I copied Whitehouse today and added the mesh to the gaps in the Fairing! I'll be honest for what looks a simple job it took me and hour or so. But looks fantastic!!!! :-P

has anybody ever done anything with the HUGE hole in the fairing behind the front wheel in front of the downpipe? I know you can't block it off completely because of the two rads, but how about some mesh or something?

Wouldn't think so. If you make it to rigid something will snap. The fairing will flex and move.

maybe you can mesh it but dont fix it to the fairings so have brackets coming out from the say the radiator mounts, then the fairings can flex as they like

That does look great, would look even better on a later bike with a black frame. Would love to do it myself but wouldn't know where to start.

Roughly how much did it cost?

Dave20046

Think you're looking around £500 for a late gsxr front end but could be wrong.

L3nny
06-02-10, 01:18 PM
That's quite a lot really, about 25% of the value of the bike. Does it make the handling much better and how exactly.

Sorry but I am quite new to biking and never ridden a full on sports bike with proper suspension.

same :)

I don't actually know, I'm going to be putting a late 90s gsxr front end on my bike in the next few weeks (or months ). It ain't for looks (or I'd have gone for a pretty gold or black one) but I have a few quibbles with the front end as it is (nothing major) but the main reason I'm doing it is I've seen a sv with a proper gixxer f/e on go for the brakes - and it stopped in a heartbeat. Quite fancy that sorta braking power and I can't justify the cost of a sportsbike until I'm like 21.

If you're not having any problems with the bike as it is and you're not massively vain then I'd probably leave it.

phil24_7
07-02-10, 09:05 AM
In the big scheme of things, the gixer front end isn't worth the spends. You'd be better off buying a proper sports bike. I however did it as I managed to pick up a bargain front end complete. It is the single best mod I have done to the bike, I put on a rear gixer shock to complement it and had it all set up for me and my weight and now I don't struggle to keep up with sports bikes through the twisties.

Whitehouse
07-02-10, 12:49 PM
i have to agree with phil24_7 on this, for the cost of the front end plus the price of the bike its not really worth it, you could just go an get a 600. It all depends on what u want though, i know im keeping mine for a while till i build up my skill so i didnt mind spending a bit of money on it :D
Plus im a tart and wanted it to look cool  any excuse i guess!!

No, I haven't got a picture anymore.

I just cut one piece of mesh and hotglue gunned it into place.

Theres no problems with it flexing and breaking I also did the infills in the sides of the fairings too.

Here's a pic of the side and I'll have a look through my old hard drives for a pic of the front.

Well I have just finished playing around with the fairings and fitted them. My original plan was to get some fairing lowers in need of attention, and then play about with them but instead I got some new lowers that came with the fitting kit, as these can be expensive on their own. Only trouble was they weren't silver but dark grey. I didn't really want to mess with them in the condition they were in, so, along with a suggestion from LK-SV decided to fit them, and use some graphics to tie the colour scheme in with the rest of the bike.
Here are the results of a fivers worth of sticky back plastic and an hour or two of fiddling about, I think it works, the grey matches up with the carbon mudguard and hugger ok I reckon.

No he ain't! Cat D was rebuilt in Feb last year (i.e. I replaced the crash bungs, plastics, gear lever, bar ends and clutch lever - that's all that was damaged).

I am stripping the front end ready for my Gixer upgrade.
