas day so it'll either be something chinese and hopefully identifiable or, far worse, a bland international hotel-style chrristmas dinner (bleurgh).
but I'l do a big proper christmas dinner for the three of us before we go our separate ways for the holidays.
whatever the hired help puts in front of me....
likely chicken something-or-other from M&S, I'm not that keen on turkeys. We are making a Christmas pud though, it's much nicer than shop bought.
Really depends on the weather, if I can get out its normal xmas fair at a friends :) The contingency is leg of lamb

Not decided on the starter yet, possibly asparagus with foamy hollandaise sauce. Then main course whole fillet of beef, wrapped in mushroom pate and puff pastry. Mushroom and red wine sauce. Roast potatoes with polenta cripsy bits cooked in good fat. Roasted veg (sweet carrot, baby parsnip, red onion, sweet potato etc. baked in olive oil with crushed garlic, thyme, sage and bay leaves). For my sis a pizza, she won't eat anything else. For my nephew who is 7, sausages wrapped in bacon, toast, waffles, fried egg, baked beans and ketchup because I said he could have whatever he liked. For the other nephew a jar of baby food. Then baked Alaska for pudding, and a selection of cheeses for anyone who doesn't want pudding or still has room. Bucks fizz, a nice New Zealand white or a big spicey Austrlian red, port, whiskey etc. and truffles.
Good job I like cooking and have a dishwasher.
whatever the hired help puts in front of me....
My households waiters and butlers are away this christmas as i decided to treat the four of them to a Carribean holiday.
So i'll be eating a lovely turkey courtesy of the boss and his wife from the A La Carte restaurant i work at. Waited on by the boss isn't bad, as we do all the hard work during the shift. :D

Unfortunately it will be the In laws and I will have to wear something reasonably smart, as my MIL is a Mrs Bucket, although the food will be good
I just don't like having to ponce about and be on my best behaviour on Christmas Day.
Last couple of years we were at home, just Mrs & kids & it was ok, except for me using every item in the saucepan cupboard cooking Christmas dinner:rolleyes:

I'm sure they'll go down a treat with Mr VT!
Where can I get myself a pair?! :)
I'll be having chicken on Christmas day- we don't do turkey in my family.
I did just get a pin-badge from a mate with a nipple on it. I may wear it to work tomorrow...!
That chicken will be accompanied by loads of roast tatties, gravy peas, carrots and stuffing.
I will also be suitably stuffed.

Well if the girls had their way on Saturday when I had to shop for my Soho Xmas Party fancy dress, I would have ended up wearing a santa skirt, hat and Ann Summers 'jingle bell' pasties!!
You can get a pair from most places or ask Speedplay's Mrs to teach you how to make some ;)
Oh please wear the nipple to work tomorrow and we want pics lol...
Im having turkey at Mr VT's Mum and Dads with the family, I finish work at 7am on Christmas Day and therefore get out of having to cook :smt041
Roast beef, yorkie puds, roast spuds, onion gravy, some sort of veg and im cooking it this year!!

Ryvitas and cheese...........BAH HUMBUG!
Some low cholesterol life saving dish probably!
Eating in this year as usually we eat out and let someone else do the cooking but really can't afford it.
I have got smoked salmon and prawns or garlic mushrooms for starters then Roast Turkey with all the trimmings, stuffing balls, pigs in blankets, honey glazed parsnips, cauliflower cheese, etc
To finish a nice cheesecake, not a fan of heavy christmas pud. The afternoon will be spent drinking and eating chocolates until sick or fall asleep.
