Need to replace the rears on my wife's car and timing means we need to keep the budget pretty tight (also have 2x MOTs due, 2x Tax due, 2x Insurance due, plus an oil/filter change and a new tailpipe for my vehicle -all this after xmas :().
Anyhow I can get a very reasonable price on good quality tires by mail order. I'm wondering if anyone might have a recommendation on where to then get them cheaply mounted/balanced in the Corby/Kettering or Northampton areas (or reasonable distance from)? I'd be bringing the wheels in off of the car to keep it a bit cheaper still.
cheers,
-Mike

PAF Tyres (http://www.bizwiki.co.uk/tyre-dealers/1492541/paf-tyres.htm) just off Leonards road or AA Tyres (http://www.yell.com/b/AA+Tyre+and+Exhausts-Tyres-Northampton-NN48HQ-900187386/index.html) on the Rothersthorpe industrial est (both Northampton).
AA also keep a lot of very good, part worn if things are really tight.
Oh, both do a discount if you like to carry cash ;)
When I was made redundant in jan last year, 5 new tyres turned up for my freelander on account ;)
£25 for 5 fitted and balanced at AA Tyres.

Good deals on tires or good deals on installing? I have a membersip -didn't really think the tire prices were amazing when I was in there a few weeks ago, but will maybe ring about the cost for installing.
My wife drives a K3 Civic coupe and the tires are 205/50-16. She has P6000s on it now -the fronts new when we bought the car last Jan, but the rears, while they still have plenty of tread, are showing cracks and have become very noisy. I've done some digging and found that Yokohama C Drives rate very favourably (quiet and decent in the wet) and have found them for £116/pair delivered.
My Tyres or Black Circles are some of the cheapest out there. Both mian order and offer fitting services.

I use blackcircles too, very good prices n fitting is always easy.
I need 3 Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3s for my impreza - cheapest by far was ValueTyres at £90 per wheel fitted - a fair bit cheaper this time than Blackcircles, Tyeshopper and Mytyres - all of which I have used in the past.
It seems to just depend on what size/type you are looking for, and what stock they can get hold of...

They're came to something like £120/tyre fitted unfortunately.
My Goodyear Eagle F1 GSDs are the same size as your wifes - 205/50/16, not sure on the load/speed rating though - mine are 87W - they were £91 each fully fitted including balancing, disposal etc.
Not great for wear, but awesome grip, in the wet & dry.
Might be worth trying www.valuetyres.com (http://www.valuetyres.com) - if you use the code CWU10 you get an extra 10% off (I forgot to use the code )
When I lived near Kettering, I used to go to Selecta Tyre.
Very good, friendly, and cheap. Give 'em a ring and see what they'll do it for:

Right guys, thanks for all the tips. I've ordered the tires now (allnewtyres.co.uk) so when they arrive I'll pop around the places suggested and see how it goes. Might try the cash-deal angle as I'll just be carrying the wheels in.
I used Event tyres last time they were the cheapest for what I wanted and then a man in his van turned and up and fitted them to the car on the drive for no extra cost. He even turned up at the time he said he would!
Will use them again.

****e in snow and generally cold conditions though; I have some on my MX5. Good job I don't need to get it out of the garage at this time of year. ;)

3 ??
Have to be very careful if not changing in pairs ... especially with 4wd .... I've had a couple of Audi Quattros recently (not the originals (TT and V6 A3), and Audi recommend you change them in pairs, and if possible you change all 4 at once as to not screw up the 4wd systems !!!!
Not changing in pairs can upset the balance too ....
OP - I appreciate that your on a budget ... but try not to skimp too much on tyres ...... see if you can source some Khumo's ..... as good as the premium brands, without the premium prices ;-)

Definitely did not (and would not) skimp on tires- especially as they're on my wife's car. I bought Yokohama C-Drives at the bargain price of £116/pair shipped.
