Ok, normally i just cook chicken in a pan for stuff like pasta and wraps but i trying my first roast tonight, how do you cook a chicken breast in the oven where it still tastes nice.

Chicken's much better in the oven than fried in a pan IMO.

Just put the breasts in a oven tray, add a bit of olive oil, season and then cover in foil (stops it drying out) Put on 180 degrees for about 40 minutes. Easy :)

If you like bacon and have any in the house then wrap the breasts in bacon first and if you feeling really chef like then put some cheese under the bacon too. Yum!

If you`re only cooking a chicken breast I`d say 40 mins is a bit too long?

Yeah maybe a bit too long actually. I cooked a full 1kg pack of breasts yesterday for about 45 mins and that was plenty. Maybe take a look at them after 30 minutes and see how they're doing.

Calm down Jamie Oliver, one step at a time, lol.

I was just sick of microwave meals and takeaways, cheers for the reduced time will start checking at 25 mins and see what it looks like as our oven likes to burn stuff to a crisp normally.

If your oven cooks high the outside might look done but just to be sure stick a knife into the thick part of the breast and make sure the juices run clear. Hope it turns out nice

pmsl.

My mum buys them ready made like that from M&S and they are well nice. And so easy. How hard is it to wrap some bacon round a chicken breast, eh?

A chicken breast should take 20 mins at 200 degrees C if the oven has a fan.

If you want to save cash, do a whole chicken. 1h45 at 190 degress C.

If you want to stuff it (really yummy), I have a recipe that is really simple if you'd like it.

all the bacon is frozen though so it won't wrap very well

no, you need bacon that wont snap when you try and wrap it. Just remember it for next time.

And as Mr A says a whole chicken is a lot tastier and better value for money than breasts.

Mmmm breasts.

20mins per lb at 200-220c then another 20 mins. this is for a complete chicken. meat should be cooked right threw, test by inserting 2 knife points together into thickets part of breast then spread knifes apart. if cooked properly the flesh will look white, if not cooked the flesh will look slightly pink and fleshy. tip. if you wrap breasts in bacon you will usually always get a 'pink' tinge to the flesh so its a bit harder to judge.

Tescos.....3 chickens for £10....Butcher them yourself, you'd be surprised at the size of the norks you can get off them ;)

I'm loving the idea of cheese and bacon wrapped around the chicken though...

Hmmm slice the fillet almost all the way through, stuff with goats cheese and herbs, wrap with parma ham.......

'Scuse me, I'm just off to the kitchen! :thumleft:

+1 to the wrapped chicken breast thing, they're lovely and really easy to do!

A good one is to wrap them in parma ham brushed with maple syrup, sprinkle some sesame seeds on top, add a quick drizzle of olive oil, season and cook in the oven at 200 degrees C for c. 25-30 mins. Mmmmm, getting hungry just thinking about it...

Top stuff that, gives a great sugar rush! It's also good on a full English brekkie (though not so much on beans)

Its so good on plain brown toast, no butter. Cut a few slashes in the bread to let it soak into it more. Oh man!
*rushes off to put on some toast*
