Has anyone on here successfully got .MKV's to stream to the Xbox360 via Windows media centre (Windows 7)
I can do it on the XBOX360 using TVERSITY
I can do it with the PS3 using PS3MS
But I want it working with the Windows Media centre because i like the interface and how you can see all your movies with covers all on one menu.
I can stream the MKVs to the Xbox360 With
Windows Media Centre (Windows 7) but its decoding them into worse quality than AVI's.
I know most people wont know, but hopefully there might be some one who does :p
I have posted on lots of Forums but I cant get a decent answer from anyone.
cheers ant.

Is there not a codec pack you can install on the 360 to make it work?
Try using XenonMKV to convert the file to WMP-friendly .mp4 as long as it's under 4GB.

can be bothered with converting the files i have about 800GB of MKV's just want to stream them.
I can use the PS3 just fine with full 5.1
and i can use TVERISTY on the xbox360 too but dont get 5.1.
the codecs are only installed on the PC not the xbox Microsoft dont support MKV's on the xbox just yet hopefully they will in the future . but it should be possible with the right setup as it works with TVeristy and kinda works with MCE but its decoding them .
But like i say i like the whole Media centre interface and just wish it would work lol ...

Nope not unless use VLC on the fly encode/stream, use yamb change the file container to MP4, it wont take ages like encoding does, also remember there is a file size limits on MP4s

as above mate,
It works with TVersity but no 5.1 still geting full 1920x1080 quality.
I can use my ps3 with full 5.1 and quality but i want the MCE to work#
and most of the MKVs are over 4 gb so it would mean splitting them too

yeah, xbox won't sort it out, they don't see mkv as an official file type

I use GOTSent (http://sentry23.googlepages.com/) to convert to a format the 360 seems pleased with.
Like beabert said, it just puts the same data into another file format so there shouldn't be any noticeable drop in quality.
