Stupid act by the copper placing himself in such danger. I am sure there was no need to try to block traffic like that

What an idiot! Look at the way the HGV has to change lane, difficult to tell, but he's probably full loaded and no way he can stop in the time expected of him by the copper. If the traffic needed to be stopped for an incident just out of shot then the traffic would already be queuing, and it'll have taken him a number of minutes to respond, so he must have had at least a mile after that junction to bring them all to a stop. Why didn't he just wait for one his colleagues who were 30 seconds behind him, then join the motorway and stop the traffic with a rolling road block? The ambulance driver is perfectly capable of joining the motorway as normal, then moving over to the hard shoulder to undertake the traffic and the rolling block, and get on his way to the incident, with an escort from the third bike cop if necessary, second bike cop could catch up once the rolling block has come to a stop.

The Dutch police obviously don't get the same level of training our coppers do.

I thought it was going to be the lorry that hit the copper as as Ralph said there was no way he'd get stopped in time. When the lorry moved it only gave the cars behind moments to respond and move out of the way.
But god knows where that car was looking as it didn't even seem to react until metres before the impact!!!
But again why did he feel the need to stop traffic on a dual carriageway which was by all rights empty?

At his map or flicking through his CD wallet probably, but a copper should know that vehicles can cover hundreds of yards on a straight motorway, without the driver ever looking at the road.

Hope copper is OK but to be a bike cop he must have undergone lots of traffic training and how to direct traffic and I bet that method was not shown to him. Stupid act, as already been said, in front of a fully laden (prob) HGV ??????

Just hope he was OK and not too badly hurt.

Dirty trick, putting punctuation in it.

Try phonetic morse, it makes it easier to translate. And its quicker off the tongue, e.g. dah-di-di-dit di-dah-dit di-dit di-dah dah-dit/ di-dah-dah di-dah di-di-dit /dit di-dah-dit dit. After 30 years of rust, not sure if its correct.

Why did he need to stop the traffic they could have just pulled on to the road?

We don't use bikes on fast roads for that reason. You can't be seen!

you'd hope the police biking standards of anywhere in the world would teach their officers that something like that is a real bad idea, and completely unnecessary.

He was to gain to very little by risking so much.

WTF, what an eejit!! I'm not a traffic officer and I wouldn't have done that! DOH! Bet he regrets it now though!
