Anyone coming onto this site would assume that we've a load of bigots on board.

I, for one, would like to state that I like the majority of scots/welsh - just like I lke the majority of the english.

I don't like bigotry - whether it be nation vs nation or the north/south "divide". At school it was pointed out that I am British, not just English or cumbrian etc. Does it really matter where in the UK you're born. If so why aren't you from "this street" or "that street" if you're splitting hairs.

And I *really* can't stand the, " I support 2 teams my team & the team that's playing against England" mentality. Whenever the other local teams play their international games I always want them to win (unless they're playing England, then I hope they lose 27-nil!).

When DC was an F! driver I always cheered him on. Though Andy Murray can go screw himself as he has repeatedly said that he is not British, but Scottish only. Though, I did support Greg Radzesiski(sic) more than I supported Henman as Greg chose to play for Britain as opposed to just happening to be born here.

Being born somewhere doesn't make you better than anyone else, but your attitude may make you less of a decent person.

Just my 2-pence worth.

So it's not just me then.

But then I'm not going to get all touchy-feely like Dirk - I hate everyone. Except English people obviously, all of whom are, utterly without exception, good, decent, honest, hardworking, trustworthy, balanced, sensible people.

May I remind you who the present member for Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath is?

But I suspect you already know - and I suspect that you're further aware that he's not exactly very English at all.

You may also know what other minor task he fills his time with.

aw bless. Doesn't it just leave you with a warm feeling -- or has my bag come adrift again?

I've lived in Wales, and Ireland. And i visit Scotland pretty much every month. And the winners are ---drum roll. Without doubt the Scots. I get up there when ever I can, and I've never had a bad experience up there.

I have 1 Irish grandparent, 1 Welsh grandparent and 2 English grandparents. I was born in England, I'm English and proud of it. Equally I'm proud, lucky, to have Scottish and Welsh neighbours.

I like the Irish, Scottish, Welsh and English. The nice ones at least. Every nation has its bad eggs that fester with hate for no logical reason.

what utter bollox. round here we are still fighting over 500 year old bragging rights (read to the left). But usually declare a truce if a far hated opponent is in the vicinity. Nobody likes southerners after all.

After that I have to say. I am not English, British or any PC european crap. I am Lancastrian and proud of it. Hetitage is something to be proud of not hidden away.

As long as you look back far enough into your heritage. I kinda get the feeling no-one looks back to ancient britain for their roots and I wonder why.

I kind of think there is no such thing as a true Britain as the romans, vikings and every other wandering penis has polluted the gene pool. So we have to look through rose tinted specs.

I know my family history was pretty well documented from the 17th century onwards as we were tied upto my great grand father to certain land and industry, Additionally we are reputed to be linked to a local royalist estate from the civil war.

What my forefathers did during the war of the roses is unknown. but I just hope there was a big red rose on their banner.

Question

Why is the Lancashire rose red and the yorkshire rose white?

Because they are too tight to but any colour to fill it in.

As someone who only knows the UK as a visitor or an observer....

What stands out the most about the UK and makes it such a unique place in the world, is that not only each country, but even down to each individual county, the people still have pride in, and have well preserved their own local heritages, while at the same time, joining together all these many diverse cultures and people to be as one great nation.

That being said...
I like nice people from anywhere.
Prejudice is everywhere...but the wise rise above it.
There are good people all over the world...
Unfortunately there are enough bad ones out there to give the whole lot of us a bad name right along with them.

Hey, I am not a racist or a bigot. I hate all of you equally... :)

Seriously though, I got called a racist (a word that is seriously abused) by a white woman on Christmas day because I refused to shake the hand of a black fella who approached me in the street. I just knew that what came next was humbug for cigarettes or money and wasn't entertaining any of it by giving him or the rest of his mob a way in.

I have spent a good amount of time in the UK and have friends here in Oz that have their roots in that part of the world. It seems to me that the Welsh, Scots and particularly the Irish have a much brighter outlook than the English.

The Yorkshire Rose is white because some tight fisted Manky Lanky sucked all the life blood out of it.

Thank God for the Pennines!
