Either i'm going mad or I have just seen a little dog with shoes on

Anyone else seen this or should I check myself into a mental institute?

You can buy dog bootees, sad idea but it can be done. It would have to have originated from America, bringing there daft ideas over here. The only time a dog should wear a boot is if it needs to keep it clean after an injury.

They gave the search and rescue dogs at 9/11 shoes to protect there feet from shards of steel etc, think it might have started from thereabouts.

This dog had a little coat on and what looked like yellow socks/booties! It has been snowing here today! What next...dog ear muffs?!

It's sad. Dogs are designed to put up with cold without clothing, it's what dogs do.

As soon as you dress a dog in human type clothes it confuses the poor thing and it gets a complex that can lead to mental problems. I had seen an article about this online and pointed it out to my middle daughter, who at the time was dressing her dog up in chavvy Bench jackets and similar stuff. She soon stopped once she'd read the article.

+1

Ours loves the cold

It was -4 yesterday morning but when I got up she was asking to go out, after doing her business she lay down on the patio and had a little sleep before coming back in:smt101

One of my dogs near enough has alopecia, so when it is particularly cold he does wear a jacket and some boots.

Some dogs can develop irritation of the pads due to the grit and salt about at the moment, and their pads can crack. A client of ours swears by them for her dog but I have to say it's not something I'd put on my dogs.

we used to put socks on our dog when we took her out in the snow. The snow used to clump in the fur between her pads and freeze and made it uncomfortable for her to walk. meant we were able to stay and play in the snow for hours

I saw a german sheppard wearing shoes when I walked up Snowdon and didnt think very much of the idea at the time, although the dog didnt seem to care.

The thing is we have selective bred domestic dogs into many different breeds that do not appear in the wild, i can imagine some breeds may well feel the cold more compared to say a wolf?

yeah many breed's are nothing like what they started out as it's all this obsession with pedigree status wolves on the other hand are fantastic sad really.

Only dogs are daft enough to let their owners put them in silly outfits. Working in St John's Wood you see a lot of 'ladies who lunch' with tiny dogs in a variety of designer outfits.

Cats on the other hand aren't having any of it. Tried to put a collar on Cromarty once. Not something I plan to attempt again unless I already have the paramedics on standby.

When I lived in Canada a lot of people used to take their dogs over with them. In the winter at temps of -25 to -47 they used to put booties on their dogs to protect their paws when walking them.
